Private Working the Streets

Lily had agreed to working with another Padawan, it was a chance to meet someone new and a chance to get some work done in the lower levels. It was also a chance to get back in the field and throw herself head first into the situation. Lily was desperate to get as much done and demonstrate her committed and desires to be a Jedi Knight within the New Jedi Order. Lily was working herself hard since she had been freed from the confinements of the healing halls, increasing the hours she trained and ensuring that her combat skills were going to rival even Jedi Masters. She couldn't afford to dull her edge now since it was clear that a group of Mandalorians could overpower her and she refused to end up in a situation where her combat skills were found to be lacking.

She wasn't sure who she was meeting up with, just knew it was another Jedi Padawan and that it was someone that she did not know. Lily was focused on getting to the location and getting the mission done swiftly, it was a little reckless in her thinking but the faster it was completed, the more she could do with her day. More training, more work. Spending too long would mean she would have to skip sleeping to catch up on her new stricter training regime. And she was already a couple days of missing some kind of sleep.

Arriving at the meeting point in the lower levels, she had taken the assignment but wasn't too sure on the details. For now she decided to read over the mission brief while she waited for the other Padawan to arrive and perhaps get an understanding of what they were about to head into. She doubted it would be anything too rough since the lower levels couldn't afford to get away with much with the base of the Jedi Order looming over them.

Cailen took in the lights and sounds of the underworld as he stepped down the street, trying to keep to himself as much as he could. He hadn't gone far enough to run into the really sketchy parts of Coruscant's lower levels, but he was still well out of his comfort zone. The last time he visited the lower levels, he'd witnessed a robbery at blaster-point. He was just a youngling then.

A lot had changed for him over the last four years, though. He had grown leaps and bounds in his skills, visiting new worlds and training with different Jedi orders all the while. And with the help of Valery Noble he'd even found some small but powerful ways to help mend his broken Force sensitivity. Even now, as he walked along through the lower levels, he could sense more than he had in almost a year.

Including the faint aura of someone he was supposed to meet. A fellow Padawan, with whom he was assigned this mission.

Cailen stepped cautiously toward her, hoping she'd notice him fully before he was suddenly upon her. He gave a friendly wave, then introduced himself.

"H-hi," he said with an awkward smile. "I'm Cailen. Are you Lily?"

She had to be. Everything about her matched the description he was given, but he still wanted to be sure it was her before he started asking about Jedi business. He didn't need the Force to sense that the underworld wasn't the safest place to discuss such things.

Lily spotted the other Padawan and gave a welcoming smile, something a bit warm and polite. She nodded her head as he asked if she was the person he was looking for, "Lily Decoria. Nice to meet you Cailen." Lily greeted in return as they stood in the lower levels of Coruscant. She placed her hands behind her against her lower back.

"Did you get a chance to look over the mission brief before coming down?" Lily asked curiously as she started walking in a direction. Whether she was walking in the correct direction or not was completely impossible for Lily to tell. She did not have a great sense of direction and was very lost. She unsure of what to do but walk around though since she believed that the two of them standing and talking would attract too much unwanted attention.

The idea of checking out the local cuisine crossed her mind, just take a look at what was available and seem interested while they talked. It would make others less interested in their conversation. At least, that was how Lily was seeing the situation. However, her skills as a spy and being stealthy were not the highest in the order.

Cailen nodded, chewing his lip as he followed Lily. He reviewed the mission brief before making the trip down from the Temple, but it was admittedly vague; Perhaps that was the point, to nudge the Padawans closer to more independent tasks without the guidance of their Masters. But even if that were the case, he’d still like to have a better idea of what they were truly up to down here.

He kept pace with Lily, trying to read the people they passed by and emulate their mannerisms to blend in. Whether it was working or not, he couldn’t tell.

“Where should we start?” he asked, glancing to her.

The underworld was so big, it would be impossible to work any mission without a strong lead.

"Well, the brief mentioned that there was spice smuggler working this area. Maybe we should keep a low profile and see if we can find the smuggler and track where their base of operations is?" Lily whispered in a low voice, not too sure

She wandered down the street, "how is your stealth skills? Mine aren't the best at the moment, but I am getting better at blending in more. Think the problem is that if we are spotted the smuggler will know the Jedi are onto them." It was a risk and if the smuggler figured that out then they might end up ditching the operation or relocating and the Order would have to start from scratch to find them again.

And Lily was not going to mess up another thing.

"If you think we could trail them without getting spotted then I say we do that, unless you got another idea?"

“A spice smuggler,” Cailen echoed quietly.

It was odd at first, but he understood the assignment’s discretion now. In League space, where he’d spent the better part of the last year, spice was a legal commodity; He’d forgotten its status in the GA entirely.

“I’m pretty light on my feet,” Cailen said after leaving his thoughts.

“Maybe you can be my overwatch?” He gestured to a series of maintenance catwalks that crisscrossed overhead, between buildings and such.

“I can trail him down here, and you could give me a bird’s eye view of the guy without him noticing.”
