OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To create a baseline for future plant-crafted creations, and a standard unit of measurement for power & ability conversion for said creations, as well as to codify and craft a type of totipotent plant cell that isn't just a copy-paste of a pre-existing Force ability

GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Name: Pluripotent plant organisms (Parenchymal phloemus), 'plant stem' or 'plem' cells
  • Origins: Handcrafted by Jack Sandrow
  • Other Locations: Can be found in limited supply on Yavin 4. Fulfils a similar ecological niche to local pond weeds.
  • Classification: Flowering aquatic plants
  • Average Growth Cycle: Average population doubling time is 20 standard hours.
  • Viability: In its natural habitat, it requires similar carbon dioxide intake to other plants in its ecological niche, and will flourish in Type I and Type II atmospheres. Without significant genetic tailoring, it will quickly approach torpidity in any other atmosphere type, and will perish immediately in space. In addition to atmospheric requirements, it requires a ready source of water and sunlight.
  • Description: Plem cells are unique in their ability to stack upon each other. Unlike natural plants which compete for local nutrient requirements, plem cells can adapt by collecting themselves into one single organism. The lower bounds are mere specks of green in the hand, and the upper bounds appear to grow larger than trees. These tree-like plem cells, despite technically being a symbiotic collection of multiple cells, act as a single organism. By altering in shape and function to better perform as a group, they coexist in sync with each other. The tallest recorded organisms were 500 m in height, and the longest recorded organism was over a kilometer and a half in length.
PHYSICAL INFORMATION
  • Average Height: Varies; standard is 0.03 cm, up to 500 m seen
  • Average Length: Varies; standard is 0.1 cm, up to 1.5 km seen
  • Color: Standard is bright green; colors can vary in larger organisms.
  • Nutritional Value: High in protein and carbohydrates. 150% more caloric-efficient than similarly-massed vegetables, but sacrifices flavor and texture.
  • Toxicity: None. Can be a mild choking hazard if inhaled (please don't inhale).
  • Other Effects: None
  • Distinctions: Able to reproduce either by asexual budding or sexual reproduction by stamen and pistil, this might be the smallest flowering plant in the galaxy.
Strengths:
  • High adaptability makes it ideal for self-sufficient survival scenarios. Able to survive on its own in the wild, it can function without becoming invasive, allowing its survival to be all but guaranteed without sacrificing native flora in the process.
  • High energy content makes it ideal for genetic manipulation and food sourcing. With the gamut of possibilities heretofore unknown, there are plenty of options for making this plant viable for a multitude of purposes.
Weaknesses:
  • It's small. With a limited sample size, anyone trying to manufacture these en masse has their work cut out for them. They require time, nutrients, and energy, before they become properly viable for mass use.
  • It's weak. With no natural defenses (besides reproduction), there is nothing preventing these from just being gobbled up, either by animals or people.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
A small stint on Yavin 4 gave Jack some time to explore the ponds and lakes. Finding a suitable candidate for some careful meddling, he set to work, altering physical details and genetic makeup. When he was finished, he had a small but potent plant, capable of the energy demands he would need. In addition, the plants are able to exist safely on Yavin 4, so keeping a small stash there would be most ideal in case he were to run out elsewhere in the galaxy.
