  • What is the Rimward Trade League?
    • OOC: The League is a long-simmering project that developed out of a combination of both my interest in nautical history and fiction, love of classic/retro sci-fi, and how much the sandbox environment of the Star Wars galaxy draws me in. I wanted a faction that did something different, deeply grounded in the history of the Chaos!Galaxy embraced the fact that many characters don't easily fit into the traditional Jedi vs Sith dichotomy.
    • IC: A supranational league of local governments who have signed the League Charter, delegating some authority to the League, formalizing commitments to specific shared legal and economic goals, and mutual military compatibility- administered by a council that functions as the executive head and the entire polity of League inhabitants vote on legislation as well as directly elect their council representatives.
  • What are the goals of the Rimward Trade League?
    • OOC: Create a community through a horizontal leadership style where writers are empowered to develop, create, and run their narrative arcs through collaboration with writers both in and out of the faction; to be character-driven and give every character a chance to be the hero of their own story.
    • IC: To create a stable, forward-thinking league of Outer Rim systems dedicated to mutual well-being and enhancing the quality of life of their inhabitants through growing the grassroots economy, developing interstellar infrastructure, and eliminating corruption.
  • What are the values of the Rimward Trade League?
    • OOC: Collaboration, cooperation, creativity; low-pressure community; quality over quantity; creating a diverse and welcoming community; individual empowerment; and exploration of the ordinary hero.
    • IC: Anti-Imperialism/New Order/anti-fascism, direct democracy & socialism; individual and labor rights, local rule, and individual autonomy
  • What are easy ways to be involved?
    • OOC: Hop into the faction forum, check out our About page, read through some of our threasd, give Resources a look, ask lots of questions! Big fan of writer engagement and leadership, so if you have story arcs, definitely reach out. And a lot depends on the star system you're interested in, especially if you like doing lots of worldbuilding- maybe a get a group of friends together to develop a specific system, or pick a place yourself.
    • IC: Head to League space, or talk to a League character anywhere in the galaxy and they can probably help you get involved; or apply for a letter of marque and reprisal.
  • FAQ
    • Is there a Legends/Canon basis for the League?:
Yes-ish, but mostly no. The closest name thing is the trade spine league, which was primarily smugglers, freelancers, and privateers. So there is a lot of influence there, but I think the other big influence is Separatist worlds without being ruled by the megacorps and Sith. So if the Confederacy had splintered between the worlds with legitimate grievances with Republic rule and those manipulated by Palpatine's machinations- what would life be like for them? If they had a smaller parliament led by the likes of Mina Bonteri or Kerch Kusi?
    • Are you a light-side faction or a dark-side faction?:
Neither! The League, IC, is a strictly secular state that does not endorse or condemn any religious beliefs. For the most part, the League leans Light-sided, but not by very much, with most of the Force users being a non-Jedi/non-Sith sect- Wardens of the Sky and Jensaarai are the two main Legends one, but we have numerous Chaos!Sects as well, including Circle of the Light Hand, Jedi Pilgrims, and Rimward Jedi Coalition (for the more traditional prequel style Jedi). All of them work together as the League of Light.
    • How on earth do your government and military work?:
      • Government:
The League government has an executive council whose members are directly elected by the inhabitants of each member system. They do most of the day-to-day administration of the League, overall strategy and goals, preparation of legislation, and foreign affairs. All inhabitants of the Leauge then vote on the legislation they craft. The Security Advisory Board and the Economic Advisory Board assist the Council, focusing on military/intelligence and economic growth, respectively. The Admiralty Courts oversee all legal matters outside a planet's atmosphere, while the Interstellar Courts address disputes between members and cross-jurisdictional crimes; evaluate legislation before the vote to ensure its legality and compliance with the League Charter.
      • Military:
Each member system of the League maintains its defense forces, supported by its own taxes and an annual subsidy from the League coffers. The Security Advisory Board oversees the Joint Strategic Command and Outer Rim Operations Network (ORION), the League's unified military and intelligence agencies. Every system seconds a certain percentage of its defense forces to the Joint Strategic Command for a specific period. At this point, they rotate in new troops. For large-scale joint operations, the Security Advisory Board recommends an overall commander (Commodore-General for naval actions, Captain-General for ground forces), and the Council either confirms or asks for other options. If necessary, JSC can call in from Defense Force reserves for truly massive operations. ORION is composed of all the local intelligence services of mystery governments with a special dedicated task force, ORION ACTUAL, operating at the League level and drawing on resources, assets, intel, and personnel from all networked members. ORION also supervises the privateers and works closely with the Underground.
    • What are groups I can join for an easy start?
      • Civilians & Irregulars:
        • Merchant Spacers & Free Traders: Whether you want to work for a local mercantile shipping company or captain a tramp freighter, if interstellar trade is your game, this is for you.
        • Outer Rim Development Corps: Love worldbuilding? Love codex subs and engineering and infrastructure? The ORDC is a nonprofit, nongovernment organization that does economic and infrastructure education, design, construction, and repair for any world in the Outer Rim that requests their help.
        • Privateers: Not everyone wants to be part of a formal military structure and would be terrible at it. However, that doesn't mean they're not excellent combatants, strategists, or leaders. The League's privateering program extends their reach and gives the more independent-minded a middle ground between operating independently and being part of a formal military.
        • The Underground: An old, old organization dating back to the One Sith and Galactic Republic wars, the Underground was formed by Jorus Merrill as a network of freedom fighters, scoundrels, smugglers, rouge Force users and more, to strike back at the One Sith through independent guerilla operations. That legacy has continued with Underground cells all across the Outer Rim.
      • League Officials:
        • League Council, Advisory Boards, and Courts: Politics, military strategy, and administration, legal disputes- the League has more than a dozen systems, all with their governments and laws that intersect and engage at the Council level. If you like creating a better future for the people of your community, this is probably a good place.
        • Rimward Ranger Service: The only permanent, standing paramilitary force under the direct command of the League Admiralty Courts, the Ranger Service handles search & rescue, deep space law enforcement, maintenance of hyperlanes and infrastructure, as well as investigations into cross-jurisdictional crime and rapid action defense. Think Coast Guard plus Starfleet and if that appeals to you- give it a look.
        • Joint Strategic Command: Overseen by the Security Advisory Board, the JSC comprises the defense forces units from the member systems, the security contractors on retainer to the League, and all volunteer militia units, be they governments in exile, local veterans unready to put down the blaster, or a new crop of volunteers who for some reason can't join the official defense forces. JSC and the Advisory Board create task forces and battle groups for specific operations, calling in reserves or hiring contractors to fill gaps in the roster. For anything military related, be it navy or army or marines, this is a good place to start.
        • ORION: Also overseen by the Security Advisory Board, ORION and ORION ACTUAL collect, organize, gather, and distribute intelligence to the Council, Boards, Courts, and system governments, as well as operating specific special paramilitary units for special intelligence operations. Spy games, counter-espionage, direct action, and naval intelligence fit under here.
      • Force Users:
        • League of Light: Jedi Pilgrims, Jensaarai, Disciples of Twilight, Wardens of the Sky, Circle of the Light Hand, Findsman- all the Force users who are not particularly traditionally minded Jedi usually end up here.
        • Rimward Jedi Coalition: If you love the prequel-style Jedi, the RJC is probably the place to be!
