Wanted: A Few Good Surprises (Part 5)

Location: Drussel.
Objective: Get Down And Get Some Slaves.
Allies: Hutt Cartel & Co.
Enemies: Kay and Co.

"Agh-!" it was the kind of scream that dripped with emotion, the vibration was loud and the rubble shuddered as the mettallic figure pushed aside the slab of concrete that had fallen and now blocked his path, screaming the slavers were under heavy fire and building were exploding from the inside, and to top it all off a taunt.

"Hello Jackals. It seems that not every village is willing to bow down and surrender to you. If you don't want to suffer anymore losses, I suggest that you pack up and crawl back to that desert you call home."

Snip snap.. click clack, it was the sound of him connecting to [member="Lady Kay"], comlink. "Look it was funny the first three times, sure we lost profit but it was," he fingered a thin line that now carved it's way down his inorganic torso, a scratch. "harmless tomfoolery. But now, well what's to stop me coming back here with a slaver fleet and scourging the planet. The slaves would be rarer and worth more if they were the only ones in the galaxy."

"But-" he paused for dramatic affect, he lived and breathed the theatre. "-I'll cut you a deal, bring down your best mercaniary, your best man and I'll allow him to duel me for the fate of Drussel, he wins I shan't lay a finger ever again on Drussel, no cartel man may step foot on it. If I win I'll return and turn it to slag. You have five minutes to give me your answer." Arrogance, hubris, retribution, these weren't words he thought of it was simply another boost to his underworld image, another scratch to mark him out among his peer's in the court of the Hutts, a proving ground and all but him would be left.

Well that message seemed to have struck a nerve. Alarms started to sound as she continued her decent. More ships had arrived and they were not on her side. When at first they appeared to be winning, the Jackals had quietly called for reinforcements. Great.

And then Flannigan hailed her and relayed his offer. She only had five minutes. He clearly wanted this to be on his terms. But if it was to be fair, then some of it had to be on her terms as well.

As her pilot landed his ship 10 kilometres away from the village, Kay hailed him back. "I will agree to the duel, but...my champion must be allowed to choose the terms of the duel as he would be the one fighting and not me. There is to be no interference by anyone else, droid or otherwise. It should be an honourable fight." She paused as she thought about her late husband and the duels he often had. It was getting harder to remember his voice as the time wore on. But back to the business at hand. "If my champion wins, then as you say, Drussel is left alone and no Cartel man, woman, droid or associate will set foot here or try to enslave them again. And if you win, then me and my men will go. It's up to the villagers to defend themselves if they choose to." Another pause. "Call off your forces and order a cease fire and I will do the same. Give us two hours and I will contact you again.....Are we in agreement?"

"You have a deal senator, everyone stand down." this was an open channel, the slight static and the buzz of nematic chatter and mechanised delay, it travelled from one soldier to the next wresting fighting to still beating silence, "Bring your champion, I await my victory."

Solan yawned as he held onto the man and turned his head as he sighed. The fighting was stopping around him and he was going to have fun with this one except he heard over the comms of a new deal and a ceasefire. This was a bit saddening as he let go of the man and just shook his head. Reaching up he spoke into a comlink, ordering his men to stand down the moment they heard his voice. "All combat is to cease, get any of the injured to safety... and let the prisoners go, there is no need to take prisoners." He turned and started off towards the edge of the town. If this was a trap he did not want to be in the village when it was sprung.

Well he was optimistic, she'll give him that. Now to see if he was true to his word or just a lying nerfherder. Kay gathered her satchel, checked to see if she had everything in it, including her small blaster for emergencies and then exited the freighter. As she left she had informed her pilot to wait.

Too bad she didn't have a speeder. Jogging would just have to do. Before starting though she brought up her commlink and spoke to her team. "I'm sure that you all heard that and are standing down. I'm just east of the village, ten kilometres out, but am on my way to you. If you can meet me half way we should be together in a half hour. Unless one of you brought a speeder. [member="Xavka Duquo"] I'd like you to take on Flannigan if you are up to it. Let's pick out where the fight will take place and the rules. But be ready should they fall back on their word. Of course if any of you don't wish to stay, I won't hold it against you. You've all done a fantastic job and I thank you..."

She started her job, figuring that she'd just listen to any of their answers while she was on the move. Hopefully her ship was at a safe distance and hopefully she didn't forget any details in this twist of events.

