You're a Wordy One, Mr. Andros [Dragon School]

Kashyyyk
The Silver Rest

It had been some time since Josh had taken a new student. Performing the Grandmaster's duties in Jyoti's absence while also performing his own was not an easy job, but he had been doing his best. He had not taken a new student since his top students, Dusaro Dresari and Asaraa Vaashe, had taken their place as Jedi Knights and graduated from his school. But it seemed that now, he would be taking in a lad that needed a Master. He had been asked to watch a Tournament recently in Grandmaster Nooran's place, and the lad had been impressive despite a lack of experience, but also held a great deal of aggressiveness... Something Josh knew he wanted to iron out. Requesting the lad be assigned to him, he hoped to do his best to mold him into the Jedi that he knew that he could be, given time and work.

Within the Silver Rest, the Jedi Master would wait in one of the training rooms for the Padawan that had been summoned. Cross-legged, deep in meditation, he allowed his body to float through the air as his aura radiated through the room...

Summoned by the Master of the Order and Acting Grandmaster? Have I done something wrong? Was my performance exceptional, or sloppy? Does he wish to impart some advice? These thoughts raced through young Lucius's mind as he strode through the Silver Rest's halls. He was quiet, paying attention to no one. His performance in the tournament he had taken part in, he felt, was lackluster. He could have done better, if he had put his mind to it and just trained a little harder. His form was sloppy, and rough. He was lucky he had done as well as he did. After all, he was only an initiate.

Perhaps he had spent too much time on his studies on the militaristic arts and politics, not combat. Or perhaps he needed to focus solely on lightsaber combat, and not force abilities. Whatever the case, he had to present himself well to the Master. He prepared himself mentally, running through formal, respectful greetings and honorable conduct. As he reached the door, he hesitated. He tried to listen for any conversation.

None. Silence. At the very least, he had no evidence of people discussing anything to be worried about. Taking a breath, he let a beat pass. Then he opened the door, slightly slower than normal, but not too slow. It creaked open then quickly opened normally.

"Hello? You summoned me?" He asked, closing the door quietly and standing, arms behind his back, hands clasping each other.

Josh took a moment to review over what he knew of the Padawan by his records. He possessed decent skill for one of his level of experience, but was apparently a bit arrogant. He was detail-oriented, but very wordy as well. Wordy was good, but one needed to learn balance. He appeared to overthink things, and it hurt his speed. Overthinking was a problem Josh had at some points as well, though he'd learned to steadily concoct plans on the fly as he was fighting. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. But it was something he'd have to accept, as it fit his style better than anything else. There was no "perfect" strategy, no "perfect" traits, no "perfect" style... Just different aspects with their own strengths and weaknesses.

The Padawan would enter the room and inquire as to why he had requested his presence. The Master of the Order would stop then, brown eyes steadily, slowly opening as he would process the room around him. His levitation ended as he rose to a full 6'5 height. Spinning his heel, he would turn to face the man that he had chosen as a pupil. Looking him up and down, he studied him a few moments before speaking.

"Steady your nerves" He spoke calmly, wanting to at least put the Padawan at ease before he spoke, as he would move forward and reach out a hand to shake.

"I am Josh DragonsFlame, Master of the Order. I've seen you fight. And reviewed your records. It's come to my attention that despite your progress, you lack a formal Master. Correct?"

As the Master's levitation slowly stopped as he drifted to the ground, Lucius was slightly impressed with the height of the Great Jedi. He had seen him before, but not in a personal interaction. He took a brief moment, a few milliseconds to study the Master's physical details. However knowing he would appear odd if he did so more than that, he shook the Master's hand firmly, and slightly excitedly.

"Yes...Sir." He replied, a little quietly. "I suspect it may be due to my sloppy form and how late in life I was brought to the academy and discovered by the Jedi."

He got comfortable, not one to remain nervous for too long. He considered briefly taking a seat before declining the thought, it would have been abrupt and inappropriate.

The Master shook his head. "There is no time too late for the Silver Jedi. I do not know what Orders you have been in before coming to us, but the Silver Jedi Order is far more than just a sect of Jedi" Josh would explain calmly as he would shake the man's hand. Despite reports, this one didn't seem to think much of his capabilities... Or perhaps he was simply obsessed with self improvement? He would find out over time, he was sure.

"Relax yourself, take a deep breath. You are not in any sort of trouble, nor do we think you have done any less than as has been expected considering the short amount of time you have been here with us. We are here to help you learn, so that you might then help others. That is a tenant we practice. Now, as for why I have called you here..." He would trail off a moment, taking a deep breath.

