Zamboning the Dorns (Evelynn)

Evelynn had begun to fall in line with his wishes, but there was still much more to do to fully convert her to the Dark Side of the Force. For that, he needed to completely dominate her life, and that included her living relatives. The Dorns were notorious Imperialists, and thus it was not exceptionally difficult for Kaine to locate them in the Galaxy. The remaining Dorn family was living on Lianna, and thus Kaine traveled there with Evelynn on the "Imperator". The escort carrier entered the atmosphere of the planet as Kaine summoned Evelynn to the hangerbay as their shuttle was prepping for flight, and alongside Kaine stood a squad of Black Iron Immortals ready to collect and subdue the Dorn family down below in the capital city. Once Evelynn had arrived Kaine addressed her, "Ah, Lianna. A once proud Imperial world, left to flounder in the Empire's death throes. You know why you are here, do you?" When Evelynn obviously didn't vocally answer, due to Kaine removing her vocal cords to eliminate her speech impediments and to silence her objections, he answered it for her. "We are here to track down, and capture what remains of your former family. The Dorns."

"To complete your training, I will show you the ineptitude of your pathetic former family, and make you realize that what I did to you was a blessing. You will see my way soon enough, dear Evelynn." Kaine then commanded his Immortals to file into the shuttle, followed shortly by Evelynn and Kaine. The shuttle lifted off of the hanger floor, and roared out from the hangerbay into the bleak Lianna sky towards the capital city.

The subjugation of the Dorns had begun...

The journey so far had been silent.

Everything about her life had become silent. She had witnessed Lord Zambrano systematically take everything that had once made up her life. Her mother, her best friend, her name, her voice, even that spark of life that once glimmered in her eyes had been robbed, it was gone. Not to mention her freedom.

Evelynn could have escaped by now if she had really wanted to, there were no physical chains that bound her, there wasn't even need for guards to be posted at her chambers any longer. The girl had made a prisoner out of herself, probably all according to plan.

When was the last time she had felt hope? Or joy? The girl couldn't even remember the last time she had smiled. Was she even capable of twisting her face in such a way any more?

On the other hand, this new found numbness had begun to strip away her panic and terror. Naturally a small fear remained that one day Kaine would simply tire of her and strike her down but at least the girl could look him in the eye now. Baby steps.

As the shuttle rattled Evelynn stared at her Master, a silent fury in her stare. The Dorns. Another part of her life that Karin Dorn had so thoughtfully hidden from her. There it was, she caught herself in a moment of loathing towards her mother, it hadn't been the first and they were moments that were growing more and more frequent.

What was happening to her?

The shuttle dropped through the clouds and buzzed past the skyscrapers of Lianna City, landing down in a small park not far from the Dorn's residence in a large apartment complex. As the doors opened the Immortals jumped out and began to rush towards the apartment, followed shortly by Kaine and Evelynn, who seemed to be taking their sweet time. Lianna civilians fled in fear before the Immortals, many of them being too slow to escape and suffering the brutal blunt force of the Immortal's stun pikes. "Luckily the Republic hasn't touched this world yet. Would make things much more difficult than it should be..." Kaine said with a chuckle as they approached the besieged apartment, which the Immortals were quickly scouring for the Dorn family. Soon enough a message came down from the lead Immortal, "Milord, we have discovered the Dorn Family in room 240, level 17. We're detaining them until you and Lady Evelynn arrive."

Kaine gave a look to Evelynn, "Time to go meet the folks."

What a pleasant leisurely stroll.

The apartments building didn't exactly speak of affluence or note and as they came closer to the building a feeling of apprehension washed over her. What would they find inside? Who would they find inside?

Once upon a time she might have held concern for the citizens caught in the path of the Immortals but that was an Evelynn whose skin had been long since shed. Compassion had been lost, how could she think of helping others? The girl couldn't even save herself! She simply stared at those who had been too slow to escape such wrath. Should have moved faster.

Up in room 240 they would find a family of five crammed into one apartment. The dear old grandparents, and a collection of two aunties and an uncle ranging between the ages of early twenties and late thirties. There were probably more than that scattered across the planet. They were a family keen on breeding for success, trying to create successful children amongst a sea of failures.

