Faction We are under attack

It's time for the Galactic Senate to stop pandering. We need real bills and real actions. This should be fairly uncontroversial, but who knows.

Sen. Trvgye Hakon hovers onto the senate floor for the first time. The magnitude of this moment is not lost on him, but his time on Wroona led to him learning not to pay attention to semantics.

"I call for the condemnation of the SIth," he said, as soon as the chancellor gave him the floor. He pauses to let such a severe statement rest. That kind of statement might lead to him being gaveled down at any moment. Apparently, in this kind of galaxy—one devoid of truth and justice—that is a bold statement.

"The Sith have attacked our factories. They have invaded our valuable resource spaces and underminded the safety and stability of our galaxy. It is imperative that we strike back and let the galaxy know that we will not tolerate, adhere to or understand this erratic behavior under any circumstance. The High Republic is better than this and we will not sit idly by while our allies and compatriots fall into ruin."

"It is past time that this body holds the Sith accountable,"
he finished.

For the average person, this is a simple resolution. For Hakon, this screams a matter of life or death. If this gets passed, he's slowly on his way to becoming one of the senate elite, if it doesn't, his best bet is building a home on the north side of Wroona and never worrying about galactic politics again.

OOC: This is open to all THR Political Officials, plus really anybody in THR or THR-adjacent groups, as long as they have a legitimate interest in the body

Elian was only a Junior senatorial Aide at this current juncture. But still he was curious and has his questions. Questions that weren't going to remain in the darkness for long. He took a deep breath, casually looking over to where his arm no longer existed.

Condemation of the sith. It carried much weight, and there was so much more that needed to be said.

"What are you proposing?" Elian inquired easily enough. Just a straight honest question.

War?

Katarine hated politics. She always had, so finding her as an observer in the Senate chambers was an odd event. Yet here she stood, dressed in her Jedi attire, her deep green eyes scanning the gathered politicians.

Her time on Naboo had been limited lately due to her building a school just outside the Midrim. That project was a personal one, but one she was considering brining under the authority of the Jedi Order. She knew they had other enclaves, but the politics worried her. Kat hadn’t been around long enough to truly know how The High Republic operated. She knew that mixing the Jedi with politics had once ended the entire Jedi Order, and it was something that made her chest tighter to think of.

So today she watched, observed, and tried to truly understand how this democracy worked.

Verity sat in her pod, leaning forward slightly and resting her chin against her fist. Her glacial blue eyes watched Tryvge Hakon Tryvge Hakon with a mild interest. It was about time that someone else started taking the Sith seriously in this body. Everyone seemed so interested in covering their own backs, amassing their own power, that they seemed to miss the forest for the trees.

The forest, of course, being the continued existence of the High Republic. The trees, therefore, being petty squabbles over jurisdiction, influence, power blocs, et cetera.

Verity wasn't sure exactly what the Senator was proposing, so she kept her eye on the discussion and sent a message to Elian Abrantes Elian Abrantes . :// V.STUYVERIS.1138: Excellent taking the initiative. Let me know what he says. V.

Heir to the Emperor, Senator of Denon
The session had been something she wasn't expecting but when the news came she had rushed from Denon. Going towards her office and then coming out of her estate. THe speeder over had been enjoyable as she arrived to the session and took it all in. The white leggings looking like they were poured on with her repulsor anklets to be barefoot. She slipped into her pod and the droid who was there recording for her gave her a nod and the minutes aas it were. She sadly hadn't heard this senator before but she really only paid attention and interacted with a few as they continued to improve and work on Denon now that the expo was over. The Fandor a welcomed addition to the Denon security forces. "Interesting." She said it while sitting there and her long coat was on before she breathed in and then outwards settling in to listen to the plan.

Lex

Nicotine Slave
A sip of water. Two fingers placing themselves on each lip out of habit. A cough, a clearing of his throat, and a sigh.

It was fascinating that this seemed to be something that had to be brought up at all. The Sith were a destructive force no matter which way you looked at it. Smuggled photos from beyond the black wall, and open news of the Covenant's tyranny was hard to just ignore when you lived on the border between freedom and theocratic fascism.

