Public Why does no one respond to my threads!???

Ok so I have been trying to get an rp going for like a month and not a single person has responded to one of the four threads I have started since the beginning of school, and honestly, its getting really annoying. I have only been playing since April, and I did stop over the summer, so I might not be familiar with all the rules yet. Is it usually hard to get a roleplay started if I'm not a well known member or something? Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? If you look up my threads, you'll see what I mean.

I don't know!

Could be the ideas you're pitching. From what I saw, it looked like you are interested in writing during a time period different from the main chaos canon. That does create a barrier as it forces people to either make new characters or determine a reason their existing character is there.

I see you're using a Lego avatar. Some people might be put off by that. Have you thought about some aesthetic changes? Also, do you have a bio for your character? I'm not seeing a link attached.

Those things might help capture the interest of other writers, too.

Either way, shoot me a DM if you'd like. Maybe I can help you get some stuff rolling here. I know it sucks when folks aren't interested in writing with you.

Echoing a lot of the advice above. I see you want stories that take place wildly outside the Chaos timeline. Not a lot of people probably have a reason to even be there. Then you got a lot of rules in place that could also be off putting. Seems real fan fiction-y (which is great, who doesnt love fan fic) but not really tied to stuff going on here.

You seem young. I started Star Wars RP at age thirteen so I've been there. Its a great hobby.

My DMs and Discord is open if you want old lady advice or ideas.

I'll be honest, the Lego avatar does not really inspire me or make me feel immersed, so I would probably be less inclined to respond IC to something with that kind of profile picture.

I also do not see a character sheet or clear reference to your character(s)???.

Is the Lego image meant to represent one of them? From a glance, it is hard to tell what your character or characters might be, and that context can make a big difference. Having a clear sheet or visual reference usually helps others connect more easily with what you are bringing to the table.

It might sound superficial, but a lot of folks make judgments on the "cover" at first glance. Presentation goes a long way toward drawing people in.

If you are interested in telling me what kind of RP you are looking to do I can perhaps offer some suggestions, advice, or even help if you want it.

A lot of the sentiments being said here are what I would echo.

  • Change your profile picture. Make it represent the character. Look on Google or Pinterest to find art.
  • Try to start a simple thread where your character is in this timeline. Example: just start a thread that says your character walks into a cantina and wait and see who responds.
  • This is not a fan fiction site. This is a roleplaying forum. Maybe look up some of the threads others are telling to see how stories are generally told here

I am also available to chat if you want more advice. Everyone is friendly but you have to assimilate into the culture a bit.

A lot of others have already pitched their advice, and a lot of it I agree with, but I'd also like to add:
  • Jump into a Major or Minor Faction, talk to their members and get involved in some of their current timeline threads.
The Factions are, in my opinion, the easiest way for new members to get involved, as you're able to jump into a group that's already established, and their members will welcome new people openly. Every faction wants more members, more stories and characters who vibe with them. Faction Staff can help with advice if you struggle to fit the mould, but members in general discuss ideas and brainstorm new threads, which will be helpful for you to become familiar with the current timeline and who's who in the Galaxy.

