When you want to be creative, but you don’t have money

So, pretty much. I’m really tired of looking at my dull and static avatars/sigs compared to those nice and shiny ones, problem is I can’t really go anything with photoshop.

So the proper question is: does anyone know any good free alternatives for creating gif Avatars/Sigs? Or a list of them would be even better

If you want to play with some image work yourself, you can try paint.net as a free alternative (not nearly all the bells and whistles, and you can't do moving gifs), or ez gif for a free gif editor. Won't get you some of the amazing stuff you see that came from a couple super talented members (who have put A LOT of time and effort in), but it's a good place to get started!
