HISTORY

In the dying days of the Clone Wars, a Dathomiri project called Nightblood worked on modifications and attempted enhancements of a selected blend of Nightsister and Nightbrother genes.

Project Nightblood produced a single viable embryo, a test prototype utilizing a Falleen genome, which was grown to maturity. As the only successful result, the baby was stored in stasis to preserve the research.

Later, when the Republic became the Empire, the project was moved off Dathomir for security, located in a deep storage facility on a planet known only to myths and legends; Peridea.

After the rise of the Empire, the facility was forgotten, and the route to Peridea lost. For centuries, the baby slept on, unaware of the time passing.

One day, the facility was found by the Great Mothers, and the baby was born. She was released from her silent moving captivity, and raised among their order, given the name Zaylin.

Zaylin's early life was a happy one. She lived and played among friends, brothers and sisters, and began to learn her people's culture. Like many other children, she was taken in by the community as a war orphan. They did not discriminate by gender or species, or much at all really. Everyone seemed to be accepted inside the clan structure.

To earn her keep, the young Falleen fought alongside her clan and other allies in many battles across Peridea, against scavengers, pirates, and worse things. She was honed into a future leader and a fine warrior by the expert training of the elders of the clan, the Night Mothers, many of whom were descended from the old home world Dathomir and followed its traditions.

The young Nightsister developed her own philosophies as she grew into the role of a full adult. Often she eschewed killing altogether unless absolutely necessary, attempting to set an example of patience and restraint to her people. Not all of the elders understood why she did this, but accepted it as her particular idiosyncracy and let it go. In time she was on the verge of being accepted onto the ruling council. She had earned the rank of Night Mother, but did not really fancy being among those who had raised her. Zaylin wanted to strike out on her own.

On Peridea she would always have a collection of experienced witches at her back. Safe and secure, she'd never lack for advice, support or help. It would be a very easy life. Zaylin did not want to spend her life that way. She had to move on. She would be a mother, but to her own family of sisters and brothers.

A small fleet of ships, traders mostly, made their way to Peridea, in search of trade. They found little to none, but Zaylin took the opportunity to return to the galaxy, booking passage with them in exchange for several valuable gemstones.

Upon her return to Dathomir, she became part of a new order of Night Sisters. The familiar bonds of the clan structure Zaylin had been raised within were welcome. A new home, a new family, a new chapter in her story, and that of her sisters and brothers. Zaylin bound her very own soul to the order of Night Sisters, linking her life forever more with those of her order. If they thrived, she would do so too. If they were all killed, she would fade away into nothing. A risk, but a committment. Zaylin was determined to forge a successful path forward for the Night Sisters however she could.