"I have called you here because I wish to take you as my apprentice, if that is to your agreement. I feel there is a great deal of potential... But also much that needs to be polished. I want to ensure that you can be what you are able to be, if you will have me as your mentor. You are free to ask for another Master to take you of course, if you feel I am unsuitable. I will leave the choice to you. Neither choice will give me any sense of personal offense, so do not fret on that. Do what is best for you and what will be most comfortable to you here with us in the long term. None will fault you for that in these circumstances."

Lucius was stunned. He had known he had vast potential, but for The Master Of The Order to directly propose being his master...That sent tingles down his spine. He had to control himself, though internally, his mind was excitedly rushing through all the adventures they could have together and what he could learn, as well as what he could achieve. However he tempered this with harsh criticism internally of his arrogance.

I shall definitely disappoint the Master. I do not possess the capabilities he likely expects. My talents are unrefined, and sloppy. I'm not that capable.

His mind snapped back at itself.

Yes I am!! I need to take advantage of this and accept his offer. This is great for me! This will allow my goals to be achieved!

Yeah, like I actually have that talent. I simply have been lucky, we won't go on to achieve much.

Oh shut up yes I do! I always doubt me! I'm like a terrible father to myself!

No, I'm a realistic father to me.

Ok this is getting really weird I should dropt it.

Yes I should.

I'll accept.

Ok but I'm gonna fail.

Shut up retard.

K, I called me a retard. :c

I'm sorry.

It's ok.

This odd situation played in Lucius's mind in less than about 3 seconds. He cheerfully smiled and took a short deep breath.

"It would be an honor, Master Dragonflame. This is much more than I expected coming in here. Nor had I hoped to get such a great honor, as I had simply expected to be assigned to a stop Master at most, not the absolutely highest ranked acting member of the order."

He bowed, hand on his left part of his chest.

When he rose back up, he felt a little embarrassed at such a dramatic gesture. But ahh...how he loved theatrics. It would do. He quickly decided to shift to a less goofy looking smile and restrain his excitement.

The Padawan appeared to be experiencing some sort of turmoil as he sensed the shifting sea of emotions washing over him. Definitely an overthinker, whether Lucius knew it or not, the reports definitely appeared to be correct. Far too much was washing over him and he could see that the tides of emotions threatened to swallow him whole if he did not control them. No, not avoid them like the Jedi of old would preach... But control. He awaited Lucius' response patiently, and would gingerly give a half-bow as he would accept.

Stop Master? What was a Stop Master? All the Masters here, as few as there were, were all skilled in their own ways. Was he getting old and not understanding all this new lingo? Had he been out on the field for too long? It made him shudder to think about it.

He smiled lightly, a calm but amused tone in his voice when he spoke following the boy's theatrics.

"First of all, I'd like to get an idea of what your experience is so far. Getting to know you, what you have experienced and what you know will do me well in learning how to teach you to the best of my abilities."

Lucius nodded and began pacing around the room, as his gears began turning.
"I was taken in at age 14. To make up for this I have sacrificed social interaction, a particularly favorite activity of mine, for much more training to compensate. I have been emphasizing training on my lightsaber skills, working to create a personalized intuitive fast and aggressive style, without using the exhausting and risky methods of Ataru. I have used Niman as my basis, as well as integrating 3 very different forms. Form lll is used as my backup defensive method, to analyze my opponent and deal with opponents who my aggressive tactics won't work against, at least not directly. Thus, I use it for times when my aggressive assaults are too risky, or when, as I stated, need to prove an opponent. I possess solid gross motor control, so I will not move too widely which would open gaps in my guard."
He paused and looked back at the master. Seeing no sign to stop, he took a breath and continued his explanation of his lightsaber skills, focusing on his tactical mindset.

Form ll is used exclusively for lightsaber dueling, used to disarm my opponent without killing them, or used for tactical advantage whenever I feel an opponent would be weak to it or would give me an opportunity to defeat them, as well as to prove my opponent. Form V-the Shien variant only-is used as a backup for blaster deflection, and used as an unorthodox style to catch my lightsaber opponents off guard. However, I find it's speed useful and believe it provides a solid moveset for my personalized, quick style that can deal with any opponent. Form VI, Niman, is still my basis, but it allows me a fast, balanced technique as well as ability to integrate force attacks. It will provide me a lot of opportunities in the future, especially to be unpredictable, and deal with any situation."

