He hadn't been the greatest of company as the Je'daii-issued ship made its way through the Outer Rim and into the Meissa System. In fact one might argue that Beren Vas had been actively avoiding the company of those he was journeying alongside. For him this was to be a homecoming, a return to the world wherein he had first been borne, yet had little recollection of, but there was little jubilation to be noted surrounding him. He simply sat within a seat, away from the others, and watched as his little tooke companion hopped from hand to outstretched hand. Here and there he spoke to it, though the tone was hushed enough that the words themselves went a little unheard.
Still, as the vessel broke through atmosphere and descended to Aurum proper he seemed to come alive once more. He rose up from his seat when they touched down amidst the dense, humid landscape, and carefully deposited the tooke into one of his pockets where it happily remained, large bulbous eyes peeking out over the folds of fabric it was nestled within. He even approached the other Je'daii who were gathered, though he halted short of coming into reach of either.
The boarding ramp lowered with a hiss of released air, and the humidity hit them almost immediately. It was warm here, a tropical rainforest for the most part, and they had landed in the height of summer. Arguably the better time to see the vast richness of native flora and fauna available, though it would be a rather unpleasant experience for any not used to such a climate.
He exited without a word, though he took care to pause and glance back at his would-be companions all the same. Just to make sure they were coming too. This was to be an explorative venture, there was still much of this world that was unknown and unexplored. So many species to unearth. Planets such as these, with similar climates, always held the most intriguing of species, and he hoped, he sincerely hoped, that they could discover something new.
"We should set up a camp..." He spoke without uncertainty, as though this was simply the way of it, though his tone itself was timid in a juxtaposing fashion. Like he didn't rightly wish to take control of the situation at all. Nor should he. This held potential to be a group trial if they were successful, and if those gathered willed it. It only stood to reason then that they each had an equal voice in how things played out...
// Any Je'daii welcome - This is effectively a group Anil Kesh (Science) Trial for the Great Journey //

Varloc slowly walked down the ramp, he took a moment to take in the planet, it was a truly great sight. Varloc was able to take in mountain's, some forest and the small open area of where they had landed. The sky was partly cloudy, with a small storm building to the east. The world was full of possibility, a fine place to go complete Anil Kesh.

Varloc looked at Beren as he spoke, he was eager to to be here. Beren spoke quietly, Varloc was barely able to hear him, but he made out that Beren suggested to setup a camp. Varloc nodded and said.
Yes, we should. Though not here, most animals will be in the forests and jungles. Our ship may scare them away as well. We should take supplies up there. He pointed to a small hill, it was surrounded by jungle at its feet and it would serve a fine place to see all about the surrounding area. He then faced the gathering clouds. Though let us move quickly.

Raarpaa exited the ship that had brought her to Aurum. She had been tasked with introducing ten Felucian Dread Beetles to the planet in an effort to bolster their numbers and help prevent their extinction. Of course, due to the large size of the beetles and the small stature of the Ewok, the Je'daii couldn't bring all of the beetles out of the ship at once. She definitely needed help.

He was grateful indeed that another was willing to take charge too. One of his Je'daii companions, a man he knew by sight alone, suggested that they bring some supplies to the crest of a hill which would overlook some of the surrounding jungles. That seemed prudent and wise, so he nodded his head and began to heft a pack to his shoulders. He was about to pick up something else, a small box that contained a few essentials, when he noticed the Ewok struggling to wrangle some beetles.
Well he said some beetles. But in truth they were the strangest, most giantest beetles Beren had ever before seen. His jaw almost dropped at the sight of them.
Though he wasn't usually one to purposely engage first, this time he did walk toward her, closer than he would any other, and offered out his free hand to take up one of the critters. "I should like to help the beetles," he informed her, perhaps strange given that it was the ewok herself that required the assistance. All he saw though were those majestic insects.
Provided she allowed his aid, he'd carry as many as he could. The ship held a hoversled which could be helpful for moving some of the other supplies if needs be. It wasn't even as though they had brought that much, just the basics, but who knew how long they'd choose to spend here. It was an entire world for their exploration, and that could take weeks...
Regardless when the beetles were sorted he would head out with the others, toward the crest of that great hill.

Varloc grabbed a medical bag and put it on the sled, he had already gathered a few tents, multiple recordings devices, lights, food, water, and a few other pieces of equipment. Varloc looked up to see the others wrestling the beetles that were stowed in the ship. He then grabbed another bag, full of tracking tags, he brought them with in case, but maybe they would be able to attach one to a animal and look into the creatures behavioral actions.

As Varloc put away the last of the supplies the skies released a rumble, he looked up to see the clouds over them, and coming close to turning the sky into a grey quilt. As the first rain came down and quickly turned heavy Varloc reached out and created a energy field that kept the rain off the group. As he kept up the umbrella of sorts he spoke to his companions.
Do you have everything?

Varloc's personality was usually quiet, he tended to stay out of most social situations. In a leadership role he seemed to come out of it and he tended to be much more open to others. But he would always be professional to the end, his military officer background reinforced this and led to his absolute discipline when it came to a leading role.