They would enter the room and be presented with some of the harshest faced humans in existence. The Dorns were all graced with cruel, thin features, like human rats. She could instantly see her mother in their faces as they began to grovel.

Silently she surveyed her former-family.

@[member="Darth Vornskr"]

Kaine turned and walked into the apartment, and surveyed the filth the Immortals had subdued. He sneered viciously as he examined their faces, but there was no doubting they were Dorns. They all had that weasel face so trademarked by Karin, and Evelynn of course to an extent. Kaine cleared his throat, "Greetings Dorns, sorry to so abruptly interrupt your boring and droll daily lives, but I have come to liberate you from your life of mediocrity! I am Vornskr, and it was by my hand that the great Karin Dorn was slain, and her daughter so woefully enthralled into my service." He gave Evelynn a little push on the back to put her into the limelight of the situation while continueing to talk, "I will give you the chance right now, to bend the knee to me and forever become enthralled into my service, forgo your family name and adopt a new one to replace it. Pledge your allegiance to me, and I will liberate you. If you do not bend the knee, well... Karin Dorn does need friends..."

A few moments passed of pure silence, but then one by one the assembled Dorns began to whimper and beg and plead to Kaine to spare their lives. They pledged themselves to his will, and continued to grovel before him as Kaine and Evelynn watched. "Very well, I will liberate you. Henceforth you shall no longer be Dorns, but instead you shall be a new family. A family that will serve your Lord and Master, Vornskr, from no onto doomsday. You shall now be known as Grotthu, and you and your descendants shall serve my own. Now, all of the Dorn family on Lianna must submit in the same way, and as your first task as my new servants, I command you to contact every Dorn you know, and tell them to meet you out by my shuttle in the park below. Do this, or face my divine wrath..."

Oh gods, they were pathetic.

They tittered almost excitably that their daughter and sister had been slain, like it was exciting, as if it was an honour that Karin Dorn had indeed climbed high enough to have been slain in the first place. They should have been mourning the loss of family, not celebrating her former status. Revulsion ran through her.

Of course he wouldn't be able to let this delicious moment pass without throwing her to the dogs either.

She felt the eyes of her blood relatives wash over her, as if she were a creature at a zoo both exciting and fascinating to behold. Evelynn responded in the only way she could, by staring back at them with a mixture of revulsion and horror. They submitted so easily. Come to think of it, so had she, the only one that put up any shred of resistance was Karin and all know what kind of fate that brought.

But even Evelynn hadn't been this pathetic.

As her uncle scurried off to the house terminal to call and gather the rest of the family Evelynn's grandmother grabbed the girl's hand and rasped, “What is your name, girl?”

I'm not entirely sure if Kaine would appreciate his new servants speaking out of turn but he wouldn't get the chance to react first as the Apprentice swiftly withdrew her hand and delivered a thundering backhand to the old woman. It was a gut reaction. A moment of complete and utter venom. The girl wanted to scream into the woman's face, having dived into Thule Castle's library she knew what Grotthu meant and servant was a nice way of putting it.

She could feel the bile rise in her throat.

No, no, none of that. He had removed her vocal chord in response to her stutter, what we he do if she kept throwing up the contents of her stomach? It didn't bear thought. So instead she turned on her heel to face away from the wretches, her roots.

@[member="Darth Vornskr"]

Kaine smirked as Evelynn backhanded her grandmother in response to her words, perhaps Evelynn was finally seeing the Dorns for what they truly were. Sniveling rats, undeserving of greater glory. Hopefully she would see Kaine's treatment of her as a blessing, instead of a curse. Throwing off her abhorrent old name to remove herself from those vermin, and removing her vocal cords so she couldn't beg as they could. It was all very symbolic and what not, all poetry and that garbage. As the scene ended the uncle came running back in and knelt oddly before Kaine, "M-milord... I have, uhh... contacted the other family members... they will be here shortly, your grace." Kaine sneered again and turned his back on them all, "Very good, now come along. It is time for the rest of you to bend the knee, or be destroyed... Let us hope they are as smart as you are." By smart, Kaine meant he hoped they were all the same cowards these ones were.

