It was also around this period that a new class of droid was created by Baktoid Combat Automata, the Super Tactical Droid, and with it, Ardross. The droid had started off as a regular model with all of its flaws, intact but something was different, he was sentient. He could feel "emotions", he perceived his surroundings and what he was, and he could experience and learn from things.
The engineers had no idea what had happened during the construction process that could cause the droid to become sentient, they were hesitant to allow him to lead the Confederacy's forces against the Republic, but one man could see his potential as a "useful" asset to the CIS, and his name was Count Dooku. Dooku had some of the Confederacy's tacticians go over his strategies for simulated battles, and when they were found to be great successes, he allowed the droid to serve, but not in a high position.
For the final years of the Clone Wars, Ardross served as overseer of a Separatist listening post near the border between the Mid Rim and the Outer Rim in the Torolis system. He waited for months upon months for anything eventful, but he did not give up his duties. In 19 BBY, at the end of the Clone Wars, as Lord Vader made his mission to Mustafar, Ardross still served faithfully as one of the last official Separatist outposts before he shutdown a few hours later, entering an endless slumber.
Or so he thought.
