Approved Species Wee Dragons

OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: People take dragons way too seriously. They're always big and scary and shoot fire. My intent is to bring a different breed of dragons to promote dragon inclusivity, a bit of fun, and a species that produces a pet for the lovely [member="Iseult Yver"] with a potential for more pets for the CIS' Mandragora.

GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Name: Wee Dragons
  • Designation: Non-sentient
  • Homeworld: Ryloth
  • Language: N/A
  • Average Lifespan:
    Natural Lifespan: About 10 years
  • Actual Lifespan: About 2 years

[*]Estimated Population: Planetary
[*]Description:
When people think about dragons, they often thing big. They often think regal, gold hoarding, violent, and fire shooting. They think of thick leather that protects the insides, making it almost impossible to stab. And this is because most people have never met a friggin’ Wee Dragon.

In truth, it’s almost sad to call them dragon at all. These creatures are small, roughly the size of a white chicken, and if you could imagine them with feathers and without a beak, you’d probably be imagining a chicken in general. They are short, chubby, small, and incredibly stupid.

Still, the general anatomy of dragons is present. They have four legs (or at least they start out with four legs, many of them lose at least one over the span of their lifetime), two wings (or at least they start out with two wings, many of them lose at least one over the span of their lifetime), and a tail (or at least they start out with a tail, some of them misplace it over the span of their lifetime).

PHYSICAL INFORMATION
  • Breathes: Type I - Breathable
  • Average height of adults: 40cm when relaxed, can stretch up to 60cm when trying to be threatening
  • Average length of adults: 60cm
  • Average wing span: 80cm
  • Skin color: Wee Dragons range in color from most matte shades of greens to browns, but the occasional red shade has been seen as well.
  • Hair color: N/A
  • Distinctions:
They don't look like humans. They look more like chickens.
  • They have no feathers or hair.
  • Although they are born with four legs, the legs are never close to being identical in length, which makes them all walk funny and keeps them from being able to run.
  • Their wings are useless - these buggers can't fly.
  • At a glance, no one can tell whether a Wee Dragon is a male or a female. Usually, people wait for them to start laying egg in order to see. Anatomical scans easily reveal who's what, but few people in history have actually wanted to scan a Wee Dragon.
  • Wee Dragons smell like swamp poodoo.

[*]Races: n/a
[*]Strengths:
  • Endurance: although Wee Dragons are generally weak and prone to break and lose body parts, they have the will of iron and will endure almost any hardship that is tossed their way and does not kill them.
  • They Taste Like Poodoo: one of the reasons that the Wee Dragons have survived as a species is because their meat tastes horrible to the known predators on Ryloth. No one wants to eat them. Really.
  • Salamander-Like Adaptation: While Wee Dragons don't heal particularly fast, losing a limb will rarely kill them. The wounds close pretty quickly, and they just sludge on through life.
  • Fast Breeders: the average female Wee Dragon will lay at least a dozen eggs in her lifetime.

[*]Weaknesses:
  • Weak of Body: Wee Dragons are prone to break and lose body parts throughout their lives.
  • Very Low Intelligence: Wee Dragons' intelligence is akin to that of white chickens IRL. They will poodoo in their drinking water, run into walls for no reason, and jump off a cliff (also for no reason). They will also not move out of a predator's way, but instead, try to either eat it or lick it. The same for oncoming ships and speeders.
  • Bad Digestion: Wee Dragons eat almost everything but can digest almost nothing. This is why they also smell so bad. Their gassy odors are enough to ward many creatures away, both sentient and non-sentient. In extreme cases, eating the wrong thing will cause a Wee Dragon to explode. And die.
  • Sun is Evil: Wee Dragons don't do well in sunlight, which is why they reside in the Nightlands of Ryloth. More than 12 hours in the sunlight can cause death by dehydration. No known problems with artificial lights.

