Owned and run by enterprising mercenary and smuggler of some renown, Kainan Wolfe, W.D.B. was created to facilitate Wolfe's transactions with starship manufacturers. W.D.B. designs various starships, mostly for military use, then licenses out the actual production to larger Dominion companies who have the actual means to mass-produce them. Formally, W.D.B. is headquartered in a small apartment in the residential area of one of Ession's larger cities, but actual operations take place mostly aboard Wolfe's personal flagship, the light cruiser Final Verdict, where Wolfe and his team of engineers design the ships and build the prototypes (if they are small enough to be assembled inside the hangar of the ship, usually from whatever parts Wolfe and his crew can obtain). W.D.B. ship designs have a reputation for being cheap, affordable and reliable ships, which excel in the roles that they are designed to perform, although current designs perform poorly outside of their design specifications, being highly specialized designs. Current products are simple, entry-level designs meant to gain the company an entry into the market. There are plans for much more ambitious ship designs, in the future.
RATIONALE:
The company's founder, Kainan Wolfe, had a love of starships since a very young age. Having a talent for fixing things and figuring out how to jury-rig various components together in creative ways, in order to devise some clever workaround for some problem, it was only a matter of time until he turned his attention from fixing and modifying ships, to designing new ones.
Financed with money raised from Wolfe's more dubious occupations such as smuggling and mercenary work, W.D.B. is a very small company that has been founded as a legal front in order to tackle the paperwork of licensing out designs to manufacturers and it really serves as a means for Kainan Wolfe to pursue his ambitions to design ships for military use, while avoiding the corporate oversight and constrains that he would face if he signed up with a major corporation.
