SPECIAL FEATURES
- Projects corrosive chemicals
- Can infect victims with the Tarnaci Blight
- Liquefier: The Patriarch functions as a heavy-duty chemical thrower, projecting Blightspawn Atter over medium distances. This substance is highly corrosive, and very effective against most unshielded matter.
- Dirty Bomb: The Patriarch's secondary firing mode can allow it to harass enemy positions with aerosolized Atter bombs, allowing it a degree of longer-ranged indirect fire utility.
- Rupture: Atter does not distinguish between friendly and enemy targets. Caution should be taken to avoid friendly fire, and should the weapon be seriously damaged, its highly-pressurized, highly-lethal contents can explosively escape containment.
DESCRIPTION
It was inevitable that eventually, the Privateers would seek to weaponize the toxic bodily fluids of Blightspawn.
In the wake of the Battle of Thyferra, they soon found themselves with a tremendous surplus of said techno-mutants, and thus, of their blood.
At first glance, the Patriarch is surprisingly simple. It is a high-powered hydraulic sprayer used to project liquid matter over significant distances, and can either be carried by infantry or affixed to vehicles, who can often carry commensurately-larger Atter reservoirs. It features a variable-volume nozzle that can allow the user to either project a forceful stream or a wider-diffused aerosol spray to saturate large areas. The catch, of course, is that the weapon is intended to project Atter.
It comes as no surprise, then, that this is primarily a terror implement, intended to weaken enemy resolve. This it certainly may do, as it can threaten a horrifying death within a range of a few hundred meters.
Worse yet, these individuals are the lucky ones. Blightspawn Atter is, as the name might suggest, inherently infectious. Not all who are exposed can hope for something so banal as death.
In this regard, its tactical application is somewhat similar to that of a flamethrower. Liquid or aerosolized Atter cares nothing for cover and even less for concealment; the user need only point the weapon towards whatever they dislike and sweep it back and forth.
If the weapon's victims are lucky, the ravenous substance will find a vital organ quickly and end their suffering, but most are not so lucky. Most are thoroughly incapacitated, but may die over several minutes, digesting in their own muck.
It takes a particularly stout heart to remain in place when the promise of so grisly an end is near, and thus, the Patriarch excels at removing dug-in infantry, melting fortifications, and in general convincing the enemy to rethink their allegiances.
Aside from its stream and spray settings, the Patriarch packs one final, often fatally-surprising trick. The weapon may supercondense a quantity of Atter within a magnetic sheathe, and lob it at a high angle in the manner of a grenade or mortar.
While lacking in the range of true artillery, this can allow the weapon to serve as a light bombardment tool. Should these constrained atter blobs contact a solid surface, they will burst, scattering both liquid and vaporous Atter over a wide area. Most frequently, these detonations leave lingering, sizzling clouds of corrosive vapor.
Canny users can put this mode to work both offensively and defensively, using it to saturate far-off enemy positions with poison, or to cut off prospective assaults with lethal acid-gas clouds.
