Delta-7, Lothal Jedi Temple

Jalen had spent his year watching over the Jedi Temple on Lothal with relative silence. The Temple had become somewhat of a remote haven for those fleeing the chaos of the core. Even so, their numbers were still rather small. Perhaps that was just due to the nature of where Lothal was located. It was hard to say. Regardless, the younger Kai'el brother had stuck to his word and watched over the temple he had helped to renovate. When Jasper returned he had tried to give the Temple to him. Jasper declined. He said that this temple was Jalen's place, not his. He understood what his brother meant.

It was just a matter of if he could live up to the example that he had laid out for Jalen. It was hard. Jalen worried often about if he could even be half the Jedi his brother was.

It was a breezy Autumn afternoon. Jalen sat upon one of the temple's smaller domes, now overgrown with moss and grass. His hallikset was in his lap, to which he strummed at it idly while the wind fluttered by and through his hair. It was much longer than it ever had been before. Tempo had started braiding it, not that Jalen minded. He was just happy to have some company. He typically came out in the afternoon to meditate. That usually came with music. The hallikset he carried was a part of him, and so it was a part of his meditation. It filled the dark, inky void around him with bright aura. It reminded Jalen of what it felt like to see colors.

Then again, maybe it was something entirely new. Something only he could experience.

Long, slender ears twitched at the faint melody, drawing the mauve-haired young man closer. Tempo lingered near the blonde, saying nothing at first, simply letting the gentle flow of music wash over him until Jalen Kai'el Jalen Kai'el 's final note faded into the air.

"Enjoying the peace?" he asked at last, a cattish grin tugging at the corners of his mouth. Tempo hadn't been around as often lately, too many projects, too much time swallowed by his little business. But things had slowed; for once, he could just be here.

"I came across something out on the dunes… want to see it?" Tempo added, curiosity glinting in his eyes.

"I came across something out on the dunes… want to see it?"

"Dunes? You mean back on Tatooine?" Jalen responded, his head tilting back in Tempo's direction.

Tempo was between Tatooine and here a lot. Seemed like a pretty far distance from there to here, but Tempo wanted to be here more often and still have time back home.

"I can... y'know, see if you hand it to me," he shrugged.

Cause he saw with his hands. Not his eyes.

It was a more traditional make and model of sorts, but it held a certain heft to it. It's exterior was rough and sand blasted from centuries of being lost in the dunes.

"Interesting..."

Jalen ran his fingers over the ancient lightsaber for a moment. The hum suggested the kyber was still present, but there was no way that any of the tech was any good. It was all fried by the extreme heat, and much of the metal was corrosive. The lightsaber lift up out of his hands and then slowly peel apart. When all that remained was the blue kyber, he presented that crystal to Tempo.

"The rest is junk, but this is actually special," Jalen explained. "It's Kyber. We use these to make our lightsabers. The crystal is alive, and it bonds to those who are Force sensitive."

"Huh... So that's how you open them... you know I tried a bunch of times to open it. "
He trailed looking it over. " Where do those crystals come from?" Tempo asked curiously looking at the pretty blue gem. "Does it man that saber used to belong to a Jedi? Can you bond with the crystal or not because it was probably some one else's?"

"It can be bonded with again," he assured. "Given the state of that saber, I imagine the previous owner is long dead. It's just a matter of being open to connect to it."

Jalen grasped hold of the crystal then placed it into Tempo's hand.

"I imagine it might help you better understand your abilities as well," Jalen stated. "Nobody knows where Kyber truly comes from, but there are a few natural sources like Ilum. My guess is that the Force makes them where it needs to. I'm not sure why. What I do know is that there is much to learn from listening to these stones. Even if what they say isn't clear at first."

Tempo blinked as Jalen placed the stone into his palm, turning it over with a curious eye. His long ears twitched, then perked as he lifted it toward the sun, peering through to catch the play of light across its clarity and tiny inclusions. "How… does one even do that?" he asked, brow furrowing as he studied what, to him, looked like nothing more than a pretty rock. For all his searching, it hardly felt sentient the way Jalen claimed... and yet, improbable as it seemed, Tempo trusted his word more than his own doubts.

"It takes reflection," Jalen noted, as though recalling his own experience. "In many ways, our senses lie about the truth of the things around us. You see a stone. You feel a stone in between your fingers. But things aren't as they seem. People aren't as they seem."

Jalen leaned over and pressed his forehead to the side of Tempo's head, opening himself to his shorter companion. The young Jedi Knight let his world spill into what Tempo experienced. Colors danced around them like northern lights, the very energy of the universe ebbing and flowing with the wind. It moved around them and through them, resonating like notes in a song. Jalen and Tempo both resonated with their own energy, as did the stone. It echoed them and gave back what they shared with the cosmos.