Kaine and his Immortals strode out from the apartment to see a gaggle of speeders and other transports converge on the park to land around Kaine's shuttle, and soon enough clumps of Dorns began to shuffle out to meet the assembly of Sith and Immortals. Kaine moved ahead of the group to address the new arrivals, "Greetings Dorns... I am Lord Vornskr, and I have come to liberate you from the shackles that bind you. Behind me you will see members of your former family, who I have given the same offer as I will give you. They have submitted to my will, and found a greater glory as my unwavering servants. They are no longer Dorns. They are now Grotthu, and there is no greater position to be held under my stead. So I ask you now... throw off the shackles of your old life, and pledge yourself to me, and I will name you Grotthu. Who will stand with me?"

Most of the Dorn immediately bowed before Kaine, but there were a few stragglers who no doubt thought themselves too proud to bend the knee to another. No matter, they will be dealt with in time. Kaine smiled, "I see there are those who will not bend, and I would like those who came to their senses to stand with your other comrades who have chosen this new life." And they did, shuffling over to stand with the family Kaine found in the apartment, leaving a nice little clump of stragglers left behind. Kaine smiled again and waved his hand ever so lightly, and in a single instant the Black Iron Immortals leveled rifles and opened fire on those who wished to remain Dorn. Their forms collapsed in a heap as the bolts ripped through them like soft tissue paper. "Impale them in the park, as a reminder to those who refuse to bend to a Sith Lord." Kaine then commanded the Grotthu huddle themselves into his shuttle, while the Immortals went about their grim corpse.

But how did Evelynn feel about all of this?

Terribly convenient how one family could live within such a short distance of each other. Sure, there were black sheep and outcasts that lived on other planets who wisely tried to distance themselves from the very name Dorn. But they were few and far between, however in that same breath they were also beings made of a more special substances, who had stories written about them rather than merely short cameos.

Some food for thought.

As they both had their backs turned to the wretches Evelynn shot her Master a look that said it all. Disbelief. Smart as you are. Smart. They were eating it up. They....they....she could scarcely believe it and suddenly any shred regret for striking the woman that would have been her grandmother vanished.

As all branches of the family gathered out onto the park it was evident that they had bred in hopes of quality but had ended up with quantity. A human infestation. They were literally two-legged rats.

Wait wait wait. Grotthu. No greater position? What?! No, they were idiots. They deserved it, they actually deserved a life of slavery.

The scene played out before her, and as she watched the only Dorns with a spine get gunned down a thought emerged. This could have been her, this was a fate that she had been spared from. In hypothetical situations it was easy to say that, 'Oh yes, I wouldn't have knelt! No way, not I!' but she was grounded, Evelynn would have bowed like the rest of them.

Suddenly being stripped of her name was kindness.

She stood stiff, caught in a blaze of confusion as she observed the Immortals preparing the corpses for display. There was no urge to vomit, no fear and no wish to shield her eyes from this horrific exhibit. A pity that the wrong Dorns had been shot. The disgust and revulsion caused by the huddled mass of sheep was almost overwhelming.

Her small fists trembled.

@[member="Darth Vornskr"]

Kaine watched idly as the Immortals collected the bodies of the deceased Dorns, and began to erect large pikes upon which the corpses would be impaled in a most gruesome fashion. As they worked, Kaine chuckled and turned to Evelynn, "Do you see now, Evelynn? Your former brood are worthless cretins, unfit to even exist... Your mother was their only success, and she created you. I spared you because I saw potential in you, and I would not let your potential go to waste... I show you the true nature of the universe, and you will become a powerful Sith in your own right." Even now he could sense the hatred boiling underneath that small frame, the untapped power that grew more and more powerful each passing day. She would truly become his most powerful apprentice. Even more powerful than Balaya, perhaps... However; she would have to excel in her training before any of that could become a reality.

"We are done here, the majority of the Dorns have become our slaves. Any stragglers will be hunted down and destroyed, and the family tree cut down. Now come, we must take these sheep back to Panatha for processing..."

There had been almost an inkling of enjoyment as Evelynn watched the bodies receive a brutal skewering, said thrill lurked deep within her skin and at that moment in time the girl didn't even notice. It wouldn't be until a later reflection back upon this day that she would realise that something had stirred, something sinister.