I'll try to hit this point by point from my perspective, I'm sure I'm probably not alone but keep in mind this is just what I think and not necessarily the same with everyone else:
  1. I'll be honest, I only saw your recent LFG thread about a fanmade time period so maybe you just aren't getting seen as much (I found more after searching from your profile but just an honest thought that maybe they went under the radar because of the time of day you posted or how much you tried to get people involved).
  2. Piggy-backing on #1, non-canon threads aren't exactly popular because they have no lasting stakes for people who also write with other people in the main continuity and also require people to divert their attention from other threads that do impact their character in the canon timeline/universe/whatever-you-want-to-call-it and away from people who have no interest in those kinds of threads. If the idea is interesting enough you might get some degree of interest but participation is always going to be sparse in these kinds of things because people aren't always capable of writing in every thread all the time and are usually operating on writing at what they already feel they are comfortable with (their limit, basically).
  3. While I don't think the rules are necessarily stopping you from getting people to write with you, you may want to do that as we do mandate character bio threads (a post that gives some basic info on your character, we have a template that lists the minimum amount of information that you must provide for your character in that post) and not having a bio linked to your character (which you can link via your account settings) may deter people further because it takes a bit more effort to find a possible bio without a hyperlink that they might not want to spend.
  4. I don't think there's necessarily a problem with your avatar (as long as your character is meant to look relatively similar to what your lego image is meant to represent), at least for me personally, but your account name is supposed to be your character's name or alias, so with no context and just seeing a LFG thread or possibly RP thread posted with your account name it doesn't read like a real thread so people either might not want to engage or (in my case) it looks like you aren't actually invested in the site and are liable to drop a hypothetical thread (stop responding). This is purely just judging a book by its cover/first impression, and I don't know how to phrase that any nicer (I'm not trying to be mean, to be clear), but while I don't think each individual aspect of how a person's account "looks" (avatar, having a "1" or other numeral in the name, etc) really matters that much on its own I think the sum of all of those parts creates an impression that turns people away at first glance.
  5. Being a new member certainly influences some people's views but it has most to do with account activity, like if someone joined a year ago but only has 4-5 posts total across that time and is looking for a thread people might be afraid that they could get invested in a storyline only for that person to stop logging in/responding for weeks/months at a time. If someone joined a week ago there's a similar concern, that the person might decide this isn't for them, but it's a bit more understandable in that case (I've certainly met a fair amount of people who try to refrain from posting with especially new people, like a few days/weeks old, outside of larger public threads though for that reason). Either of these things doesn't matter to me, but I know I've faced obstacles because of both of these (when I was new and after returning after a long break from the forum. I also have a pretty bad reputation about taking random periods of time off because of IRL things with relatively short notice, so this is, again, more of just my POV and probably would be different in terms of leniency in other people's case).
All-in-all, while we might be a roleplaying forum that is (obviously) a fan fiction site, almost everyone on this website adheres to a singular main continuity (single timeline, universe, etc) that acts as an unified canon for the website (see: timeline in the Articles dropdown for the barebones skeleton) and don't venture into alt-timelines and the like except in very rare cases that are typically linked to the main continuity anyways by site-wide events. You won't typically see other timelines and such explored, and you won't normally see people writing outside of the current year we go by.

Do you have a discord? That might help too if you can chat with people and let them get to know you. It’s not mandatory but it helped me find a few friends :)
I agree, it helped me a lot. and most people are very understanding once you reach out to them, I haven't really met anyone who was rude, but that doesn't mean they aren't out there, but definetly shoot kyric a DM, he helped me a lot. he is a good guy

Echoing what people said about Discord, at least for the start. It just makes it easier.

I also humbly disagree with the comments about your avatar. The lego is fine, though it could do with a sharper image. There were many years during which people with anime'esque avatars were looked down on. Then when AI art was looked down on. You do you.

For the writing, I do have one huge thing to recommend. Forum-RP is a collaborative effort. What you write is essentially your business card. That is what people see when they click. If people as a whole don't respond to it, there are probably reasons. Mine are that what you've proposed thus just isn't my cup of coffee, and that's okay.

But a great way to increase your odds is to step out of Main Character Syndrome[tm] for a moment, and join what other people/factions have. Build initial connections through that, and then when it naturally expands, you can bring interest back to your OG idea. This is not a diss in any way. Many of us have gone through that path and it usually leads to great storytelling.

I would mostly echo the others. The avatarr is go for what makes you happy but having looked at your previous LFG's I can say this. One is being part of your fan fic you have already written or have the restriction it can't start until the world is approved. The pre-codex is great for building but it doesn't count. You would have to submit it to the codex proper for Srina and her team to review. So biggest problem there is you proposed a scenario, asked for the people. If people joined they were going to have to wait x amount of time for the conditions to be met which means interest could wane, or things could happen in their lives that takes them away. A fan fiction being the basis for the character isn't a problem but wanting the people to be characters in it where it is more pre-determined can be restrictive and making new characters for a niche isn't always good.

I would recommend have fun. join some public threads or a faction, major or minor. Scherezade deWinter Scherezade deWinter makes some public threads that are usually built around random people showing up into an area. The classic cantina is always good.