"Nubia seconds this proposition." Lex called out to the crowd and hit the green button to approve to prove just how willing he was. "To have the Dark Lord of the Sith sit in the streets of Naboo, sipping tea with his friends as if he isn't the most vile being in the galaxy is an insult to every individual within our borders who are worried their homes might be the next to burn under in his gaze."

"Seeing as we're trying to be 'secular', I propose our first step is to brand the creature itself as the criminal it is. Not for being a Sith but for the unmitigated damage it has caused the people of this galaxy for nearly a century now."

"Thank you for the question, Mr. Abrantes," Tryvge Hakon began. "Unfortunately, we will be unable to fully assess the damage this blatant and violent act of aggression has caused until this conflict has subsidized, but, as many of you likely were, I was incredibly troubled to hear these reports in my office this morning. I am providing you all with an initial draft of this resolution. While we not be able to immediately address the damage, I do not believe that should stop this body from condemning such a horrific act of violence and encouraging further action—which is exactly what this resolution does."

The following simple resolution should be transmitted via The High Republic Senate communication system to all relevant parties:
Resolution 2128

Under consideration by The High Republic Senate

The High Republic Senate,

Considering the recent Sith raider attacks on critical research facilities housed on Ilic, which has led to significant damages and harms,

Stressing frequent Sith malfeasance and disregard for a peaceful and respectful galactic order,

Acknowledging The High Republic’s mandate to protect the freedom of this galaxy and reaffirming our commitment to the progress of science and therefore the galaxy,

Expressing our appreciation to all those who have aided in combatting Sith Order extremism and stood in the way of this catastrophe,
  1. Strongly calls upon all member planets to push back against Sith raiders and other forms of galactic abuse led by the Sith Order;
  2. Condemns the Sith Order for its abhorrent actions on Ilic and elsewhere, and demands it immediately withdraw all soldiers from contested areas and submit to an unbiased galactic tribunal for justice;
  3. Commands that the Chancellor of The High Republic mobilize intergalactic crisis assistance resources to the planet of Ilic as soon as it is safe to do so;
  4. Encourages this body and The High Republic agencies to consider subsidizing the biomolecule industry and specifically the New Cov Biomolecule Company to ensure that critical research is not interrupted by this horrific attack.

As that transmission was sent out, a signal was received indicating support from Nubia. Hakon had never been to the planet nor met with its senator, but he had heard of it considering it was an integral part of The High Republic and near Corellia, which he regularly visited. Perhaps the worlds near the edge of this Republic's border were more interested in securing its future from external threats than some of these other rather inferior senators.

"I gladly welcome your support, Lex," Hakon said. "It is also abhorrent to me and my constituents that we treat this issue with such a lackadaisical attitude. I have been fortunate enough to never meet a Sith, but I recently spoke with a refugee on Wroona, who by the grace of the Force was able to escape from Sith custody, and what she described was frankly abhorrent."

He paused, intentionally choking on his words. A tear leaked out of his left eye threatening to ruin his carefully curated makeup. He took a deep breath.

"The sith have committed some of the worst crimes imaginable to this body and this galaxy," he continued. "The Sith are ruthless and abhorrent creatures. I am always willing to negotiate, but if they are not willing to submit to fair and equal justice, then I fear it will be mandatory that we progress beyond this simple resolution and consider more extreme solutions."

Hakon wasn't particularly sure of the veracity of the claims about the Sith he just presented, but he was confident the Sith were awful and his emotional reaction would make for a great soundbite. If a few exaggerations meant ending the Sith, it was well worth it. If there's one thing his prior political experience on Wroona taught him, facts are inferior to confidence when it comes to politics.

The 'extreme solutions' line? Tactically vague. His policy expertise was in economics, but he was not afraid to take the battle to the Sith; he just wasn't exactly sure how he would do it yet, so best to be vague. Perhaps the Nubian senator would have a great idea of how to do so.