Slowly she nodded at her Master's notions, another wave of gratitude washed over her. It was true, he had spared her, after all the girl's head still remained attached to her neck and well, she wasn't in the process of being rounded up like cattle to await a life of slavery.

It was...it was for the best.

Evelynn spared a glance towards the Grotthu, there was a flash, an expression on her face that lay somewhere between revulsion and disappointed and in that moment her mother's cruel features shone through. Of course, it had just been for a second.

A new downside of her lack of vocal chords had made itself known at this time. The opportunity for transitional dialogue had been lost. Of course, telepathy was always an option but as with any skill in the force, first it had to be learned and then perfected. Although let's save that notion and put it in our pockets for later.

After all, we've got livestock to deal with.

Once all of the Grotthu had been rounded up and loaded onto the ship, Kaine and Evelynn retired to the cockpit for the trip from the surface to the Imperator in low atmosphere. From there the slaves were put into the ship's brig for the remainder of the trip from Lianna to Panatha, and when the Imperator exited hyperspace above Panatha they were moved back to the hanger and crammed into the shuttle again. Then they were transported to the slave quarter of Kaine's palace, and were assorted into various duties by the taskmasters present. Many would become simple servants, cooks, maids, and other menial positions worthy of their position. The females who happened to have the most physical appeal, which was spread extremely thin among the new slaves, became part of the harem that infested the palace. Others yet became experiments for the palaces' apothecaries and warlocks, their bodies and minds twisted beyond all belief at the hands of the cruel acolytes. Many of them would hardly resemble the men and woman they once were, forever twisted to mimic their souls, and their vermin features enhanced dramatically.

Kaine, meanwhile; retired to his throne chamber to await a band of Grotthu slaves that had showed the most intelligence out of all. They would be given to Evelynn, to do with as she wished, as a very odd and peculiar gift. What that gift symbolized was left to the thoughts of others, but Kaine insisted upon them anyways. "I can sense the change in you, Evelynn... The shift in morality, and that pleases me greatly. Accept these former family members as your new servants, and do with them as you please. Ah, but I believe it might be difficult for you to communicate, but have no fear." Kaine said with a smile before placing his right hand on the top of Evelynn's head, and suddenly began to invade her thoughts. Just like how Drain Knowledge stole information from a person's mind, Kaine now began to funnel the basic knowledge of telepathy into Evelynn's mind.

It wasn't anything too advanced, but it would help her speak where she had no voice.

Another note about no longer having a voice, it left a lot of time to think. Social anxieties had becoming a thing of the past for the girl. I mean, so often she had to contemplate carefully upon what she was going to say, how to say it and just in general how to address each and every single person she encountered. This, this was no longer a problem. Issues of a past life, of a girl who was so easily flustered in conversation that it was embarrassing.

Being mute was a godsend.

I mean, it hadn't been a pleasant experience, no, no, the horror of it would likely stick with her for a long time but it was starting to shine through as a benefit rather than a curse. Of course, this was far from straight thinking, to say it bluntly Kaine Zambrano had stolen her voice in an act of wicked malice and she wanted to thank him for it? No. That was madness, a new warped variety of thoughts that were polluting her to the core.

The gift of servants had been an unexpected one. Perhaps a token to keep her grounded, or rather grateful. This could have been you. Oh yes, that would be a pleasant reminder but in the same breathe it almost felt like a victory, after all Evelynn was still living and she wasn't so blatantly a slave. Yes, not blatant at least.

Yet there was still that flash of satisfaction in knowing that her Master was pleased with her progress, the warping of a compassionate girl into this uncaring, unfeeling creature. Was she truly any better than the Grotthu before her? Or was Evelynn truly the worst of this rotten bunch?

The girl welcomed his gift of knowledge, making no attempt to throw up any mental barriers or resist him in any capacity. It was a peculiar sensation, like levelling up in the game just being given the insight on a technique, to have been oblivious seconds before. It boggled the mind.

Thank you, My Lord.

