OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To create a species that can be used as part of a 'smart fluid' in Sylva Vitae biotech.
  • Image Credit: Me, I made it!
  • Canon: N/A
  • Permissions: N/A
  • Links:
GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Name: Waterthreads (Protoplastea visiungos)
  • Origins: Created as a version of Plem cells that are less like stem cells and are more Force-sensitive. All versions of waterthreads are kept in stasis by Jack, to prevent any change in natural ecosystems were this to be improperly introduced.
  • Other Locations: N/A
  • Classification: Single-celled organism
  • Average Growth Cycle: 10-14 days from first bud to lysis. It may bud via asexual reproduction provided nutrients are present. It is able to bud approximately once every 30-36 hours, but usually only buds twice in its entire lifespan.
  • Viability: To reproduce, it requires a water source. It can enter a form of 'hibernation' by hardening its glycose shell, surviving indefinitely until optimal conditions resume.
  • Description: This plant exists as a self-contained life-form - a microscopic cell that is self-sustaining. In a water-based solvent, it appears as a greenish-teal color. In a solid mass, these can appear as dark green, crystalline shards. They are fragile and will dissolve on contact with moisture (including body sweat). A single organism is covered in a glucose-like shell of gelatin. This shell is capable of hardening when not in an optimal environment.
PHYSICAL INFORMATION
  • Average Height: 0.35 μm (0.00035 mm)
  • Average Length: 0.35 μm (0.00035 mm)
  • Color: Dark green as a solid, greenish-teal in solution.
  • Nutritional Value: None
  • Toxicity: Mild incontinence if swallowed. Don't swallow.
  • Other Effects: Waterthreads are Force-sensitive. Their Force-sensitivity is in direct correlation to their overall mass - the more that are present in a solvent, the more Force-sensitive they are. They are high in midi-chlorian count, but are not sentient themselves.
  • Distinctions: N/A
Strengths:
  • High Force Sensitivity (by mass)
  • Long-lasting in storage
Weaknesses:
  • Simple physiology susceptible to microscopic predators, with minimal defense
  • Force-sensitivity is impossible to hide
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
In crafting the Plem cells, Jack knew he needed to craft something specific to armor. Creating a design that was similar in concept but different in execution, he crafted waterthreads. So named for their behavior when responding to stimuli, waterthreads form threadlike shapes in a solution, allowing increased strength that their size belies. Completely liquid when at rest in solution, they can form a cushioning padding under stress, acting in the most basic way like 'smart armor'. That is their basic function, although with enough shaping and adjusting, they can take on a variety of additional properties.
