A History Lesson

Jedi Knight Diana Moridena sat in the passenger seat of a small shuttle transport hurtling through hyperspace. She wearily watched the controls of the ship, not wanting to touch them lest her curse be applied to this vessel like it had been so many others. Eventually she stood from her chair, not wanting to test fate. Instead she turned around, moving towards the back of her shuttle where her apprentices were stashed away.

Their destination was a place close to Diana's heart, Kiffu. Her ancestral homeworld and the place where her family and tribe had lived for thousands of years. It was a planet that she loved, and where she had spent many weeks after leaving the Jedi Order.

She had gone there almost immediately after her departure from Coruscant. With the help of Jaxton she had managed to track down her parents, her tribe, and everyone else who she had any connection to. Unsurprisingly they had all welcomed her back, and since then she had frequently written them letters and sent them holo-messages updating them on her life. This included when she had received her apprentices, Avalore and Sarge. It had been a proud day for her and her parents had been equally proud.

Now with the permission of the Jedi Council Diana and her apprentice traveled to Kiffu to meet her tribe and parents. It would be a history lesson.

“Touchdown in 15 minutes.”

The droid pilot announced the arrival time of the shuttle and Diana smiled slightly. This was all rather exciting for her. Kiffu held much history and Diana was looking forward to teaching it all.

Avalore...did not really like traveling by starship. Not only due in part to the fact that she'd done very little traveling off Corellia before joining the Jedi, but mostly in part to the fact that being 6 months pregnant made her as stable as one could expect. Starsickness was a common ailment of the protrusively-pregnant and it took everything the young woman had to keep her lunch down.

"Shouldn't have had that second helping..." she muttered to herself, fist pressed at her lips, empty bucket waiting between her knees.

She'd brought along a holopad to peruse information about Kiffu, but that'd only lasted about two minutes after takeover before she'd gone cross-eyed.

Nope.

"Probably." Sarge murmurs, face buried in a datapad with Force knows what scrolling across it. Unlike most datapads, however, this one was basically a pane of glass with a thick border around it where the internals were kept. It was a prototype, really, but he vastly preferred it to the regular datapads.

Was a bit more like a tablet like this.

Frankly, he didn't understand how one could get... spacesick? There wasn't even a rocking motion in space. Probably just her pregnancy. He mentally shuddered at the thought. Pregnant Jedi... and he was an assassin. Just the cream of the crop, the two.

Diana smiled slightly at her apprentice as she walked into the back of the ship. Avalore had a problem with eating food, in that she ate all of it. The Jedi Master figured that she would have learned by now, but apparently pregnancy made ones brain go inert. She would have to remember never to get pregnant. Quickly Diana walked over to Avalore, sitting down in the seat next to her with a slight plop.

“How are you feeling?” She knew that flying wasn't easy on the girl, and as they got closer to Kiffu and into the atmosphere it would likely only get worse. With a smile she also looked at preacher, knowing that the man was probably more than a little uncomfortable hanging around a pregnant woman.

Thankfully once they were on Kiffu they wouldn't have to do much traveling. Diana's tribe was so ostracized and isolated that they rarely left their own section of the planet. The city they lived in was mostly self contained and sustained, needing no outside help to survive. It was one of the few tribes left on Kiffu that hadn't completely bowed to the Vos Clan.

Something that Diana was infinitely proud of.

Avalore didn't offer any sort of reply to the man she was sharing the passenger cabin with. Diana had told her his name before leaving, but for the life of her she couldn't remember. It had been something odd ... Creature was it? Frell, it was hard to think with the contents of your stomach knocking on the door of your throat.

She bit her tongue and watched, briefly, as Diana moved to sit next to her. Green-faced, she shook her head and refused to remove the fist that currently maintained control of her gag reflex.

If she didn't hold her mouth shut it was allllllll coming out.

Diana frowned slightly as she looked at her apprentice, then scooted away from her just in case she spewed bile all over the place. One could never be too safe after all and she didn't exactly have a change of clothes with her. She hardly wanted to meet her parents while she was covered in throw up.

“What about you preacher?” She smiled at her other apprentice. “I know you're more used to space travel.”