Would be rude not to spread ill-begotten appreciation about, wouldn't it? Also, look at you, girl. Grasping that imparted knowledge so swiftly. I'm proud and if your mother wasn't caught in the eternal suffering of Chaos right at this moment I'm sure she would have been proud too.

@[member="Darth Vornskr"]

"It was nothing, my apprentice. Now you truly have the voice worthy of a Sith, not one of a girl who had been unwillingly sheltered her entire life with no real concept of the greater galaxy. You are stronger now than you would have ever been in the clutches of your mother, and you will be greater than her one day." Kaine said as he placed both hands on Evelynn's shoulders, squeezing them ever so slightly before turning away to sit upon his black throne. Kaine smiled as he looked over the pathetic gaggle of slaves he had given to Evelynn, and wondered what the young apprentice would even do with them? There were a lot of possibilities, but Kaine was not Evelynn, and thus he could not possible know. That was all up to Evelynn, of course.

Unwillingly sheltered. Clutches of your mother. It was those moments of select wording that really got her, they sent any and all pangs of rage and loathing away from the direction of Kaine, he who fully deserved her rancor and towards her deceased mother, which was hilarious considering Karin had sheltered her daughter with the intention of preventing exactly this.

What an epic backfire.

For the first time in forever, Evelynn smiled. It wasn't big or toothy, I wouldn't call it a grin nor a smirk. No, it was in fact small, content in nature and completely sickening to behold. Oh yes, Master's approval is a delicious dish, no? The small squeeze of her shoulders. Oh yes. Gratification nation, right next door to Manipulation Station. Who named these places?

The Grotthu were a different matter however.

Even in this new-found moral shift she was never going to be the type to lounge around on thrones being fed delightful fruits by scantily clad slaves. In all honesty the girl didn't have a clue what she would do with them.

Although...

Choosing to not even grace the minds of the sub-humans with her newly gifted telepathy she pointed out a single slave with her finger, gesturing for him to stand forward. The Grotthu was of no note, just as rat-faced and spineless as the others. It opened it's mouth to speak but she swiftly raised the finger to her own lips, indicating that this was a time for silence.

In her readings upon Thule she had come across a fairly simple technique that had managed to grab her attention. It was silent. The girl envisioned the anatomy under the skin of her creature, through the muscle and beneath the ribcage. The organs. There were a plethora to choose from but there would be time to experiment later. Little did the girl know that this was a favoured technique of a certain ancestor.

There were no nerves, no fear to trip her up and certainly no stutter in technique. The force flowed through her and wrapped itself around the Grotthu's heart, and then pressure. He screamed, clutching at his chest, no, clawing in some vague attempt to relieve his symptoms of agony. All the while the girl kept that finger pressed to her own lips as she watched him crumble, writhing and begging all the while as his organ experienced the horrifying sensation. This was her quiet fury, all that had been pent up inside of her small form, her disgust and hatred towards the former Dorns released upon that unfortunate individual.

After a minute of this she finally let go. Kaine, what have you done?

@[member="Darth Vornskr"]

Oh, the devious smile that spread like a wildfire across his face was truly one of a monstrous bastard. He watched with malefic glee as Evelynn tortured the hapless servant worm with the force, and how he applauded her technique. He could see it, as if a darkness had surrounded the fool's heart and began to squeeze ever so tightly. The horror and pain the Grotthu generated was like a banquet to Kaine, the tendrils of such natural emotions and feelings washing across the room to seep into the souls of every Dark Sider present. Kaine and Evelynn were the only force users in the throne room, and thus there was nowhere else for the fear to go. "Drink deeply from the pain you have caused, my young apprentice. Let it empower you, let it pleasure you... It is your source of power, and you will learn to wield it well."

When Evelynn released the slave from her grasp, the others finally moved away slightly in fear of their new master's powers. "You surprise me more and more, finally your new self is showing through the shell of your old self. Almost like you're a different person, Evelynn, and how do you feel about that?"

Pleasure.

An almost alien concept to Evelynn, until that moment. A pious sheltered life devoid of both sides of the pleasure and pain coin and now here we were, these two notions almost force upon her by Kaine Zambrano, not that she would blame him of course. Had her mother let her progress through life naturally instead of stunting her emotional growth in every way possible then this wouldn't have been such a problem, this wouldn't have been such an overwhelming experience.

