Val had been absently picking at his nails when he sensed Skice Variger Skice Variger wake up. As their eyes met, the particle shields abruptly dropped, and she immediately went for her lightsaber.

He got to his feet and ignited his lightsaber as she did the same. Purple and bronze light filled the hallway, but he didn't want to get into a fight if he could avoid it.

"Your friend already took off with what was left of the key," he said, stating a fact rather than mocking her situation. "With the ship as damaged as it is, we'd all probably be better off leaving before someone really gets hurt."

He had a hunch that she wouldn't care what he said, she was going to go after that map even if it killed her, but he gave her a guileless smile anyway, hoping that he wouldn't have to kill her to survive. It probably didn't look as innocent when he was holding a lightsaber, but hey - they were all Dark Siders. You get used to people waving their weapons around and making threats when your alignment is further south than north.

The signature snap-hiss of the famed weapon caught Lanik’s attention, his head snapping in the direction that it came from. At the very end of it Lanik could feel the force, while his senses had dulled since leaving the order, even he couldn’t ignore the signature of another user in such close proximity. The cobalt blade of plasma that the dark Jedi held confirmed the engineer’s thoughts on what was used to bore one of the holes into the freighter.

Belongings in his hands Lanik shifted from one foot to the other. Thankfully his right hand hidden from view, as beneath the belongings he leveled his blaster pistol. It would be a tragedy if he had to fire through what few clothes and belongings he had, but it would be one of the few ways to catch the dark warrior off guard.

“Would it really matter if I answered the question or not? I don’t think you’d be willing to let someone live who saw your face.” With that Lanik pulled the trigger. Crimson darts fired from the mouth of the pistol but not towards the one threatening Lanik. No, towards the console. He was still standing right outside the room and had a clear shot, not even a Jedi could cross a hall, block the blaster bolts and save the console from its imminent doom.

Each of the needles of energy struck the terminal ruining the controls and foiling any attempts of those trying to use it. Asset denial was the most important part of the situation. Someone who got control of the terminal could've used the blast doors to trap Lanik, reactivate the shields, and who knows what else if creative and vile enough. Chances the engineer was not taking. Spinning on his heel Lanik decided the next best move was to hightail it out of there and reach the cargo bay praying the other didn’t catch him. From there he’d be able to grab the designated package and flee the ship.
