[+]Cybernetics:
Xel, after being shot down during the Omega Crisis has undergone numerous Cybernetic enhancements. His left arm, his right eye, half of his left leg and portions of his inner organs are one hundred percent robotic. Each of these has been carefully designed and created to assist in his role as a pilot, something that Xel himself insisted on. These cybernetics increase his reaction times, aid on the flow of adrenals and other stimulants, and in general push Xel to the limits of what a Human could do in the cockpit. Though they do not make him the best pilot, they certainly bring him on the level with others.

[+]Patience: His time spent in the hospital has cooled what was once a rather temperate man. Though he used to be fairly aggressive and not entirely on the level, Xel has learned through his trials to be more calm and patient. He no longer jumps the gun when it isn't called for, nor is he the same excitable young man he once was. Instead Xel has learned to let opportunity come to him.

[-]Cybernetics: The same thing that has enhanced him to his current state also make him vulnerable. The cybernetics that power them are hardened against Ion weapons and EMP's of course but this only goes so far. Ion shots, unlike with other organics, can and will slow, more than a few will shut down his cybernetics and more than likely kill him due their role in his survival.

[-]Bacta-Allergy: His copious time in the Bacta Tank after the Omega Crisis had an irreparable effect on Xel. Because he needed so much treatment and time to recover even with modern technology, Xel spent a hell of a lot of time submerged or somehow touched by Bacta. This eventually lead to his body naturally rejecting the substance and developing an allergy towards him. Bacta causes Xel to break out into a furious rash, prolonged exposure can do everything from giving him difficulty breathing to outright death.

Xel grew up on the far outer rim world of Terminus, through most of his childhood the world was controlled by the Moross Crusade, and this is reflected in the way he dresses, acts, and even carries himself.

The Crusade had always taught their children and their followers a strict path, and although Xel himself strayed from this path early in life, there was still a significant impact on him. Around his neck he carries the symbol of one of the Gods of Moross, the mother of the religion, Inari. A pendant given to him by his mother upon his joining of the Alliance Military, he carries it with him always and it is one of the few things to survive his crash during the Omega Crisis.

Apart from this Xel doesn't really change his appearance all too much.

Most often he can be found in standard Alliance Flight gear or the more specialized Flight Suits of Ghost Squadrons. Aside from this he generally wears normal civilian gear, almost always donning some kind of jacket and wearing a pleasant enough smile on his face.

From a young age, Xel had always wanted to be a pilot.

Growing up on Terminus the planet was controlled by the Moross Crusade. Xel as a young boy watched the Crusader armies sweep across the planet, liberating the criminal controlled sectors and slowly carving their way over the planet to eventually bring a calm peace to the world itself. When that peace settled in a garrison of Crusaders came with it. Always staunch protectors of the people, the Crusaders became heroes for many kids, including Xel. This was nothing special, and growing up it became clear that he and many of his friends idolized military service, something that the Crusade itself instilled within their education system.

As he grew older and time began to wear away, it became more and more clear that Xel was neither the bravest, nor the staunchest adherent to the ways of the Crusade. He was an idealist, a freethinker, and in general ill-suited for fighting. He was lanky, and in combat he had a tendency to simply be outmatched by his opponents. As his life began to unfold however Xel came across something that he had not considered before; flying.

The Crusade, though isolated in it's little corner of space, had of course utilized unique, almost audacious ships. It was these vessels that Xel fell in love with.

Even as the Crsuade began to fade, folded into the arms of the Lords of the Fringe, Xel kept his love for the odd ships still found upon Terminus. It was during these years that he began to indulge his obsession. At the age of 17 he joined the flight crew of a freighter. He worked as a simple laborer, doing what needed to be done and assisting where he could. Eventually the Captain of the ship began to teach him to fly, here it became readily apparent that Xel wasn't the best pilot, but his passion quickly saw him gaining in skill.

When the Galactic Alliance appeared within the outer rim Xel jumped at his chance, joining the Navy and immediately entering flight school.

Here his lack of talent was highlighted all the more. Almost every single person within the class was a better pilot than him, faster on reaction, coming up with better tactics, and in general just wiping the floor with him. Through simple perseverance and hard work, Xel managed to pass his flight test however, and within three months of graduating Xel found himself flying among Gold Squadron.

Though never the best, Xel proved capable enough, surviving more than a few engagements and staving off inevitable death more than once. Eventually the Omega Crisis struck, and like so many of his brothers Xel experienced a harsher reality. Through the events of the Crisis Gold Squadron was tossed into a rigorous battle, fighting the remnant Omega forces and eventually finding themselves near torn to a man. It was here that Xel was shot down, his ejector seat jamming within the atmosphere. Unable to save himself, Xel guided the ship down as best he could, eventually crashing into the slope of a mountain.

The X-Wing he flew tumbled and tore itself apart, the straps across his chest tearing into him until finally he came to a stop.

Eventually recovery crews managed to get to him, finding him with a barely beating heart.

Through the course of his crash Xel had received several life-threatening injuries. Broken bones, torn muscles, failing organs, Xel had them all. The Alliance however managed to save him, dragging him from the crash and eventually putting him in a state of the art Hospital. It was here that Xel was given a choice, or rather, he demanded one. Still wanting to fly, he begged the doctors to put him back together, to allow him to serve the Alliance and rejoin his brothers in the sky.

After much argument and deliberation, the Alliance eventually opened up a new project, allocating funding for cybernetics, advanced research, and necessary facilities. Through this project Xel, and other pilots, were treated to the best of Medical Sciences abilities. They were given augmentations, replacement limbs, and everything else they needed to fly once more. After nearly a year of recovery, Xel and six others were given the greenlight to fly again, the hope being that in the future the Alliance would be able to reproduce and use more of this technology to save their soldiers.

Xel and the others soon formed Ghost Squadron, a play on the fact that most of them had nearly died.