CULTURE
  • Diet: As mentioned in the weaknesses, Wee Dragons will literally eat almost anything, including rocks, glass, and [member="Srina Talon"] 's muffins.
Known safe foods: Conifer bark, other Wee Dragons, cucumbers, white marshmellows, peanut butter, and various low-growing plants that can be found on Ryloth.
  • Foods that have caused Wee Dragons to combust: [member="Srina Talon"] 's muffins, Spirit Ichor, alcohol above 10%
  • All foods not listed above will cause the Wee Dragons to bloat with gas and make their surroundings incredibly smelly.

[*]Communication: Wee Dragons communicate mostly through body language. They will attempt to hug each other, lick each other, lick other people, point at things with their tongues. When threatened, the Wee Dragon will stretch in height and leg their wings out, but this is more comic than actually threatening to sentient onlookers.
[*]Technology level: Give a Wee Dragon a comm and it will try to eat it. These creatures cannot use tech at all.
[*]Religion/Beliefs: N/A
[*]General behavior:
  • Mating: Female Wee Dragons lay eggs. Male Wee Dragons pet the eggs. A week later, wee Wee Dragons come out of the eggs.
  • Wee Dragons like to be in groups. It's rare to find one alone. A Wee Dragon will swap other Wee Dragons for people though, an they appear to like humans and near humans.
  • Wee Dragons not only like to eat everything, but also lick everything. Once they are convinced the creature next to them is not food, they will swap attempting to eat it for constantly licking it.
  • Wee Dragons love to sleep. In beds. With fluffy blankets. In the wild, Wee Dragons sleep huddled together. Often, wild Wee Dragons will eat bad food before sleep so the slow emit of gasses during the sleeping hours will keep all the Wee Dragons in the pile warm.
  • Wee Dragons are generally docile and friendly.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
What makes a dragon? Is it their size? Is it their level of threat? Is it the treasure they guard? No. Dragons have distinctive biological characteristics, and all animals who have them, are titled as dragons. This is pretty much the sole reason the Wee Dragons were labelled as dragons in the first place, though some might confuse them for naked mutant chickens or vermin.

Wee Dragons have always been part of Ryloth’s Nightlands. Ages ago, the dark side of the planet was full of these creatures who were always walking around, trying to eat everything in sight, including creatures that tried to eat them first. However, during the early wars on the planet, the Hutts that attempted to invade Ryloth killed many of them off for sport. They also attempted to ship them off planet, but their special care and fragile constitution combined with most people in the galaxy not really wanting to pay for them meant that this was too much effort to turn into profit.

Further damage to the Wee Dragons occurred during the Gulag plague, when their numbers dwindled again.

One of the main reasons that the Wee Dragons have survived is that they mostly pose a danger onto themselves, but are otherwise safe. Some areas in the Ryloth forests include special padding of moss against trees to keep Wee Dragons from running into them to split their heads, and much of the low-growing local plants are safe for them to consume. The local wildlife of Ryloth has learned not to try to eat them, as even the most non-caring of the predators on the planet finds their meat to taste too bad for consumption.

These days, less than five thousand Wee Dragons still exist in the forests of Ryloth, and it estimated that without interfering and effort, they will completely die out as a species a century from now. Although they breed incredibly fast, Wee Dragons have a tendency to die out pretty fast as well due to their species’ stupidity. It’s not entirely sure how they’ve survived all this time at all.

Wee Dragons have been observed to try to eat almost anything, themselves included. It’s unclear whether they think much beyond their most basic needs of food, warmth, and attention.

Recently, CIS researchers have taken a special interest in these creatures though due to their ability to eat so many things without dying, and some members of the Mandragora have chosen to take these dragons on as pets.

I think this is hilarious and am ready to stamp it, but I figure I will give u the opportunity to fix some color-coding that seems to have broken.

Fast Breeders: the average female Wee Dragon will lay at least a dozen eggs in her lifetime.
Tag me once you have tweaked it or if you don't feel the need to tweak it and I will put a stamp on this.