Having been, seemingly, absent from the bulk of the fighting; Kalous managed to stare down the sights of his blaster rifle upon an unsuspecting slaver without pulling the trigger as the ceasefire was enacted. There was a slight groan of frustration that echoed over his comm system but that groan had a taste of relief spread throughout its tone. This battle had been much shorter than Kalous had anticipated, and yet longer than it actually felt, but he knew that that smart play wasn't always killing every last person involved. The truth of the matter was that Kalous felt that his death would've been just around the corner if the fight had continued. There was a foul sense in the air that seemed to hide a dominating presence that could have eradicated this entire mercenary force with an overwhelming number of blaster bolts.

Lady Kay said:
"I'm sure that you all heard that and are standing down. I'm just east of the village, ten kilometres out, but am on my way to you. If you can meet me half way we should be together in a half hour. Unless one of you brought a speeder. Xavka Duquo I'd like you to take on Flannigan if you are up to it. Let's pick out where the fight will take place and the rules. But be ready should they fall back on their word. Of course if any of you don't wish to stay, I won't hold it against you. You've all done a fantastic job and I thank you..."

Pulling his blaster down to his chest--Kalous had decided to acknowledge the ceasefire as a method that would see him survive into the next few hours--at least. There was an honest disappointment that he wore on his skin with the election of [member="Xavka Duquo"] as the supposed "best fighter" among the mercenaries that [member="Lady Kay"] had hired. The bitter blow to his ego instantly lowered his own, relative, respect for his current employer. Kalous thought--knew--he was the best warrior on this battlefield but he didn't have to correct Lady Kay in her decision to choose a force user over a simple soldier such as himself. That had to be the reason--as far as Kalous was concerned--that special ability had to be why she believed Xavka to be the better fighter than him.

No matter the odds, Kalous had always seen himself come out on top but now his own fate was in the hands of a relatively loose cannon--as far as their previous work together had illuminated his opinion of the man--that could end up losing his life and the lives of the entire group that Lady Kay had hired for her little job. Kalous always knew that this job would be biting off more than he thought this group could chew but he wasn't afraid to take a risk for a big payday. His ship always seemed to need fuel right when the next "big thing" came along to claim his interest and fill his coffers. And with Lady Kay's reinvited opportunity to leave this hopeful bunch without risk of disdain... Regardless, Kalous' interest was piqued.

Wishing he could take Lady Kay up on that offer; Kalous knew that he couldn't allow himself to run from a fight--let alone leaving this rabble to sprout tales about the squid that turned tentacle and ran--and so the doubt crept from his mind as he inched closer and closer to the rendezvous with the mercenary outfit. His eyes were constantly away of what was around him on his trek--keeping as hidden as he could during this ceasefire in case word was broken--but he believed he would make it to Lady Kay without being harmed. If anything, the enemy was bound to wait until everyone was together--outside of their defensive positions--to break their word and kill all of Lady Kay's forces in a single foul swoop.

The likelihood of death seemed far closer now than it had only a few minutes earlier when blaster fire was being exchanged over howls and moans of the injured and dying. There was something about the confidence that was possessed on the battlefield where you knew there was danger as opposed to having the need to be ever vigilant during a simple walk in the countryside when you could be attacked from anywhere at anytime. At least during a fight you knew who was trying to kill you and when they were trying to do it.

"Are you sure that he can win," Kalous would say in hushed words to Lady Kay as he arrived at the rendezvous--making sure that none of the others would hear his concern.

As the second bolt of plasma tore through the, eating up the distance between the end of his rifle's barrel and the head of his target with ease and leaving behind the smell of seared air, Xavka quickly lined his sights up with his third target's head and fired for the third time, causing two streaks of red to travel through the air. Once he had fired his third shot, he ducked back around the corner, not getting the chance to see his second target fall in a manner similar to his first and the third - along with the rest of his team - drop to the floor, while at the same time causing the returning shots to miss him, impacting and scorching the wall where his head had just been.

Reaching out through the Force, Xavka felt three presences remaining at the bottom of the stair. Cursing, he realised that his third shot must of missed and, from the feel of it, not even wounded his target.

