OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Name: Wynn'dai
  • Origins: Lao-mon
  • Other Locations: N/A
  • Classification: Tree
  • Average Growth Cycle: Four months to reach maturity; the plant will continue to live indefinitely, going into hibernation in the winter months.
  • Viability: The wynn'dai grows best in slightly acidic, moist soil. It requires at least 60% humidity and a temperature range between 70-75 F (21-24 C).
  • Description: The wynn'dai resembles more common trees found on Lao-mon, though its lack of leaves causes it to appear dead. If you make enough noise near it, you will see the bark appear to "ripple", registering the vibrations caused by sound waves. After that, you will probably be seized, strung up, and left to die for the wynn'dai's nourishment.
PHYSICAL INFORMATION
  • Average Height: 21 meters (70 feet)
  • Average Length: N/A
  • Color: Dark green bark and lighter green leaves with a waxy sheen.
  • Nutritional Value: None
  • Toxicity: The plant is highly acidic and will burn your insides if you try to eat any part of it.
  • Other Effects: If it senses you (based on sound waves produced by movements and voices) it will attempt to eat you.
  • Distinctions: The wynn'dai flowers during spring and produces black berries, but it does not have leaves, leading many to mistake it for a dead tree.
Strengths:
  • Killer Trees: Wynn'dai trees feature bark that is highly sensitive to sound waves and other vibrations, a phenomenon that can be visibly observed as their trunks "ripple" in reaction to such stimuli. Once they sense that something is close enough for them to reach, their ground vines will reach out and grab the prey, holding it suspended in midair. If unable to escape, the prey will eventually die and fall to the ground, where the decomposition process provides nutrients to feed the tree.
Weaknesses:
  • Silence is Deadly: The presence of a wynn'dai tree is painfully obvious. The forest around them will seem unusually quiet, with no sounds of birds, insects, or other animals heard. They also do not grow near streams or other sources of water due to the noise affecting their ability to sense prey, so if you want to avoid becoming tree food, just stick close to water.
  • Only a Tree: The vines of the wynn'dai are tough, but no match for a lightsaber or even a few well-aimed blaster shots. Fire or extreme heat will also cause it to immediately drop whatever it is holding in an effort to escape.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
The wynn'dai tree is one of many types of carnivorous plants native to Lao-mon, but it is by far the largest of them all. This tree relies on vibrations in order to sense its prey, then strikes with long "vines" (technically a type of branch) to ensnare them. Victims are held suspended in the air until they die, at which point their remains will rot and drop to the ground, decomposing and enriching the soil from which the wynn'dai draws sustenance.
