OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION

  • Intent: Provide background for the bacta production on Thyferra

GENERAL INFORMATION

  • Organization Name: The Xucphra-Zaltin Corporation
  • Classification: Company
  • Affiliation: Galactic Alliance
  • Organization Symbol: The logo consists of an X and Z overlapping, written in Aurebesh
  • Description: Ever since its discovery, both Xucphra and Zaltin mass produced bacta for distribution across the galaxy, using the natural resources found on Thyferra. They held an exclusive monopoly of bacta under the reign of the Galactic Empire but now compete with other companies trying to replicate it. After suffering attacks on multiple facilities, a merger was agreed between the two companies to form one large body. As a member of the Galactic Alliance, the Xucphra-Zaltin Corporation exports to all other planets within the faction and still upholds relationships with neutral worlds. However, as a condition of membership, they no longer supply bacta to planets under the control of groups opposing the Galactic Alliance.

GEOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

  • Headquarters: Thyferra
  • Domain: The company owns a significant portion of land on the planet with a number of harvesting, production and storage facilities. As the major export of Thyferra, the bacta companies have a large voice in the running of the planet, including petitioning a place within the Galactic Alliance. What was once predominantly run by humans with almost 2.8 million native Vratix producing the bacta, the company is now more diversified in terms of the species in higher positions. Adopting the ethics of the Zaltin corporation, the company now prioritises the Vratix and their welfare, providing for the community rather than solely investing back into the company.
  • Notable Assets: Multiple facilities are dotted across the surface of the planet. These buildings include offices, harvesting plants, research laboratories, production facilities and storage for bacta before its distribution.

SOCIAL INFORMATION

  • Hierarchy: The Xucphra-Zaltin Corporation is overseen by two co-CEOs and a board of seniors for each of the branches of the company (accounting, marketing, agriculture, research, production, and warehousing). Under them are various managers and the teams of employees.
  • Membership: The company boasts almost 3 million employees over a large array of areas and levels of seniority. The requirements for entry vary on the level of the position and the field required. For example, very few qualifications are needed for cultivating the organic products required but a laboratory-based job will require previous experience and education. Apprenticeships are offered to fund an education alongside work for younger employees and prioritise the Thyferrans before offering placements to non-natives.
OOC: Anyone is welcome to say that they are an employee but please DM for senior positions within the company.
  • Climate: Due to the large demand for bacta, particularly in times of conflict, tensions can run high in certain areas, but a large workforce helps alleviate it. The company aims for a pleasant environment for its workers and offers ways to progress for all employees. The Vratix are used to labour, preferring working the fields, and do not mind long hours, though, under new policies, are given two days rest. Productivity even increases the more they are around their own kind.
  • Reputation: Being around for hundreds of years, both Xucphra and Zaltin are well-known names and are held in high regard for their contribution to the galaxy. Whilst no longer the sole producers of bacta, loyalty still holds true most of the time. After joining the Alliance, planets in enemy territories that used to have deals with Thyferra were no longer provided with bacta and could be a cause for resentment.
  • Curios: Members of the company have plans that allow them to a healthcare service that provides care for free with common issues and discounted prices for more specific ailments.
  • Rules: As a company that strives for the health of all people, no research that has the potential to be weaponised is forbidden. It shares the philosophy of the hive mind-like Vratix that dominates its workforce: betterment for all.
  • Goals: There is no desire to expand the company beyond Thyferra, being content on one planet and the many trade routes that they have access to. The goal is to help wherever possible, though that can be limited by the conditions of their place in the Galactic Alliance. This also includes in the pursuit of scientific knowledge and more effective ways to treat certain diseases and injuries.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION

During the Galactic Republic, the resource used by the Vratix for thousands of years was developed into two companies with the aim of producing bacta at a faster rate and distributing it throughout the galaxy. These two companies were the Xucphra Corporation and Zaltin Corporation. The former took advantage of the natives and worked them as much as possible. They even falsified the shortage of alazhi (a bacterial component of bacta) working alongside the Trade Federation to increase the prices of bacta. Zaltin cared more about the welfare of its workers and aligned with the Rebel Alliance in the Imperial Period.

Under the Galactic Empire, Xucphra was given the exclusive right to be the only bacta producer and was later followed by Zaltin also. The pair had seized control over the planet of Thyferra and made up the Bacta Cartel. A coup by the Vratix against the human control of their planet caused an assault on Xucphra (aided by Zaltin) and left the latter company in disarray, its workers being imprisoned or outlawed. Xucphra was overtaken by the leader of the Empire, Ysanne Isard, after the death of the Emperor to control the supply of bacta. The New Republic, the remnants of Zaltin and Vratix resistance (Ashern) eventually regained control, though the shortage of bacta had knock-on effects throughout the galaxy.

Both companies resumed business, but the Bacta War resulted in a loss of investment for Xucphra. The planet saw significant deaths at the hands of The Sith Empire during their campaign through the Galactic Core. Bacta productions were at an all-time low, and the focus went on rebuilding their own planet and mourning the dead rather than exporting. Many years later, the industry returned to normal, though now with competitors of synthetic alternatives and bacta replicas. However, the resurgence of the Empire targeted the shipments and bacta-production facilities. After intervention from the Galactic Alliance, it was agreed that Thyferra would become a member, continuing to supply to the allied planets and those that were neutral but not to those under the control of enemy factions. Sometime later, Xucphra and Zaltin underwent a merger to become one company.
