OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: Something illicit worth smuggling - a drug slash paralysis toxin.
  • Permissions: N/A
  • Primary Source: N/A
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
  • Name: Zoronhed Bluedream
  • Manufacturer: Various bootleggers and criminals on Zonju V, particularly in Zoronhed.
  • Affiliation: Open market, use as you will.
  • Modularity: Could be cut with other recreational chemicals, with varying results. Often cut with cave sap (a similar derivative of cave cactus toxin) to add painkiller traits.
  • Production: Limited (high-quality), minor (street quality)
  • Material: Syrupy refined and altered Zonju cave cactus paralysis toxin.
TECHNICAL INFORMATION
  • Classification: Drug, paralysis poison
  • Method of Consumption: Orally or by injection
  • Average Life: Paralysis and semi-lucid dreaming state last up to three hours, depending on dosage and the user's tolerance for the substance.
  • Nutritional Value/Allergies/Side Effects/ Purpose: Bluedream is a powerful, shelf-stable paralysis agent that typically puts the user in a more or less lucid dream state. It is commonly used to paralyze an enemy or kidnap victim, or as a recreational drug. It has no nutritional value. Its side effects may include a mild to moderate allergic reaction (rash, stiffness around the throat, etc.). Extended use can increase the power of the allergic reaction. More than one habitual user has eventually died of anaphylaxis. The Zonju anesthetic known as cave sap or cactus juice is similar but not identical to bluedream, and does not work as well on bluedream users.
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Shelf-stable
  • Paralysis
  • Mental fog/dream state
STRENGTHS
  • Highly effective paralysis agent.
  • Less addictive than many spice variants.
WEAKNESSES
  • Habitual use leads to increasing allergic reactions, potentially culminating in death by anaphylactic shock.
DESCRIPTION
Like the anesthetic known as cave sap or cactus juice, bluedream is a derivative of the paralysis toxin in the projectile needles of the Zonju cave cactus. Zonju V has a long history with swoop gangs, and homebrew versions of bluedream have always been around, but the genuine article sprang up in the planet's big aurodium rush (circa 850-855ABY). Offworlders who struck it rich found bluedream affordable and available. Kidnap crews, meanwhile, found it a godsend for subduing said rich offworlders.

Bluedream's legality on Zonju V is sort of a gray area thanks to some vaguely worded laws, inconsistent enforcement regimes, and its close kinship to cave sap. In fact, plenty of street bluedream is at least half cave sap anyway, combining bluedream's mental effects with cave sap's painkiller traits. Offworld customs agents rarely know the difference, which leads to all sorts of complications and opportunities for any given smuggler. Many jurisdictions just throw up their hands and call it all a restricted substance - and thus worth smuggling.

Bluedream is a sticky blue syrup that tastes quite bitter, with an unpleasant aftertaste. Due to bluedream's bright colour, law enforcement tends to worry about its potential to attract, and be marketed toward, children and adolescents. The strong taste, however, doesn't go away even when bluedream is mixed with sugar or carbonated sugar water.
