Why cant Alchemy and Technology mix?

To clarify: They do. You just do it differently than you would with just adding tech. Alchemy requires a bit of a different thought process behind it, and some backwards thinking sometimes. Alchemy can be used on lightsaber crystals to the same effects of sith swords.. the thing is that a lightsaber doesn't really need it. As far as the rest of tech goes, please explain what you mean.

Right, and my Jedi who does Light alchemy (Alkahest) has been combining it with mechanical processes too.

After all, tech beasts are pretty much alchemy and technology merged.

It can be done, but many suggest it should not be done because it can be very gamey.

You would have to engineer the technology so that alchemy would actually do something. I mean, I suppose you could keep it hidden from sensors and force users by burying its presence in the force and other stuff (you can actually place a semi-permanent or permanent force ability on the item with alchemy, it isn't limited to physical and cosmetic goodies.) but you won't likely be making a shield generator that is.. Actually I just had an idea on converting the force into a power source... But it wouldn't be practical above an unique item.

To understand this, alchemy has very set-in-stone principles of use. I suggest looking through all the alchemy subs that have been approved before you seek out doing something crazy, like a dark-side powered energy shield or something. Everything with alchemy is a lot more complicated than simply making it do something, technology is a lot less complex in that regard. I could put a power supply into a shield generator and be done with it, or I could get a force crystal or something, make a special receptor that takes in electricity, and go through a bunch of steps and jump through a bunch of hoops to make that force crystal project electricity while in proximity to the force or something.

It all boils down to: Which is more practical in writing a submission?

Dude. It's the Factory. You can do anything you want.

You can alchemy up some Beskar so it glows purple and absorbs solar radiation to power it's very own jetpack. You can build a Tank from vong crabs and have it shoot magma lasers from it's elbows. Heck, you can even build a Shard Body that looks exactly like Darth Maul and has pink tattoos made of Phirk in the shape of phallic symbols. Then! You can alchemy that entire body so it sparkles of rainbows and farts holographic unicorns.

Go nuts. :D :p

SW answer.....if it can be done.....it can be done with a dev thread

Pagan answer: Meet me on Samhain and I'll be gladly explain the difference between Alchemy and herbalsim. Hint hint....Skyrim taught the wrong skill.

So much TLDR. @w@

My short answer was gonna be this: I think you're confusing alchemy with Vong stuff. Vong stuff can't be mixed with tech. To what extent, I'm not sure, as I've had things as utterly simple as growing a biot around a plain steel-bar frame denied as "tech" (I won't get into that though because I'll rant).

When it comes to alchemy and tech, there's actually a pretty fair deal that can be done -- especially with lightsabers, as I have several and they barely scratch the surface of the possibilities -- it's just that nobody has done it yet. Usually there are just easier conventional solutions that don't require nearly the amount of work or forethought.

I've never actually seen anybody say not to or deny such on concept.

There is no such thing as "can't" when it comes to Sith Alchemy. There are limitations on Je'daii alchemy. I am unfamiliar with Jedi alchemy, so I won't comment on it (if it even exists).

Once, I created a crystal that was capable of disrupting hyperspace, once it was fit into the Azari Device and the collaborations were done correctly. This was on a different board though and it is unlikely to pass the criteria of the factory due the complexity that comes with hyperspace, as well as the fact that the board is limited on superweapons.

I'd say the only limitations on Sith Alchemy is OOC. Other than that, you can go nuts. Trust me, I'm a Sith Alchemist.