Acting quickly, Xavka shrugged his shoulder once, dislodging the rifle from where it hung and withdrew his sword. Focussing, he began to direct the Force to flow through his sword even as he kept a section of his mind separate so as to monitor the remaining targets. Feeling the three slavers begin to move up the stairs, Xavka broke his momentary meditation and removed a thermal grenade from his belt. Tossing it around the corner and onto the stairs, a feeling of satisfaction shocked through him as he heard all three survives drop to the ground before detonation. The resulting explosion extinguished one of the remaining presences.

Taking the momentary distraction, Xavka leapt around the corner, his hand and claws of his left arm stretched out while his sword was cocked back in his right hand. Landing heavily on one man, he drove the man further into the floor with his weight before swinging his sword into a vertical position, just in time for a bolt fired from a blaster pistol to impact against it. Reaching out into the Force, he directed the threads of it to wrap themselves around the neck of his attacker before willing them tangible.

The chocked gasping and death rattle of the man soon filled the silence as the slaver was choked to death by an intangible presence that he could not fight, every wild and desperate shot he fired towards the Zabrak ending his life being blocked by a sword consumed in a blue aura that cloaked it. Eventually the slaver dropped to the ground as if his bones had disappeared as his final breathe left him.

Xavka had just turned his attention to the man pinned beneath him and was about to end his life with a sword to the skull when the comms crackled into life and Lady Kay's words came through. Sighing, Xavka leant down to whisper into the ear of the restrained man beneath him. "You're lucky I follow a code of honour and that we're in state of temporary peace." Swinging his arm down as he leant back from his hissed speech, the hilt of his sword cracked against the slaver's head, driving him into the land of unconsciousness.

Sighing to himself, Xavka began to make his way out of the building the way he had come in as, once again, Lady Kay's voice came over the comms, this time addressing him and his allies. Lifting a hand to his ear as he began to jump from roof top to roof top once again, heading in the direction of the indicated rendezvous point, Xavka opened his link to the comms. "I'm fine fighting the Jendeis." Keeping his moment of speaking short, Xavka continued to leap from building to building, the Force flowing through and imbuing each limb.

Arriving at the mentioned spot a half hour later, Xavka slowed his pace form a Force empowered sprint into a slow walk as he made his way over to Kay and Kalous, his sensitive hearing only just picking up the Nautolan's comment. His upper lip curled back in a silent snarl, exposing his pointed teeth and fangs as he spoke up upon reaching the pair.

"Malikep." He addressed Kalous first, his rough voice carry a restrained tone of venom. "My lady." He offered a quick bow to his current employer. "Shall we discuss the planning of location and a back up plan now?"

Kay slowed down once she saw Kalous approaching and waited for him to arrive. Soon after him was Xavka, her chosen champion for the time being.

"Thank you for coming and please don't fight amongst yourselves. Each of you are skilled in different areas. It's why I hired you. I think that in the case of Flannigan, Xavka might have a slight advantage. Kalous, I will need you to ensure that there is no cheating and that the rest of the Jackals don't get involved."

She then turned her attention to Xavka. "You can pick where the fight should take place. You know what would work for you and what wouldn't."

Kay turned her attention back to the two of them. "As for a back up plan...if things start to look like they are going badly, I'll go back to my freighter and bring them over to the caves, taking as many as I could out of here and then pick you guys up."

Kalous let his blaster fall against his chest while his hands reached for the sky. His arms stretched outward in the grandest shrugging motion that he could muster for such an occasion. It was obvious to Kalous that [member="Xavka Duquo"] didn't have the friendliest intentions toward him, and it should've seemed that way during their previous debacle as well, but Kalous had tried to give him the benefit of the doubt. Playtime was over and Kalous knew that he wouldn't find a great ally in the man who sought to test him as much as he tested himself. It was a strange predicament to be so disliked when there really hadn't been much between the two to begin with.

"You didn't answer my question, your majesty," Kalous spoke in words soaked in sarcasm toward [member="Lady Kay"] but not so much that it wouldn't be construed as a light-hearted jest. "But if you want to pin your hopes on someone without self-control, fine by me! Just don't expect me to not say those four magical words that make me feel all warm and squishy on the inside."

Finishing his lecture with a flourish of his hands and a bow of his head; Kalous rested his right hand on the grip on his blaster rifle while his left gently graced the top of the rifle--just below the sight. Kalous would leave it to Xavka to win this silly fight. Kalous liked to dream about honor and ritual but he wasn't much for botching a clear advantage that would leave their opponent unguarded to the soldiers around him. If he hadn't had orders to allow the two to fight then Kalous would assuredly use a "dirty trick" in order to see his target dead and the morale of the enemy forces broken in one fell swoop. All's fair in love and war.

