Welcome To The Soldier Side [Ronin]

The battle was so fresh that the battlefield was still lined with fresh blood, and the carrion birds hadn't even had a chance to make their mark. Though silence had fallen, the clashing of swords and roaring of warcries still rang in the ears of the Valkyri. Even the skies were dismal, reflecting the mood of the people.

Boots squelched in sodden snow as Mysa made her way almost deliriously through what remained of the combat zone. Her mind was abuzz, for there was so much information for her to work over. A meditation session was in order, something the young girl rarely ever bothered to do despite it being a pivotal part of her Jedi training, but right now she couldn't stop her feet or mind for even a second in order to attempt it.

A thin trail of smoke began to rise in the distance as pyres began to get lighted by the Valkyri who had made it through the day. Valkyri and Vinterbound alike lined the ground, making it difficult and almost treacherous to walk through.

She was about to turn back, to return to the Gates of Thainbroek, when she spotted a lone figure in the distance. Caked in mud and blood, looking as delirious as she felt, Mysa could not help but feel drawn to the being. They looked out of place, and their height made her more than aware that they were no native to the world. A fellow outsider like her.

While he didn't seem to have any physical wounds, she knew better than to overlook potential mental ones. PTSD was a very real outcome of war, especially for those who had never faced a battlefield. She couldn't turn a blind eye, so instead she made her way forward and toward the figure.

Ronin, Covered in cuts and blood, slowly begins to wake. He realises he's on the ground. There is a lot of quick movement, but Ronin's vision is too blurred to see who, or what the movement is.

After blinking a few times, Ronin focuses on a tall figure in the distance. The figure moves towards Ronin, but he is too startled to move. As the figure approaches, Ronin notices something strange about it's presence. Another figure quickly moves into sight. A quick movement ends in one of the "things" falling to the ground harshly. After a pause, the remaining figure rushes past.

Ronin once again begins waking. Still drenched in blood. This time, there is no movement to be seen. After what must have felt like hours, Ronin quickly pushes himself off of the ground. He stumbles his way past the what is now clearly visible dead bodies and out of the small cave. For miles, all that could be seen is dead bodies covered in red snow.

After a long walk around the battlefield, Ronin notices some large gates in the distance. He quickly moves towards them, tripping over bodies as he neared. Ronin stopped to inspect a body. This one looked like it had been dead for much longer than the other ones that he inspected on the way. It was carrying a sword. He managed to remove the sword from the bodies hand and held on to it. Then, He proceeded to walk toward the gates.

After a painful and extremely cold walk towards the gates, Ronin spotted a figure much smaller than the bodies on the ground. It faced Ronin, paused for a while, and then proceeded to walk towards him. From analysing the pause and walking pace, Ronin didn't feel like the figure was a threat. The figure also seemed to be walking from the gates, so this was the best chance to see whether they were friendly. If so, Ronin could ask where he was along with all of the other unanswered questions he had about his current state.

Ronin cautiously proceeded to walk towards the figure.

Her movements were cautious, not only did she not want to scare him away... She didn't want to risk him being hostile. The last thing she needed right now was more bloodshed. Each carefully calculated step brought her closer to the stranger, a human from the looks of him. Slowly Mysa raised one empty hand, keeping it open in a waving gesture.

"Hail, stranger... Are you well?"

She doubted any of them were well after the battle, she meant it more as in... Are you hurt. Physical woulds she could help, mental would take a lot longer.

Stepping over Valkyri and Vinterbound alike, the sound of battle ringing in her ears, Mysa could not help but think back to all that had taken place that day. She hadn't been present for most of the attack which had been centered on Thainbroek, her own battles had lay within the nearby forest alongside her brother.

It felt a world away now, that clearing which now had felled trees and lightning scorched undergrowth.

A connection had been made this day between Mysa, Théodred, and the very land they walked upon. The Gods had stood alongside them, in all their proud glory. Without them many more lives would have been lost. She had to be grateful for as much, she couldn't solely focus on the losses else she'd drive herself insane.

Ronin proceeds to move towards the figure cautiously,

"Hail, stranger... Are you well?"

The figure was obviously female from the tone of voice. Ronin was Shaking and shivering, covered in cuts and blood, extremely confused and much, much more.

By the time Ronin had thought of an appropriate response to her question, They were both close enough to see that neither of them were well. And also no threat.

"What happened here? Where am I?"

Ronin threw the sword to the side of him, showing that he was no threat.

He didn't respond immediately, and as she neared him she saw that he bore wounds. What did she expect, they were on a battlefield after all. Frowning softly, it did not take long for her to realize that he seemed lost. Disorientated.