Cynan sighed as he studied what was being proposed to the Senate by Tryvge, leaning on his cane, his hand rubbed his beard slowly as he wondered what this was going to change. No one in the senate believed that the Sith were not a threat to the High Republic, it was clear from the most recent incident on Moorja. The issue was how best to manage the problem, what were the needed steps next to ensure that they appropriately dealt with the Sith. Discussion on their evils, and such seemed to be a waste of air.

Tapping the controls, Cynan's senate pod shifted forward, "Senator for Corellia, Cynan Obaith." Cynan introduced himself, "it is all well and good desiring the Sith to be handled, I doubt anyone in this Senate believes that they should be left alone. Especially with the growing border conflicts with the Sith Order, such as Moorja." Cynan held that mention for a moment to allow others to keep in mind that he was not on the Sith's side.

"However, the proposal here has many issues that I believe need to be addressed. Firstly, I do not think any world within the High Republic is allowing the Sith Order to occupy it's space without attempting already to push back. I know that any Sith were to visit Corellia that myself and the government there would do our best to ensure that Sith were not remaining on the world for any length of time." Cynan breathed in deeply, "2, I am not sure how this second statement would be followed by the Sith Order? Simply placing it into writing does not mean that the Sith Order must then follow it. Especially if they do not respect our authority or see the High Republic as having any authority or claim over the planets that are members within our borders."

It seemed pointless in mentioning something that would not be upheld or respected by the opposing faction, especially since there was no understanding between the High Republic and the Sith Order to indicate that the Sith Order would agree to any terms dictated in such a manner.

"3. There is already a recovery and crisis team within the High Republic. One merely needs to request such assistance. I, myself, have often come to the aide of many worlds after tragic events have occurred. And we have a clone army that is costing this High Republic an extraordinary amount of money in combating this Sith problem." Cynan pointed out, he was deeply concerned that soon people would be pushing for more budgetary allowances to the military arm of the High Republic that would come at the cost of social and cultural expense. Something he did not believe was the correct move at all.

"As for subsidizing an industry, I would caution this senate against such a move until we learn more on the industry, and or specific company, and what was being studied on Ilic." Cynan stated, he took a moment and breathed in deeply. "As for the incident with a Sith Lord being able to spend time on Naboo, while this is a situation that should be of great concern. I would also wish to inform the senate that the only way to prevent this situation from happening again, is to somehow replicate the Blackwall gate that the Sith Order surrounds itself within."

"Which would come at the cost of the freedom of our citizens and closes us off from allies and we would look no better than the Sith we claim to stand against. Unfortunately, there is no guarantees in defences and we cannot ensure that such incidents will not happen again. However, I will express my gratitude that the Jedi were able to react and ensure that no one lost their life. I believe developing a stronger relationship with the Jedi Order and perhaps leaning on their knowledge of the Sith could help us continue in fighting the Sith but also ensuring that our citizens continue to feel safe within our borders."

Cynan bowed his head respectfully as the pod returned to where it once was.

"Well, I mean... guys like us, we're not exactly the type of people they write about in history books, you know? But the people we saved, they're our legacy."
What Katarine was hearing was troubling in more ways than one. She could tell that citizens were getting tired of the complacency of the High Republic, and yet there was no clear indication on what to do about it. The hard reality was that they were surrounded by enemies on every front and a wrong move would mean total destruction for them all.

Yet she could not blame the frustration others felt. The Sith seemed to be goading the Republic into an attack, knowing what position that would put it in, and the Republic seemed determined to keep its head buried in the sand and play nice.

This was exactly why she hated politics.

Elian looked at his communication device, he smiled lightly as he read Verity's words once more. He would wait a bit before he would respond to her. What was being discussed, the way it was presented, didn't sit well with Elian. True, attacks on Republic worlds should be condemned. And for all that Elian knew about them. They were being addressed properly. He knew Chancellor Vexx, and the King of Naboo, they both were not just sitting on their laurels. They were both strong and they showed it many times. He was present, when they showed their strength and courage.

