The old XJ8 model X-Wing was high end for its time but is beginning to show its age. Although the starfighter's glory days are years gone they remain a common enough sight out on the galactic frontier. Despite some outdated systems they're reliable machines built to last. Often XJ8 squadrons are used as a workhorse for the OPA especially now that they're cheaper to produce and compatible spare parts are so abundant.
Like most X-Wings the XJ series is built for speed and maneuverability. Its droid socket is useful for limited field repairs. However unless the starfighter's s-foils are locked in attack position its weapons cannot fire.
