    ECHOES OF A CURATOR

Corruption has not stripped away her warmth; it has weaponized it. Efret remains a passionate educator and researcher, but she has now embraced the darker side of the maternal mantle as well. She nurtures growth through hardship, believing that a mentor's truest kindness is preparing their student for a cruel galaxy.

    INDECISIVE EMPATH

Efret's high level of cultural competency, paired with an innate ability to understand multifaceted issues, often leaves her unsettled and ambivalent. This quality was the catalyst for her descent. As she was ultimately unable to reconcile the contradictions of the Light, she found a terrible kind of clarity in the Dark.

    kXioaVn.png

    CALCINATION OF SELF
Some things are better when they break you.
Not for the hurt, but the breakthrough.

    IN-SITU TRANSFORMATION

Efret may have eventually left Naboo, where she was living before joining the Covenant, but that was not the moment of her fall. In fact, there was none. Her transition was an in-situ realization that began years prior, even as she sat upon the New Jedi Order's Council.

    AMOR FATI

The culmination of her life's many tragedies has taught Efret that grief is the galaxy's greatest giver. Though she still feels undeniable sorrow for her past—both the things she's done and the things that have happened to her—she is deeply grateful for the catharsis that they've orchestrated for her.

    kXioaVn.png

    RETRIBUTION FOR THE WRONGED
    I'm already under your skin
'Cause I'm the big bad wolf, now let the games begin.

    AN ARCHEOLOGIST'S JUSTICE

Efret views the harm done to the Sith by the Jedi as an irrevocable cultural crime. Knowing her complicity, she has dedicated herself to making amends. She will do anything for their people and culture now—from repatriation of artifacts, to sharing traitorous insights, to destroying any Jedi who refuses to see the damage their Order has caused. They shall pay either way: with a pound of flesh or a changed mind.

    CONFUSED CULTURAL RELATIVISM

The central tenet of Efret's archeologic and ethnographical practices was the presupposition that no culture was morally superior to any others. While a Jedi, their dogma restricted her tendency to tolerate and understand the Sith on their own merits. Now, freed from those religious constraints, she sees the Sith through her own lens. Though she means well, her pursuit of objectivity has turned her into a dangerous enabler: an apologist who justifies the darkness as a simple matter of cultural perspective.

  • Efret is a master and an acolyte simultaneously. As a Jedi, she preferred to reach for a trowel over her lightsaber; yet, when war came with the Dark Empire, she leaned into Force use rather than the blade.

Now as a new addition to the Sith Covenant, she utilizes her extensive command of the Force for an awful new purpose—except she understands it as righteous. While she remains hesitant to reach for her saber, her combative tendency may yet shift to a more balanced approach with the guidance of her new fellows.

But regardless, she is new to the world of Bogan. In the exploration of the Dark side, she is but an acolyte.

While Efret's talent is undeniable, her powers are strictly bound by the toll they can take on her mind and body when pushed to the extreme.

    DrawbackDescription
Cognitive loadShe cannot utilize other complex powers while using Force Sight; to strike with the Force, she must momentarily surrender her augmented sight, relying on instinct and/or her fractured physical vision to navigate her environment.
Physical decayProlonged use of Force Sight triggers progressive physical breakdown. The first stage brings agonizing headaches and extreme exhaustion. After comes hemorrhaging from the eyes. Extended exertion causes vivid, destabilizing hallucinations that blur the line between the battlefield and her deepest traumas, risking permanent chronic damage to her mind and the rest of her body.

  • Thank you for reading through Efret's profile!

I'm always looking for complex, character-driven stories—whether you're a Jedi looking for a lost friend or a Sith who might be a new friend.

My DMs are always open, either here on-site or through Discord at shmaaandy.

It's very important to me to write as respectful and accurate of a Deafblind experience as I can. Here's a few more things to keep in mind out-of-character to that end.

    SENSORY BOUNDARIES

While she can "listen" through the Force, she rarely does so as spoken language lacks inherent meaning to her, and can also be overstimulating. Consequently, she will not know if a character outside her field of view is speaking to her.

    UNDERSTANDING SPOKEN SPEECH

She can understand spoken words through a combination of Comprehend Speech and lipreading, but this requires direct visual contact with the target.

    HER LINGUISTICS

I write GBSL using a grammar structure inspired by that of American Sign Language. This reflects a visual-spatial syntax rather than standard Basic word order.

*** This includes those physically in the room with her or the voices of the damned captured in her necklace of the same name.
**** Though typically a nonspeaking character, she can use her voice. She can also learn words through Force Listening and/or feeling how others produce a given word. When she does speak, her voice sounds like Marlee Matlin.

Please reach out if you're even confused during an interaction with Efret!