"It's okay," he said, as the ewok warned him of the potency of their venom, glancing over them as they roamed up his arm and one settled upon his shoulder rather soundly, all things considered, "They won't harm me."
Again, another statement said with a calm certainty. There was no doubt in his mind that the beetles would simply settle down, that he would not be bitten. And they seemed to prove him right too. The man exuded a certain tranquil placidity which settled over them as they walked, eased them into a peaceful state.
He nodded toward Varloc Varloc as he asked if they had everything, glanced at the ewok quickly to check they had what they needed, though did not look at the face of her at all in fact quite obviously avoided it, and the others', and then onward they went.
Their hike was not too long, though as they reached the edge of the jungle and began their ascension their progress definitely slowed. There was much in the way for the sled too, thickets and vines which had to be cut away so that they could proceed unhindered. To this end Beren's green lightsaber, among those belonging to the others, saw much usage.
Up to the crest of the hill they climbed, and provided nothing of interest happened between then they reached the top and were greeted with a wonderful view as the sun began to dip low on the horizon, and the sky was cast with a whole multitude of colours.
"It will be dark soon," he stated, settling down the supplies he was carrying and searching for a place to deposit the beetles until they were ready to be released. They needed to set up the camp, before they found themselves alone with the elements in the dark.

Varloc immediately went to work, he first put up a few tents. Three were put up, a large one for the group to stay in, another for supply storage and one to keep the beetles contained. Varloc found that the tents could be put up fairly quickly and they were quickly filled. Before they knew it a dark blanket descended upon the land, the soft outline of the trees surrounding the camp could barely be seen.

Once the group was done making the camp Varloc informed the group he would take a quick night trip into the wood. He picked up a few sensors and cameras to set up around the nearby trees. He set out and headed north a bit, after a half a hour and after setting two cameras he found a small pool. It was no more than forty feet wide, he guessed it was deep as he peered into the dark waters surface, as the rain sent ripples over it. Varloc looked up as water came down bouncing off his helm and falling down his cloak.

After standing there for a moment he sensed something to his left, he looked off into the trees to his side. The dark woods gave no clue of what it was, Varloc closed his eyes and opened up his senses, it was large, over ten feet long. It crept slowly just forty nine feet away, Varloc crouched and put a sensor on a near by rock, it had a night vision camera, he hoped he would then he able to see what it was. But just as he set it up the creature seemed to take it as a good time to leave.

Varloc stood and looked back twords the camp, at a split second decision he decided to follow the beast. The last thing that could be seen from the pond of him was his cloak as he carefully followed the animal.

Together with the others they had the tents up in no time, and the beetles were secured a holding area until Raarpaa Zerlac Raarpaa Zerlac decided what it was she wished to do with them. They were a rather quiet group all things considered, none really spoke without true prompting, there was little in the way of small talk.
That did not bother Beren. And he didn't really know if it bothered the others. He didn't pay it much heed.
While Varloc Varloc ventured out into the unknown, the Kiffar set about work on making a rudimentary dinner. They had been busy all day, worked up quite the appetite. He was no chef though, and out here in the wilds it was even harder than it would usually be to cook something great. Good, then, or okay. He'd be fine with either one.
Time ticked on though, he and the Ewok and any others with them ate their portions, and still the masked man did not return. Surely he could handle himself. He looked as though he could handle himself.
He decided to give it a little while longer. If no sign of the man presented itself perhaps he'd have to go and follow his trail...

Varloc ventured deeper into the thick trees, following the imprint that the beast left behind. He had been following it for a while now, no more than a hour, but now he could tell it was slowing. The imprint have became more defined, a sign that the animal was taking slower steps. He doubted the creature was tiring, but perhaps approaching its territory.

Varloc suddenly stopped, he now sensed the beast. It had slowed to almost a stand still, it was just under a few hundred feet way. Varloc took out the camera and placed it upon the nearest tree facing the creatures way.

Varloc took a step back and stared at where the creature was. The rain, continuing to come down made a soft sound on his cloak. The two beings simply stood there, gazing at eachother. They seemed to come to a understanding for at the same time they turned and went the other way. The beast under a nearby tree, Varloc back to the camp.

Varloc would retrieve the cam in a couple of days, he would see whether or not that was its permanent home, or just a temporary one. He could also learn its daily routine.

Small talk had never been Beren's strong suit.
Even so, it was better than worrying over the fate of their masked companion. He didn't feel any real disturbances in the Force, so he trusted for now that Varloc Varloc was okay and instead turned his attention to the Ewok.
Raarpaa Zerlac Raarpaa Zerlac was their name. An interesting one to be sure. He wasn't so sure he'd ever really interacted with an Ewok before... Perhaps Raar was new. Or perhaps, like he, she'd journeyed from afar to join the new sect. Beren too had been trained separately from this new group. He didn't know much about anyone who was part of it.
Maybe he should try...
Though small talk had never been his strong suit.
"Raarpaa," he said, in an attempt to set the name to memory, not that such was difficult, he had quite the astounding memory, "I am Beren. Have you been with the Je'daii long, Raarpaa?"
His eyes drifted back toward the way in which Varloc had left. With any luck he'd return soon enough.

Varloc marched through the pitch black wood. The non stop downpour continued, its hitting of the ground was rather rhythmic, a enjoyable noise for Varloc.

Along the way Varloc ran into a few planets which took his attention, he would return tomorrow to collect data. He also noticed the many hanging plants, that came down from the high branches like tendrils from a great beast. Some other plants, like the multiple ferns and small trees, even the occasional one bearing a fruit.

Varloc looked ahead to see the soft glow of their camp above him. He trudged up the hill on the path he traveled earlier that night. He looked about to see the two others sitting in their camp.

Varloc did not wish to bring his dripping wet clothes into their dry home under their tarps. He used a small amount of force energy to be created in his hands and used it by expanding it. Targeting the small water molecules he released it, the excess water simply disappeared as it was sent in different directions. He made sure he was far enough back to not soak his companions.

Varloc walked into the proper camp and put down the other technical equipment he had with him in a storage tent. He then walked to the edge of the covering that was set and peered into the dark.