That wasn't a good sign.

Perhaps he had struck his head? If that was the case, it was very likely that he had concussion. Mysa needed to find him a medic.

"It's okay; you were in a battle, but you're safe now. You're on Midvinter, do you remember coming here at all?"

Extending out a hand, she offered him safety and support should he require it.

"We need to get you to a doctor, okay? Come with me..."

Of course she had no idea if he actually would come with her or not. She could only hope that he would be cooperative -- for his own sake.

Ronin paused once again. "Midvinter? I've never even heard of it!" he muttered under his breath.

"Uh..."

He said it to almost distract her while he thought about whether he should be confused, angry or irritated in response to her and also to his overall situation.

"Okay"

He proceeded to follow her, still being cautious as he is on a planet he knows nothing about.

"Ever heard of Abafar?" He says trying to lighten the mood.

The planet was cold, and his wounds hurt more because of it, like he'd been cut everywhere by a dagger made of ice.
The battle had been large. Then again, he'd never seen a battle. But either way, there were bodies for miles.

As Ronin had a choice of Gates, Snow, Or bodies to look at, he tended to look at the bodies and snow more than the gates. He'd seen bodies before, Including dead ones, but never had he seen such tall ones.

"So are the people here Human?"

He walked on, following and listening to nothing more than the voice of himself, the girl and the crunching of red snow, curling into a ball under his feet as he stepped over a countless number of the bodies. The moon also caught his eye as he had never seen a moon. Or has no recollection of seeing one. Even though he hadn't seen one, he knew what it was the second he looked at it. Ronin had rarely been out of Pons Ora so despite his pain and disorientation, it was somewhat like an adventure for him.

Everything about this stranger pointed to the fact that he had no clue where he was, what he was doing here, or how he came to be on Midvinter at all. That was worrying. But there was little she could do for the time being, so she focused on getting him to a professional... Or as close as she could come to finding one on a world which happened to be technologically inept.

"Abafar? No... Tell me about it?"

She guided him through the battlefield, careful to avoid any bodies which may end up in their path, and toward the City within which there would likely be trauma units set up for healers to tend to the wounded. Best she get him to one, and soon. But in the meantime, if she could keep him talking and aware of what was happening around him, and recalling what he could about his past, then that would be helpful. Especially for him.

Who knew how much he remembered, and how much he'd forgotten.

"They're Valkyri, kind of like humans but... Bigger, hardier."

She was clearly not a Valkyri, being smaller than even... Wait, what was his name?

"I'm Mysa, by the way... Do you remember your name?"

The girl had never heard of Abafar. And I'd never heard of Midvinter... So this means the two are likely far from each other.

"Well, it is the opposite of everything I've seen here so far here. A desert planet, in the outer rim territories. And we've probably stepped over more bodies than there are people on the planet. There's not much else to it."

After he says that, Ronin begins to think about Pons Ora. His parents mostly. Then he thinks about Midvinter. Did he come with them? And if so where they in this horrible battle? He couldn't think of any question or way she would know who they were, or if they were in it. There was only one question that she may be able to answer.

"Valkyri? Where there any humans in this brawl? You seem smaller than the Valkyri too... Are you human?"

Ronin carries on walking. By this time he was certain that they were nearing the doctor she spoke of.

"Yes. My name is Ronin"

Ronin knew that if she wondered about whether he remembered his own name, he was a mess on the inside and out. But at this point, there was nothing that he could do besides follow her or lie down with the dead Valkyri.

Thank the Gods he continued to speak, to reminisce. This would prove beneficial, keep him conscious, allow his mind to whir and grasp at memories. Perhaps it would allow him to recall how he got to be in the middle of the battlefield. Who knew.

First things first, though, she had to get him seen to. Luckily they were closer to the walls now, and a great many of the houses had been turned into temporary relief centers. It shouldn't take too long before they found a medic.

"Deserts are just as harsh as tundras to live within. No doubt you're cold, though..."

She slid her cloak from off her own back and settled it over his, hoping to relieve some of the chill he was no doubt experiencing.

"There were a couple of humans, but mostly Valkyri. And the Vinterbound." She frowned, no signs of those... No they had been burned before the Valkyri's own dead had even been counted. You couldn't trust them to stay dead, after all, and nobody wanted a repeat of the battle.

"I'm Umbaran, but Midvinter is my home and so the Valkyri are my people." He gave his name then and she offered a polite smile. "Ronin, good... Still unsure on what you were doing here?"
