Ever since Kyyrk had to step down, the Knights Obsidian of the Confederacy of Independent Systems hasn't really had a dedicated armorer. Plenty of existing designs fit very well into your proposed character's wheel house, and knowing that those are the strengths to play to would likely only increase that.
