Public Where the Forest Keeps Its Secrets

image_fx_107__by_paladad_of_light_dk90waa-pre.jpg

After the fall of the Core Worlds, many Younglings and Padawans were quietly relocated to the Jedi Temple Academy on the remote world of Veridia. Tucked far from the eyes of the war-torn galactic center, Veridia became a sanctuary for Jedi and for the young hope.

Among the new arrivals was 0-7 0-7 , whose transfer was arranged at the behest of Aether of the Iron Order Aether of the Iron Order . Roten Roten , and Jackie Rosso Jackie Rosso , with the blessing of Matthew of Valendale Matthew of Valendale .

The temple grounds were vast, serene, and steeped in mystical force energy. Beyond the protective walls, the Veridian wilds stretched untamed in thick forests, misty cliffs, and uncharted ruins that held stories of a forgotten past. It was here, at the edge of civilization and myth, that the next generation of Jedi would feel a faint inkling of the Force almost calling them out in to the deeper wood.

Tython being lost probably should have affected Seven more. She had only just got there and already it was a sanctuary ripped away from her. The sad truth was that she was used to these sorts of things. It wasn't exactly a shock that somewhere that seemed safe actually wasn't. She wasn't really in a position to protest being moved somewhere else though. All things considered Seven didn't exactly wish to be found by Kalrath's agents. She wasn't anything special, but she did want to live.

Or something plugged into her told her she wanted to live. She wasn't really sure. So here she was, on a planet tucked so far away you had to jump through cosmic hoops to even get to it. It was... nice. Somewhere she could just disappear. At least she'd like to, but people seemed real intent on keeping tabs on her and socializing. These Jedi characters were far too charitable for their own good. They didn't seem to process or care that they probably weren't doing anything important in regards to her. The galaxy wouldn't change if she was around or not. Yet the all seemed to be this way. Braze was literally being held captive by some force yet he still made a decision to give her an out that wasn't some merciful death. It perplexed her to no end. Seven hadn't been brought up in a manner that let her comprehend all of it.

What's worse was that Roten boy was here, the son of that Bursantian pirate woman Kalrath had briefly trained. He had been taken by Jedi a year ago now, apparently they had a thing for picking up the rejected pet projects of Sith. She didn't hate him, but he wasn't exactly fond of her. Roten wanted Kalrath to train him. It was only natural that when he was rejected he'd see her as the favorite one.

He got lucky. Being the favorite was a living nightmare.

Seven wasn't settling in well, but the gardens were nice at least. She had actually grown quite fond of meditation. It was about the only thing that soothed her soul these days. So she had found herself a comfortable nook under a tree and between some bushes to hide herself away to get some alone and quiet time.

The small monster had been relocated to Veridia as well, much to the dismay of the temple's caretakers and the subtle amusement of those who knew better. He was scrappy, sharp-toothed, and full of boundless curiosity, forever snuffling into places he didn't belong and vanishing into vents, laundry piles, or ceiling beams when scolded.

Today, though, something new had caught his attention. A scent that was strange and un-familiar... something other. His nose twitched.

It was 0-7 0-7 !

So, naturally, he moved closer...Silently.... A colorful blur of motion stalking through bushes, under benches, and behind trees...

Closer… closer…

POUNCE!

He launched himself through the air like a missile aimed directly for Seven's back.

Seven had very good instincts. Unlike when she was frustrated by Braze, she had much better control over her senses while calm. The young woman simply rotated her torso, put up her hand, and gently grabbed the Togruta's forehead, stopping his pounce dead in it's tracks.

"Do you mind?" Seven asked with a sigh.

She didn't really wanna be bothered at the moment.

Snapping jaws and pawing claws reached out in reply. If Seven wasn't careful, she might get scratched! Or worse, bitten! Who knew if this wild thing had space rabies?

Then, just like that, he yanked back and vanished in a blur. One second he was there, the next… he was gone.

Where had that little creature run off to?

A few falling colorful petals fluttered down from the branches above, suspiciously out of place.

He was up there.... just dangling upside down from a thick limb, staring straight down at her with wide eyes and a toothy fang-toothed grin, swaying slightly like he was proud of himself.

"You're slow, but you smell nice~"

"You're slow, but you smell nice~"

"I felt where you went," Seven sighed. "I just don't want to chase you. And... don't talk about how I smell."

A sigh escaped her chest as she tried to refocus on meditation. Her hand had been firmly on his forehead, so she hadn't been bit. Not that it would have hurt her. Her pain receptors were still being repressed. It wasn't exactly working what with the strange feral child that suddenly appeared. There went her relaxation.

"I'm not very interesting," Seven expressed. "You will become bored very quickly."

"Well, you can stay here and be boring…" he huffed, tail twitching as he dangled from the branch. "I'm gonna go find the shiny rocks in the woods."

And just like that, he dropped to the ground with a soft thump and started off at a brisk trot, not even looking back as he scuttled off.

If she wanted to be a no-fun, stick-in-the-mud grump and mutter about how 'uninteresting' she was, then fiiiiiiiine. She could stay there, sulking like an old tree stump. He had better things to do!

Certainly, a speedy little creature like him wouldn't get eaten by a giant bear or any other large, apex carnivore that just so happened to wander the untamed wilderness beyond the temple walls. You know, the ones they were all specifically told not to leave unless they had a buddy and informed the responsible adults first.

Nah. He'd be fine.

Probably.

"I'm gonna go find the shiny rocks in the woods."

One of Seven's eyes popped open after hearing that.

"Hey, you're going to get in trouble if you do that!" she called out, but it was far too late. He was already well on his way.

The former assassin grumbled to herself for a moment. If she didn't go after this kid and something ate him out there she was definitely going to be the one who took the blame. She wasn't exactly eager to be seen as trouble, more so than people likely already saw her anyways. Seven felt weird about the kindness, but she didn't want it to go away either. So, reluctantly, she got to her feet and began to pursue the boy, following his signature in the Force...

Beyond the open gates, the forests of Veridia stretched wide in a vibrant emerald sea splashed with thick scatterings of flowering meadows. Gentle winds stirred the tall grass and sent waves through the foliage.

Somewhere beyond the low, grassy berms, the underbrush rustled faintly.

It seemed the small purple Togruta had already scampered off into the thickets, vanishing like the breeze into the dense green. Only the faint shifting leaves betrayed his path.

"Hey, kid!"

Seven sighed, slowing her pace down. Her reflexes were extremely fast, but the raw speed he had was just a lot more than she had in the tank. The wind moved through this place in a peculiar way, and it was all...

It was comforting, at that put Seven on edge.

"Would... you come back here?" she called out. "I... don't wanna get in trouble..."

Kai'yn popped out of a bush, briefly looking at her and flashing a knowing, devious grin, then he bounded off further into the dense forest ahead. He was incredibly fast on his own, moving far quicker than something bipedal his size should've been able to.
He didn't stop until he stumbled into a clearing, quite a distance later, and came across something... odd.

There, standing tall in the center, was a massive tree. Everything in the surrounding area felt unusually serene. The tree didn't look like most others; this one was practically glowing, faint like a night light, casting a gentle shimmer over the grass and flowers beneath.

The little Togruta stood there in shock and awe, eyes wide as he stared up at it.