A reflection.

"We're a part of something grander," he muttered, "but each one in a trillion... Kyber mirrors us. Binds itself to us and amplifies who we are. What we believe in. When a Jedi teeters on the edge and may lose their way, kyber grounds them. Reminds them who they are. It's hard to explain something like that... you only feel it in the soul."

Tempo blinked as Jalen's forehead pressed softly against his own, eyes widening at the sudden closeness. That strange wave of awe rippled through him, and for a moment he froze, until his lashes fluttered shut and he exhaled, surrendering to Jalen's lead.

"Mnn…" he murmured, "that's part of what makes life worth living."

When he leaned back, those muted red eyes caught the blonde's blindfolded calm. A crooked little smirk tugged at Tempo's lips. "Everyone's unique, different in their own way. Variety's the spice of life, y'know?" His tone was playful, but softened at the edges as he nudged closer, brushing his cheek against Jalen's shoulder.

"I was thinking…" Tempo's voice dipped into a teasing sing-song as he nuzzled in, "maybe I'll just move in with you~"

"That's one way to put it..."

Jalen sighed as Tempo nuzzled into his cheek and made the suggestion of moving in. That was bound to happen eventually, right? Moving in was when the barriers were supposed to drop almost completely, or at least that's what Jasper told him. Was that something he was prepared for?

Maybe there was no way to know unless you took a shot in the dark.

"Fine, let's say you do move in," Jalen mused, meeting the suggestion with a diplomatic tone. "We'll have to establish a scheduled of who does what chore. It's only fair that tasks are delegated equally."

Of course, it wasn't all business. It was only just a set up to do a bit of poking of his own.

"I'm sure there's some shelves you can't dust."

"Right then dusting is your chore. " Tempo seemed to agree letting those fangs peek out as he smiled more openly.
"I'll take laundry then. " He chirped simply. " Annnd~ I'll sweep and take care of the bathroom and make the bed~" He said seemingly assigning himself chores with ease, or perhaps there was some devious ulterior motives to such claims. "And when you're sick I'll do all your chores too. " Tempo purred as he moved to slip on long black claw tipped finger to toy with a length of golden blonde hair moving to curl it around his finger playfully.

"I'm a medic," Jalen chuckled. "I never get sick."

It was harder to treat someone when you were sick yourself. It was just bad for work overall. He sat and let Tempo play with his hair, not seeming to mind such things. His posture was relaxed, swaying slightly with the rustle of the grass in the wind.

"I suppose that leaves cooking to me," he mused. "I wake up early anyways. I can do breakfast at least. Unless you want to join me for five'o'clock patrols."

A task he very much enjoyed, admittedly. But Jalen had always been a morning person.

"Early mornings sound awful, " Tempo just about pouted before adding. " But... If you're there I'm sure it'll be much more bearable... Though I'm not sure what to do on a 'patrol'... sounds like it'd be boring as heck. " He mused thinking it over. By all accounts Tempo lived various strange hours or worked nights on most planets doing special deliveries. "I don't mind making dinner every night. " He offered lightly. " No shoes in the bedroom though.. And we'll need a small light.... and no one's allowed to go to sleep angy. Deal?"

"Patrol isn't bad," the young Jedi shrugged. "Just making sure everything is as it should be in the temple. I do a lot of my thinking then."

It was another form of meditation, in a way.

"I'll leave the light to you," Jalen relented. "I doubt I'll be any help picking out lamps. I have a wash station in my suite, so the room is clean. Gotta be clean on the job, remember? Doubt anyone wants dirt in an open wound. And if I'm upset I usually can't sleep, so I'll keep all that business on the couch. Not that I get... angry much."

He wasn't gonna say angy.

Tempo smirked, lashes low as he traced another lock of Jalen's hair around his clawed fingertip.
"Any other demands, my sweet little cupcake? Gotta know all the rules before I sign the 'lease'." His tone was sing-song, as he moved to rest his head gently against Jalen's shoulder.

He let the question linger a moment, then added with a purr, "I'm flexible… so long as I still get first dibs on cuddles."

"Little, huh?" Jalen mused.

There was certainly irony in that. Jalen could probably throw three of Tempo over his shoulder. He'd save it for later. Poking fun at the height difference wasn't funny if you overdid it.

"Just one more thing," he decided. "No hair in my face. Being able to breath would be nice."

Last thing he needed was a purple mass blocking his airways. Maybe purple, anyways. Tempo said that's what color it was. He could've lied. Not that Jalen cared much.

He wasn't gonna see it.