He finished.

"Other than that, I have focused on political and diplomatic studies, as well as telekinesis and some telepathy. I intend to study Telepathy more significantly, and I feel I have prodigious skill with Force Empathy."

He turned back to the Master, hoping he had not spoken too much.

"That's all I know. It's nothing special." He straightened himself, feeling like he was awkward now that he was standing still, which seemed awkward to him.

Josh began making mental notes as the Padawan began describing himself in intricate detail. Sacrificed social interaction? He trained his arse off and still had time for it. Holo-communicators existed for a reason. He'd been able to have a family, and while his list of close, proper friends was something that Josh could count on one hand, he did have people he kept in contact with all while he spent hours at a time training to the point that he usually ended up needing trips to a bacta tank if he had time for that sort of training. Usually on his ship en-route to something. He was a miracle worker when it came to cleaning up well after that sort of thing when going to a party, and looking as if he'd just been sipping tea all day long. For the Padawan, if social activity was a "favorite" of his, truly, he would have figured it out. But Josh didn't say anything at first, he'd give his thoughts after.

He got into his lightsaber training next, he seemed to have a good knowledge of forms. Would Josh even need to teach him lightsaber forms, then? He'd at least give a refresher course, probably, but whoever had taught him the forms had clearly taught him enough to continue to work on them on his own. He seemed to have a concrete style down, though it sounded like it needed work.

Then of course he finished with "nothing special" as if he were trying to make himself sound humble. Ignoring that, he would simply nod his head.

"Question" He responded. "You're aware that the mind and body need rest and recreation to function to their full potential, right?" He asked, leaving that question to hang for a moment before continuing. "You said that social activity is a favorite of yours. Which means it is a viable means of rejuvenation for your mind. A better mind forms better strategy, a fresher mind works more quickly with less lag. A fresher body meanwhile, reacts more quickly. It is fine to train in excess, with true dedication... But make time for other things, as keeping a mind and body that are in peak condition is just as important as the training itself.

Furthermore..." He trailed off before speaking again. "You are forgetting that the Jedi are a unit. When you do begin to go out on missions, you will more often than not be paired with other Jedi... Especially in my class, as I prefer you do so. If you and your ally are strangers to one another, your chemistry suffers, your communication suffers. While a team that knows each other well is capable of functioning like a well-oiled machine. My partner, [member="Riamah"] and I, while we have our differences in how we handle things... Work well hand in hand and are far more capable of disposing of opponents than we are as individuals. I want you to work on learning about your fellow Jedi, especially those you will be working with on missions. Interact with them, get an idea of how they think and make adjustments. It will maximize your efficiency tenfold if you are able to telegraph the thoughts and movements of your partner, and be able to communicate well with them and coordinate. That is a vital key to success.

Any questions?"

Feeling like he had overlooked an obvious solution, Lucius felt slightly embarrassed and his head felt slightly lighter and his cheeks warmed up a little. As his new Master began pointing out his errors, he began to look a little less confident and more humbled. He had focused on being a one man Army and neglected the social links that made the Jedi function well as a group. He had focused so much on himself, one could say he became self-obsessed, perhaps, in his mind. To do good yes, and to train himself, but his full dedication to self-improvement at the cost of social interaction had isolated him and made him vulnerable to the Dark Side, perhaps, in his own view. Studying Sith lore, he discovered that Jedi often fell when isolated, which meant this must have put him at risk. Resolving to not let that happen to him, he quietly and respectfully listened, then nodded.

"I understand master. What do you wish for me to do currently? A mission, assignment, task?"

Wishing to make up for minor mistakes that he was likely overthinking, he sought to learn from his new wise, experienced master.

He'd have to deal with that, no Jedi was perfect. Especially ones starting out. Josh was intent on mining a diamond out of this Padawan, and he would do that. By the time they were done, then he would be ready to be a Jedi Knight and only then. Josh noticed though, that Lucius became a fair bit meeker in sound after his criticisms. It sounded like there was an ego in him, one that he was likely offending. But that's just how training went, and he would learn to squash his ego before long, he was sure. Jedi were not arrogant, after all. It always led to their downfall. Always.

"As for what's next... We're going to go over your capabilities. Just some basics. I'll be watching not only your physical capabilities... But -how- you handle them. Physically, mentally, emotionally."

He would walk over to the terminal nearby and begin to activate the room's holographic simulation functions. The room would transform around them, as dummies would begin appearing as if from thin air. They looked almost real, even. And would ragdoll like they were real.

