Strengths:
- Very heavy shielding - Provides shielding to other vessels, meaning they can reduce their own defensive capabilities and rely on it for defense. (Source - Z-Shielding panel)
- Long range - So long as the vessel or structure it is projecting upon is within a reasonable distance and is within line of sight, the vessel the panels are placed upon don't need to place themselves in any real danger or combat situation (Source - Z-Shielding panel)
- The nuclear option - The ship carries a lot of energy producing reactors, enough to sustain systems at a minimum while using its shielding panels
Durable - Strong shielding makes this a durable foe to face
- Circuit overload - Extreme energy outputs at a single instance can cause the individual panel to shut down completely and be unusable unless repaired (Source - Z-Shielding panel)
- Size does matter - The bigger the ship it is trying to protect, the higher the drain on the projecting ship's own power supply, and eventually gaps in the shielding will begin to appear if it is unable to sustain the beam. Additionally, any ship above 2000 meters would not be full covered and would require multiple panels to fully cover the surface area. (Source - Z-Shielding panel)
- Single layered - The more shielding panels a ship has, the more susceptible it is to overloading. (Source - Z-Shielding panel)
- Practically unarmed - The ship itself carries very few armaments, only a few turbo lasers. Prolonged fights will be difficult for it.
- Slow
IMF's latest ship, the Z-Galactic class cruiser is the first ship to utilize the patented Z-Shielding panel which is the ship's main feature, with the rest of the ship generally lacking in anything special of note. In general, the only strength it has outside of the panels is its superior shielding ability, but this comes at the cost of being almost completely defenseless along with the majority of the ship being dedicated to housing nuclear reactors, meaning it barely has enough room to carry anything other than necessary consumables and a small hanger bay for starships to utilize.
