When the Bough Breaks...

I thought I was sheltered. These kids are delusional.

Military not engaging in torture? Yeah right. Despite his height the Heavenshield boy must be younger than her or just a little more innocent than she first thought. Just because someone said 'no torture' didn't mean it wasn't happening behind the scenes. Maybe she was simply too much of a realist. Probably wasn't a good thing for someone her age to be.

Scowl remained on her face as the Pantoran talked. The only thing most companies cared about were credits. Yep...there was her realist side coming out again. Honestly, Norah tried to be a good kid. Today she was tired, hungry and irritated and it was wearing down on her patience faster than she realized.

Arms crossed as she looked at the two formulating their plan. Idiots. Don't come crying to her when they both winded up toenail-less and in a cold cell. It seemed their minds were made up so she remained quiet, moving to the viewport and laying her head against it, staring out at the black.

Well there went Théo's idea! In fact all the ideas sucked, but Boo's was the best one. More practical. And might actually work. "Alright we try that, when we get to Voss, and they realise we are not a pack of pirates or Primes or have blasters pointed at our heads, I will find someone that knows me and will vouch for me. That is if my parents are away .. ".

"Boo?, what is that thing? and why is it around your body?", Théo pointed to the serpent, only to pull his finger back when a forked tongue flicked out. Well he knew what is was, seen plenty on Tabaqui, in the jungles.

"... and when was the last time you fed it?".

At this point, Théo heard wimpering back up the corridor, and walking toward them are two children, a boy and a girl comforting one another. "Hey, what's the matter?", he asked moving to the door way of the cockpit.

"We are hungry and .. scared".

It was time to put the autochef into overdrive.

Norah wasn't happy with their situation.

That was fair. Neither was Boo. But what either of the younglings wanted wasn't at issue. What was important was that the younglings were returned to Voss safely. Theo, at least, seemed to appreciate the situation for what it was. Still, even as the young Heavenshield lent his support to the Pantoran's plan, the blue-skinned boy looked over at the girl. "Don't worry," he offered simply.

Halrormalenth had a purpose for his creation. And Balagoth had a plan for how that creation would be transfigured. And the light of Nogras was the truth which laid all lies bare.

With the gods of the Primeval on their side, who could oppose them?

Which, with that in mind, Theo's comment that the Silver Jedi would find out that they weren't 'Primes' resonated with the young adherent of the faith. "...wait. What?" the Pantoran echoed, looking down at the other boy. Was anyone here tracking that Boo was Primeval?

As Theo asked about the biot's feeding schedule, younglings appeared to ask about food.

"The light of Nogras is all around us. Don't be afraid," the youth supplied, stepping over to the autochef to begin cycling through the available stores. There was a whole case of hot gorba melts that ought to still be good. Leftovers from the mission to the Wheel, in which the boy had carried out his first task for the Bleeding Sun: The assassination of Darth Scorpius. The premeditated murder of the Sith Lord who had kept Boo as a slave and servant. A temporary amusement, to be discarded when it was no longer entertaining.

The 'hot pocket' like sandwiches were cheap, but youngling friendly and easy enough to produce ready-to-eat in quick fashion. As he worked to dish up the food from the autochef, the Pantoran returned to the subject of the snake-like being that was hugging his body. "This is Azi," he supplied, providing an introduction of sorts for the pet.

"She's an amphistaff."

Hardly an everyday term, but certainly a word familiar to those who had studied the aliens of the Outer Rim and Wild Space. The worlds of the Primeval were still marked by evidence of the Yuuzhan Vong invasion of centuries before, with some members of the species still present among them. "It's a Yuuzhan Vong creation," the boy remarked, supplying the explanation in case it was needed. "They use them as a kind of living lightsabers."

The image that the boy's words invoked would doubtless be contrast to the affectionate, curious, and quite limber snake that the amphistaff presented. "I found her on Sernpidal."

Scooping the bulk of the snake-like biot up in his hands, the boy held the black mamba out toward Theo. "You want to hold her?"

"Just watch out. She likes to nose-dive down shirts."

And nest in sleeves, even though she couldn't fit in them. That fact never stopped her from trying.

The two boys were firming up their plans for their Voss landing. It was going to be risky, landing on Voss as one of these Prime-whatsits. Norah idly wondered if they would be shot clear from the sky. Theo had said his father would never allow it. Unless Theo's father was the King of the planet that ordered all military engagements, it would only take one greenhorn with an itchy trigger finger.

It was going to be best to keep thoughts of death to herself. She didn't need to worry the youngest ones around them. Most were already hungry and scared and speaking her mind further was just going to contribute to overall panic. If these were her final hours, Norah did not want to spend them in the presence of screaming children.

Currently they were crowded around looking at some special snake. Silently, Norah slipped out of the cockpit and away from the main group. She needed a few moments alone. Where could a girl get some privacy? There was only one place : the refresher.

Maybe Norah did not like snakes, she had slipped out to the cockpit and down to the back of the ship, Théo supposed. Girls are odd creatures, they had this thing of wanting to be alone, for hours on end sometimes, doing what? Théo had no clue and was glad for it. [member="Nina Heavenshield"] is like that too, spending hours doing nothing but drawing and stuff, Théo could not understand why she loved it so, but she is very good at it, maybe that is why.

Théo's attention turned back to Boo, after he made sure the children that had come to the cockpit had some food to go away with, the snake is beautiful and strange and when asked if he wanted to touch it, hold it .. Théo took the opportunity. Holding out his arms so Azi could slide to him, if it had the desire. It was a strange sensation, the scales on skin, so cold and yet it felt nice to the touch. He smiled at his friend with delight.

"What is this Nogras you speak of?". He asked while watching the snake move up to slide across his shoulders. Than he looked puzzled at Boo, "A living lightsaber? how does that work?". He asked not really believing Boo.

Questions, always questions, but they will have to wait ...

The ship was approaching Voss.

To be continued ...