"Telekinetic manipulation. Force Push."

He motioned then to the obstacle course that had begun piling up, with more dummies atop them as the course began to build higher and higher, seemingly reaching for the heavens. Several parts of the structure had doors that opened and shut rapidly.

"Force Speed. Force Leap."

If Lucius was good with sense, he would be able to sense a presence above them, moving at fast speeds... As if it were preparing to attack at any moment.

"And while you do that, prepare to use your senses. You'll need them."

He motioned toward them all.

"I want to see a demonstration. Let's see what you can do. Treat it as a life threatening situation to you and to others... You'll need to learn to accommodate for pressure. If any of these abilities you don't know, tell me and we will go over them first. If you know them... You have four minutes."

[member="Lucius Alexandros"]

A test. Lucius groaned a little. He quickly got in the game however, and began analyzing the best way to act. He acted quickly. He activated his training sabre and confronted the challenge.

--------

The dummy was pushed back by the force of his force push, another hologram attacked him from behind but he used a backwards high kick. The hologram of a blaster bolt flashed by him, he dodged and rushed towards the assailant, blitzing the "enemy" with a swift flash of his sabre. He had to conserve energy, the training course had just begun 2 minutes ago.

He sensed a boulder-or rather a hologram of one-falling on top of him. Force Leaping out of the way, he force leaped again onto a higher ledge. He was immediately granted with a series of blaster bolts for his efforts. Shocked and panicking, he deflected a couple, was grazed by a few, but managed to dodge the rest and blitz the holographic opponents. He then found himself at a rapidly opening and closing door.

He hesitated, before rushing through it, thankfully managing to get through it one go. A holographic blade swung by his nose, barely touching it, if it was real, it would have nicked a few flakes of his skin off, but no real injury. He managed to leap back, then waited for the blade to pass by again, and leaped past it in the split second he had to act. The hologram however registered a little bit of his skin when he leaped through, and if it had been real, he may have barely lost a couple skin cells, but still was a notable failure.

He continued, dodging and moving quickly past the holographic pendulums, his reflexes improving as he did so. He swiftly moved through the mimicked Flamethrowers and decapitated a mock enemy soldier.

Sprinting, he quickly made it through many mock booby traps and narrowly avoided two mimicked boulders falling on top of him, barely. Panting, he began to feel strain. He had used his speed significantly, and despite his capabilities, he was burning out of energy fast. He began moving at a more sustainable pace, avoiding a mimicked blaster bolt barrage through relying on timing rather than pure speed. He then used his force push to knock the force dummies off their feet, and continued his pace, moving past them and decapitating them quickly with a wide sweeping strike. He stuck to one-handed moves, disliking how uncomfortable two-handed moves were. He was caught off guard by a flurry of mimicked blaster bolts, but then transitioned to the Shien reverse grip and deflected many of them back to their attackers, with the rest narrowly missing him. He jumped at the holograms and cleaved two in half with one wide sweeping motion using the reverse grip, then switched back to the normal grip and quickly dispatched the rest with decapitations and quick cuts.

He continued at his pace, but he was getting exhausted. He leaped up, deflected another flurry of blaster bolts, rushed through pendulums, was shot from all around him and deflected the bolts, jumped out of the way of another pendulum, then he was finally hit by a mock blaster bolt in the chest, ending the simulation.

He panted heavily. He had strained himself to his limits. That was brutal... He thought to himself. It was clear the obstacle course would not be easy to complete. He was down on the ground, panting, too exhausted to look at how far he had made it, only worrying that he had disappointed his new master with his failure.

He had failed the course, but to Josh that wasn't a big deal. As the simulation seemed to register that he could not continue, the course would fall downward until he was back on the ground again, and then the holographic material would disappear. Taking a deep breath, Josh would grab a bottle of water from the refrigeration unit nearby and hand it to Lucius in order to refresh himself and regain his strength.

"You're wasting energy, though I can tell you realized that a fair ways in. But this is something you want to apply from the beginning" Josh would advise. "You need to keep your calm, regulate your breathing. Sense the Force, feel for the Force, let it come to you. Let it flow through you. Let it guide you. Take it as a friend, and not a weapon or tool... Relax. Calm. Serenity. Keep these three words to heart."

After a few moments, Josh would mull over what to do next. Then he got an idea.

"Once you are ready, we will begin going over the maneuvers I specified individually. Honing yourself in the individual parts will aid in mastering the whole."