It wasn't false or unjust, it was true and great.

"I agree in majority part with Cynan. This resolution needs to be heavily amended before it moves forward."

He type a message on his communicator, sending a message to Verity Stuyveris Verity Stuyveris We have a lot to talk about

Senator Cynan Obaith rose to speak and Hakon, maintaining a calm and fairly stern posture, listened intently. He was somewhat willing to accept advice from a more experienced member of the body, but also already beginning to formulate a response in his head, ready to defend his simple resolution. When Obaith finished speaking, he received a second of sorts from another person. Hakon had no idea who that man or child was and, if that was all he had to add, it probably was not worth learning who he was.

Hakon waited a moment to let the body settle and seeing nobody else eager to comment, he rose again.

"I appreciate the feedback, Senator Obaith," Tryvge Hakon replied as a brief and halfhearted smile flashed across his face. "I do agree with the need to learn more before committing to subsidies. That is why this resolution simply encourages consideration of subsidies. I do not intend for this resolution to include any sort of funding package, but to instead acknowledge the possibility and support further exploration of them. I also appreciate the point you make regarding The High Republic's recovery and crisis team, but I do not see any issues with this body having an additional request on the record. Many people look to this body for guidance and would be reassured to see us making an official recommendation."

Hakon briefly paused before continuing his response.

"I do, however, take issue with your characterization of the Sith. You say no world in this Republic is allowing them, but also acknowledge they were present here on Naboo in our capital," he said. "Clearly, there has been an oversight somewhere and that must not be allowed to continue. That is why we must reaffirm our commitment to standing against them. If the Sith do not follow the resolution, then we will deal with that when we get there and likely through subsequent debates and more legislative action. This obviously makes no promises of funding and certainly isn't proposing any military action."

Hakon paused briefly again and this time he went from addressing the wider body to looking directly at Senator Obaith. One thing he hated was his words being misconstrued and he wanted to make sure he made it very clear what he proposed and, perhaps more importantly, what he was not, while putting to bed misconceptions about how to prevent Sith incursions into Republic space.

"I would also like to note that I am in no way proposing a recreation of the Blackwall gate or anything that would infringe on our people's freedom," he said. "To say that is the only way to stop or limit Sith infiltration of our Republic is absurd. You and I both know that we can improve security without resorting to such draconian measures."

After he finished that bit and prepared to wrap up, Hakon's tone and posture shifted a bit lighter. He had never met a Jedi and was not particularly thrilled by the prospect of calling upon one zealous religious body to combat another, but if it could save the Republic money and make the bill more likely to pass, he was happy to make that concession.

"While the Jedi currently fall outside the scope of this bill, I have no issues with strengthening our relationship with them," Hakon concluded. "I have no problem supporting an additional resolution encouraging that or accepting amendments related to that. Furthermore, I do realize that some of the verbiage used in this document may be a bit strong for a simple resolution. I want to make it very clear that the Republic opposes the recent actions the Sith have taken, but, in light of comments made by this body, I am also favorable to making amendments to the wording."

With that, Hakon relinquished the floor. This had largely started as a plan to pass a rather surface level simple resolution that would look good on his record and, of course, the HoloNet. Now that somebody had challenged his resolution though, he found himself much more serious and interested in fighting for it.

Mya was sitting in the viewing area, but had not yet spoken up. She was not a true senator of the Republic yet, though she was trying extremely hard to get her world to join the Republic. That was partially why she was here. She wanted to learn as much as she could about the political state the powerhouse found itself in. Her small world needed protection against corporate greed, and Mya was going to make sure it happened.

Her eyes roamed over those speaking, lingering for a moment on a dark-haired, handsome youth. After a moment, she shook her head and scolded herself. She was here to listen, not check out the inviting scenery.

The politics seemed straightforward enough, and were the type of thing she had witnessed before. Some people wanted more done, others were cautious, but she appreciated the civil way this was unfolding. It gave her hope that perhaps those in charge of the High Republic would meet with her.