"And heck," he began again as he finally turned to face Xavka--allowing both Lady Kay and Xavka to observe his open body language as he did so. "Even you could win with the help of that magical mojo you've got. Anyone can get lucky."

Smirking as he finished his words; Kalous decided to take a few steps back from the duo that he had been conversing with in order to place some distance between himself and the plan that he was forced to accept. Body language could tell a lot about a situation, or a person, but it was the unique quality of Kalous' species--his tendrils--that allowed him a greater sense to the feelings that were being stirred around him. Just enough to get him riled.

In truth, it was Kalous' intention to stir the pot and see what rose to the top. He wanted to make sure that Xavka had the emotion that he needed to win the fight and show Kalous how wrong he supposedly was about the fighting skills of Lady Kay's chosen champion. He sought a delicate balance, however, that wouldn't make Xavka too emotional. Emotions in a fight were helpful until they overpowered sense and logic--then they were dangerous.

"If you are losing though," Kalous began for a final sentiment. "Give me a signal and I'll kill him for ya. I couldn't be held accountable for your death. I don't wanna split my earnings to pay for a funeral. Those things are expensive!"

Kay just smirked as he poked fun at her expense due to her choices. She folded her arms across her chest signalling that she didn't like what she was hearing, but he was allowed to have his say. "I know that it's not ideal for you. And if I were to choose differently, then Xavka might be reacting in the same way that you are. But understand that I need your skills too. I'm sure that this idea of Flannigan's isn't a spur of the moment thing. He has a plan in mind and the only way that we can find out what that is and beat him is to follow through with this."

Kay sighed and then looked to Xavka. "I don't like this either, yet I wasn't prepared to fight an army either. Now we haven't much time fore I need to contact Flannigan again."

While Kay and Kalous both spoke Xavka had been silent, running the claws of his hand over the thin metal links of the chain wrapped around his waist, the soft clicking of the action echoing within his ears as his mind ran through the numerous attacks he could possibly do and what type of space he would need to preform them.

His one visible eye snapped open as the brunette addressed him, his gaze focussing on Kay. His eye flickered around the area for a few seconds, taking note of the fact that Kalous had retreated a few steps, before returning to Kay. The movement of his hand stilled as it came to rest on the hilt of his sheathed sword.

"I don't know the lay of the land for the surrounding area well enough to pick out a specific area I would like to fight in." Xavka sighed as he ran his hand through his head where it was not pressed down beneath bandages, carefully avoiding his horns. A wry grin grew on his lips, "You wouldn't happen to have any ideas would you Kay? Anywhere with a wide open space would be perfect."

Kay looked around them. This space was wide enough, especially the area near her ship. It would be big enough and if they were near her ship, then they could escape quickly if need be.

"This is good enough for that, I think. We're out of the town and there's little places to hide so we'd be able to spot an ambush coming. I'll send the message to Flannigan."

She brought out her commlink and opened the channel. "This is Senator Kay. Flannigan McNash, the designated location for your duel is to take place one kilometre outside of the town in the clearing. We're waiting for you here. And I do hope that you are a man of your word, otherwise you'll lose any kind of co-operation from me in the future." It wasn't much of a threat, but it was a little something, meaning that her missions against him and the Cartel won't be ending here.

"What makes you think if I break my word that you'd get another chance," he marched to the base of the Huttsman and with a mechanical rubble and growl he was aboard his stinger speeder, zooming across the landscape tossing up motes of dust and debri small showers of pebble loose amongst the thrust and drive of the speeder. "you've been lucky so far but what will happen when it runs out." determined to get the last word he silenced communication, "[member="Cadan Tazi"], bring yourself and a few men to my location announce yourself, I want the men to see this."

---
He arrived with a 'thoom' the storm of dust running over him and his bike as he drew to a stop, nine meters away from [member="Lady Kay"], and [member="Xavka Duquo"]. "This is your champion, for your sake I hope he is more impressive than he looks." he stood removed himself from the bike, the plates of his metallic form slid over each other expanding as he gained his full height, the digits of his pointed hand scalpel like in the metal giant's hands. Its upper-arms are similar to extraordinary cranes, and its lower legs end in savage, pronged claws. No skin or hide can be seen underneath the shabby red coat that cover it's upper abdomen to it's feet, just being spread separated as he strolled. "Hm.." a dry blast of air just unmistakable by the rings of vapour that break from its vox-box.