She breathed it in. The atmosphere felt almost similar to the plague-ridden village she had seen on Manpha. Evelynn recalled that spike of fear that hung thick in the air when the sithspawn attacked. It was suffocating. This time felt much the same, except instead of being the cure she had been the cause.

For a second she was frightened. Who was this girl standing here? A crucial moment, one where a small devil and angel duo should have appeared to argue morality upon her shoulders. She looked to Kaine, seeking guidance from within his eyes. The angel was a no-show.

She was in too deep. He was pleased, and thus so was she.

The girl knelt down and bowed her head, she may not have been on the bottom rung of the food chain any longer but he was still her Master, and she was still subservient to him.

I feel that I must thank you, My Lord. For permitting me to see who I really am. How am I to repay you?

@[member="Darth Vornskr"]

Kaine chuckled, "I only ask of your complete obedience and unwavering loyalty, Evelynn. I am your key to mastery of the Dark Side, and of yourself, and under my watchful eye you will grow strong. In the future I will ask you to do things, terrible things, to other beings. You will learn to kill, torture, and to destroy all that stand before you. You are on the threshold of greatness, and there must be no more doubts, no more insecurities that could hinder your progress. Your only companions will be hatred, anger, fear, and pleasure, and I will teach you to master all of them in due time. However; I do not want some brute, I have other servants who fulfill that capacity, and I implore you to continue your research and study in the library. Knowledge is power, just as strength is power, and your ability to learn will serve you well."

He relaxed back into his throne, "On another note, should you find another way to repay me for all that I have done for you, you may tell me."

The girl nodded as he spoke, the girl was certain that over time she would have to master these small gestures. The art of composure. Master of body language. One day people would be able to read her intentions from a simple glance and in that same breathe she could play the deceiver, the most misleading of Sith, and all from a mere quirk of the brow.

A prospect once horrifying was a fact now acknowledged.

Kill, torture, destroy.

Notions that a girl named Evelynn Dorn could not comprehend. Abhorrent conceptions. Thankfully Miss Dorn was perished and now what was left was original sin. More than willing to hand out calling cards of suffering in the name of her Master, and she would relish it herself.

She remained kneeling.

Peace is a lie, there is only passion.
Through passion, I gain strength.
Through strength, I gain power.
Through power, I gain victory.
Through victory, my chains are broken.
The Force shall free me.

Evelynn stood, waving a dismissive hand at the Grotthu that remained huddled before them, and like the rats they were they scampered off no doubt to titter in terror in the slave quarters.

I pledge myself to you. I shall learn, I shall grow, I shall heed your every command and in return I shall repay you with greatness.

"Gooooood, very gooooood my young apprentice. A powerful Sith you shall become, and you will destroy anything that stands in your way." He said in a voice that wasn't quite itself, but instead seemed to be a horrific blending of two different voices which gave off an eerie echo. "Henceforth, you shall stand at my side as the executor of my will, and my primary servant. You will go forth into the galaxy and do my bidding... Make allies, create connections... Use your considerable mind to manipulate others to do your own bidding, and create your own holdings... To this end, I give to you one of my personal ships to aid you, and a squadron of my Vanr warriors to act as your enforcers. When you have established yourself in the galaxy, report back to me and I will give you your next task."

Evelynn stood, giving a solemn nod in response.

She had been reborn. Almost all traces of the girl she had been not that long ago were gone, shredded in a flurry of brutality and manipulations. Where was that nice nervous girl? The one that was so easily flustered by simple conversation? Where was Evelynn Dorn? It would have been best to say that she was dead, yet one fragment remained.

The last fragment of her former self lay in a boy named Sopher Jakobs. The last bastion of resistance, a single thread that kept the silent girl and her former-self bound.

However she would not think of him, not in the presence of Kaine where her mind was his, and her thoughts unsafe. There was no doubt that he already knew, but still it was unsafe to even spare the tiniest of thought for Sopher. Not here. Not now.

Without another word the girl whirled around and swept out of the throne chamber. This marked the beginning of her journey. A smile danced upon her lips.
