Listening as most people introduced themselves and demonstrated where their interests laid, it was good to hear and Dreidi made mental notes of the names and intrigue that people held. She was going to make sure that she discussed the interests that people held and she was going to give them a chance to interact and discuss things. A pure lecture format seemed tiring for her as well as for the students to sit and learn.

There was some who held some understanding, another witch was surprising to see and had Dreidi a little intimidated since she was far from the most knowledgeable on the culture but she swallowed that feeling and pushed forward. She was here to teach and she was here to help others. "As mentioned, Dathomir does lean into a matriarchal society, however there is a patriarchal society as well. As stated by Maiev, different clans and groups on Dathomir hold varying beliefs and desires. Few have positive interactions with Jedi or Sith, we have had to fight both, we have tried working alongside both. The witches are also very protective of their artefacts and history, taking things away from Dathomir would not be something that would go down well, even if it was to help bring understanding." It was why Dreidi had to build the enclave she envisioned on Dathomir.

"I initially learned the ways of Magick from a Nightmother, a leader of the Nightsister clan, one that leans into what Jedi could consider the Dark Side. However, Dathomir Magick isn't so black and white. It isn't a power that can lead to corruption or the suffering of others, it is merely the user's actions that dictate whether they are using Magick for good or for harm." She snapped her fingers and green flames erupted in her palms, controlled and she moved the flames between her fingers as she paused for the moment before resuming her speech, "it is also our emotions that strengthen our connection, some use hate, anger, pain to fuel the fires within, others base their Magick on positive emotions, such as love, hope and happiness. The stronger the emotions are felt, the more intense the fire and our ability to use Magick."

Snuffing the flames out with a clenched fist, "there are limitations, just as with the Jedi, Sith and many others. Some witches have natural affinity for healing, others for combat, some have an affinity for powerful rituals. Each role has a place within a clan, and each clan has their place on Dathomir. The witches are usually female as well, this is why Dathomir has a matriarchal society, the strong tend to lead and Dathomir is a very unforgiving place. Weakness is not a path for survival."

Lifting herself on the table, she sat on the table and looked at the class, "any questions, don't be afraid to ask something about my personal experiences, a demonstration of something or just more generic question." She smiled to them all.

Great.... in her moment of trying to make friends, Voli forgot to introduce herself to the rest of the class. Why did Dredi had to make people talk about themselves? Voli was never an extroverted person although she was trying hard to break out of her shell. "But the shell makes me safe and comfortable," Voli thought glumly.

The young woman stood up and gulped before Dreidi began her lecture. "Oh yeah forgot to introduce myself," Voli said. "Name is Voli I was born on Denon, raised on Coruscant. Right now I'm a Padawan to Master Dreidi, the first person I met when I entered the Temple."

She could feel her cheeks heating up. Ugh! This is embarrassing! "I've learned a lot from my Master in my weeks being here," Voli said. "She'll teach you well!"

And with that Voli plopped herself on the seat trying to listen to Dreidi's lecture but all she heard was her heartbeat thumping against her chest. She would've been a terrible speaker. If Voli couldn't speak in sarcasm, she was shrieking violet and she despised it.

Efret frowned a bit before her face returned to a neutral, listening state. "Weakness is not a path for survival," stuck her. Disability was considered weakness by many of the galaxy's known cultures, even in ones that were classified as advanced social and technologically, and Deafness was often included in perceptions of disability. This prejudice persisted in societies that had moved past explicit expressions of it. Through decades of anthropological immersion training, she had learned to be both quite culturally competent and tolerant, but she still found it hard to be fully accepting of any culture that didn't believe in allowing space to people like her who were living deviations from the normative mode of physical ability.

Or of mental ability as well.

Efret had learned to deal with this deep discomfort over a slightly shorter period of time by compartmentalizing, focusing on the other aspects of a culture, and honoring those. It wasn't a perfect system, as she wasn't a perfect practitioner, but it was a system she tried to follow with grace and contentment.

Maybe the Nighsisters didn't define weakness in such a way. In either case, Efret was sensitive to the possibility. She voiced another question; maybe she'd bring her first thought to Dreidi in a more private setting, but also perhaps she wouldn't.

"I'll start us off, if I could.

"You say that magick leads to what Jedi consider the Dark side. The difference between the Light and Dark sides as Jedi understand it is based first and foremost in how the Force is channeled, not how it's used, though that's also important. Light siders ask the Force for consent before tapping into It, whereas Dark siders bend It to their will. Which method does magick tend to follow, or it there another option?"