Cadan had recieve the message from Flannigan and began to muster what troops he could. They then set off to meet Flannigan.

Once there Cadan looked to Flannigan. "You got this boss!" Cadan shouted, which was joined by the chorus a around 20 other pirates and scum. This fight was to settle who would have control of the planet, and the pirates wanted this planet to be theirs. Plus, maybe after this they could finally capture Lady Kay.

[member="Flannigan Mcnash"] [member="Lady Kay"] [member="Xavka Duquo"] [member="Kalous Anson"]

With his words, seemingly glanced over by [member="Xavka Duquo"] and [member="Lady Kay"], Kalous found himself wanting. He was wanting for a response to his goading behavior. That was simply a response he would never receive as [member="Flannigan Mcnash"] whipped around on his speeder. Kalous' own shock at a lack of retort was something that took him longer than it should to get over. He was still running over his zings in his mind to see if his own delivery of his demeaning words had missed their mark but he could find no lack of punch in his lines. It was almost as if nobody wanted to play with him anymore and Kalous knew that feeling all too well.

For a brief moment; Kalous was caught in self-reflection, and reminiscence, of childhood games that he was never allowed to participate in. Unlike most stories of being picked last and ostracized for--and with lack of better words--sucking, he was pushed away by his peers for competing too hard in the face of adversity. His own nature was something that was as inescapable as his quick wit and itchy trigger finger. In truth, this lonesome feeling had helped push Kalous into his former career of professional Gravball player but not without cost. The cost of friendship was, sometimes, the hardest to overcome when all you cared about was winning at all costs.

Flannigan Mcnash said:
"This is your champion, for your sake I hope he is more impressive than he looks."

The arrival of the enemy leader seemed to snap Kalous out of his own mind and back into the present. His hands were always at the ready to pull his rifle from his chest but he had enough control over himself to keep that from happening... for now. Instead, Kalous deftly sidestepped his way in between Flannigan and Lady Kay--closer to the one who was paying him for this venture--as if acting as a Nautolan shield. There was no telling what kind of plan that this enemy leader had in store for this meeting--afterall, Kalous was just as deceitful and devious as anyone else involved in this little shindig.

"He really isn't," Kalous began in response to Flannigan. "I keep trying to tell her but nobody ever listens to me. I mean, it's oh so hard when you're always right and nobody ever listens to you. Know what I mean?"

Holding his left hand up in a waiting gesture toward Flannigan; Kalous intended to start again just before anyone tried to respond to his rhetorical statements.

"No, of course you don't," he said, shaking his outstretched hand before returning it to the barrel of his rifle. "Honestly, does nobody ever think of staying inside their giant metal death machines and raining down bombs on each other anymore?! Pitiful."

It was when he finished his diatribe, however, that [member="Cadan Tazi"] arrived with a gaggle of villainous scum and rabble that seemed to be a tad much for one man and a senator to take on--especially because Kalous was betting on a quick death for his partner in crime, Xavka. He was certainly in the mood to be pleasantly surprised by Xavka's fighting skills and increase the odds to 21 to three but he had to take the most pessimistic route to ensure his own safety. Even if Xavka did win; the numbers there were now strewn in front of the small detachment on mercenaries were foreshadowing a dreadful outcome no matter the circumstances of this wager.

"But heck, if I'm gonna die, I might as well die without regrets, right," Kalous exclaimed loud enough to, hopefully, draw attention away from his maneuver and to himself as a form of misdirection.

Stealthily, and without any jarring moves, Kalous turned his profile so that his right side would face all the enemies before him. This maneuver was a simple prelude to his left hand slipping from the barrel of his rifle and to one of the two thermal detonators that were still strapped to his left thigh (If I miscounted let me know!). With his deft hand Kalous removed one of those very detonators and erratically wound his arm back--carefully hiding the spherical grenade from the eyesight of the men before him--and pushed it forward to--seemingly--give his employer a sharp smack to her rear end. He was hoping her reaction would be to send at least one of her hands to deter his action in order for him to pass the detonator in his hand into hers. He wanted to at least give her some hope of escape if things should turn sour.

Kay's smirk to Kalous was her retort. She'd of gotten into it further, but time was ticking and sometimes her speeches can be a bit long. And annoying to some.