The Jedi Master eyed Avalore for a second, making sure that she was far away from the spray zone.

"I'm fine, boss." He mutters, fingers deftly moving over his datapad as he stared intently at the information that scrolled across it. Lifting his head for the barest of moments, he felt the faint shudder as they hit atmosphere and he merely shook his head at Avalore. Silly pregnant women.

Silly, silly, silly.

He noted the irony of how much he loved sex with his apparent disregard for this pregnant woman.

It didn't much stop him from shaking his head.

Nope, just kept working with that datapad.

BLEEEEEEEH.

They hit the atmosphere and Oley!

Avalore lost her entire lunch to that woeful bucket between her knees.

By the time they landed and made to disembark, she was feeling lighter, emptier, and a bit woozey. It took her a good few minutes just to walk down the ramp, but once her feet hit solid ground the Jedi seemed to feel better. Taking a moment to herself, hand braced against the side of their transport, Avalore blew her cheeks out.

This was going to be a long day and it began with vomit. Not a good sign.

She took a deep breath, glanced down at her belly, and shoved off to join the others.

Diana stepped off of the transport with a smile on her face, completely ignoring her poor apprentice who was currently throwing up a strange greenish sickly yellow colored liquid. Avalore would eventually be fine, it was perfectly normal to get sick every once in a while, or so Daella had informed Diana when she had inquired more about how this sort of thing worked. Daella had always been better with that sort of thing. Any who, this was all Avalore's fault anyway for having unprotected sex.

That was another thing Daella had taught her.

“Mom! Dad!” Diana suddenly called out as a group of people surrounded the transport. Each of them wore what could only be described as tribal clothing. Fur's and piece of other animals, bone necklaces and the like. Yet each of them seemed to have an air of the modern around them, even with their thick black facial tattoo's.

Like an excited little girl Diana jogged over to her parents, hugging them each and then turning towards her apprentices. “I'de like you to meet my apprentices. This is Avalore, and Preacher.”

The two made for an odd sight, but Diana was more than used to that.

Sarge was entirely unperturbed by the fact that vomit was everywhere; there'd been worse in the 'Pyre during drops anyway. Smirking to himself, he flicked black eyes from one parent to the next, noting the tribal garb in which they were swathed. Still, there was a confident square to their shoulders. When he heard his name, he simply dipped his head.

"Howdy.", he says, voice a grunt.

With a good deal of luck and perhaps even a bit of skill, Avalore had managed not to get the second-round of lunch on herself, containing it mostly to the bucket. The woman straightened her robes and attempted to do the same with her hair, but that sort of thing had never really worked for her. Windswept and wispy since the day she was born. She settled for pushing her bangs to the side of her face and moved to stand near Preacher because that seemed to be the proper place.

" 'lo," Avalore offered a meek sort of greeting with a half-hearted wave. Despite the very interesting appearance of the people around them, she really wasn't feeling it at the moment. Mostly she was feeling queasy. A smile was attempted, but it came across as an uncomfortable grimace, "Sorry - kid doesn't like to travel. Don' mind me."

That belly.

A nearby Kiffar woman smiled warmly, exchanging a glance with Diana's mother, and moved to approach, "I have something that will help. Come with me."

"Gracias," Ava uttered from beneath the hand at her mouth, and willingly followed the woman off to what she assumed was a healthy dose of Pepto.

Diana looked after her apprentice for a few seconds, staring at the girls back until she was out of earshot. Part of her of course was still concerned for her, if she was not well enough to travel then Diana probably should not have taken her here, she would have been better off waiting at the Temple back on Coruscant. Slowly the Jedi Master bit her lower lip, a nervous habit she had had since childhood.

Diana's mother seemed to notice this, and patted her on the shoulder. She may have been a Jedi Master, but she was still relatively young after all.

“She'll be fine.”

The matron was all smiles, and then waved for Preacher to join them. Diana perked up slightly at her other apprentice.

“You once asked me about the lightsabers I carried, or rather the tradition behind it and my people.” Diana remembered that day quite well, the day Preacher had been initiated into the Order. “If you would still like to hear, my Father is the chief. He can explain our traditions and culture far better than I ever could.”
