The XJ9 X-Wing was intended to be a next generation space superiority starfighter and one of the best combat ships the galaxy has ever seen. That is until some enterprising codebreaker sliced into Incom-FreiTek and leaked its schematics on the HoloNet. Although it was not fully perfected soon every hobbyist mechanic was building their own prototype XJ9. Even after rushing their own model into production by the time they hit the market some knock offs were even starting to make improvements.
Like most X-Wings the XJ series is built for speed and maneuverability. Its droid socket is useful for limited field repairs. However unless the starfighter's s-foils are locked in attack position its weapons cannot fire.