Flannigan's remarks before he cut off communication also caused her to smirk. Everyone's luck runs out eventually. But with Kay, she was if the mind that when one door closes, another one opens. Always the optimist.

And then he arrived on his speeder bike. Kay had only seen him in person once or twice before and she always found his gaze to be a bit unnerving to say the least. Cadan soon arrived and with more men than she was comfortable with. He had always told her how he longed to see her in chains and she would be damned if it were to happen today.

As Kalous spoke to him, Kay folded her arms across her chest and narrowed her eyes slightly. It wasn't as though she never listened, she was just stubborn. After he 'smacked' her bottom she grabbed his wrist. "Hey!" No doubt the pirates would chuckle as she was not used to being treated in such a way. But then she noticed how he didn't quite hit her with an open palm. As she let go of his wrist, her fingers touched the detonator. She stepped into him, poking one finger into his chest as she slipped the detonator into her satchel while she spoke forcefully, "No one EVER touches me like that! And if you want to get the rest of your money than I HIGHLY suggest that you treat me with better respect. I am not some pleasure slave! GOT IT?!" Well that was a bit over the top, but she had hoped that it was a good enough distraction. Feeling that she got her point across, she glared at him and then stepped back, folding her arms across her chest once more.

A small gust of wind burst past Cadan, throwing his coat around, although the fabric clung to him not wanting to let go. Was it deaths cold breathe letting everyone know that he/she was around, was it the conjoined flatulence emitted from multiple pirates, maybe it was the mystical force showing itself. It could have been anyone one of these things, but after all this, it was just a stray breeze.

Cadan stared at his archnemisis as she danced around with her 'lover'. She was everything Cadan dispised in the galaxy, all it would take was for him to sling out his pistol and pull the trigger and she would be down. But Cadan held off. There would be time enough for that later.

For now all Cadan could do was stare daggers at her, and that is what he did.

"No," those eye's rolled with mechanical proficiocency, they sharpened and the red ringed glow spread further casting adject shadows over his face creating small movements in the dull light. "I will not fight a living joke that the spaces gods have decided to mock me with, I'll fight squid head. Afterall Kay, if I destroy your boyfriend in front of you, well you might just think next time instead of acting on impulse to annoy me." he addressed the duo, giving [member="Kalous Anson"], the first glare than finally steeling on [member="Lady Kay"].

He swaggered towards them, his hand hovering above a sword strapped to one of the many belts that permitted his figure, a vibro sword that in the image of a cutlass, and slightly above that a Vibrorapier. And one sonic blasters, located on his left side near his belt.

'swish' he pulled a long heavy cutless from his belt, there was a low heavy hum that permitted the heavy jeweled form of the sword, it vibrated or atleast shook it was clearly a vibro sword and the pommel was rimmed with ripe red jewels. He swiped it across the centre left of his abdomen, leaving the air in front of him humming with the passage of the blade, forming a figure eight with his jabs, he tested the weapon..

Kay could just feel those daggers coming from Cadan's eyes as he glared. She looked at him with an air of defiance about her. It was obvious that she wasn't fond of him either.

Then her attention was brought back to Flannigan. One look at that vibrosword made her very glad that she wasn't fighting hum. But then thus wouldn't be the type of duel that she'd agree with personally. She'd more than likely duel him over a game of chess, swimming laps in the ocean or the cooking of steaks. Anything but a physical fight.

His words of course were ridiculous. "Boyfriend? He's no more my boyfriend than Cadan is yours." Kay was quite certain that she could annoy Flannigan without speaking.

Every moment seemed like an eternity to Kalous as he waited for person after person to speak and acknowledge all that was going on around this circle of impending doom. Kalous' vision shifted back and forth--between [member="Flannigan Mcnash"], [member="Cadan Tazi"], and the remaining pirates and slavers to allow himself that extra second to react should any discover his plot with [member="Lady Kay"]. It was a simple solution to a lingering problem--holding the group hostage with a thermal detonator--but the best way this could end would be for Kalous to step up and do battle with the man whom he was hired to defend Lady Kay from in the first place.

Remaining a step in front of his charge--Lady Kay--and a tad to her right; Kalous was in ample position to make a quick reaction should he need to. Things weren't always as simple as point and shoot in today's galaxy, and however he may yearn for the simplicity of being told to unleash himself upon all those who should oppose him there was a dichotomy that was so strike it caused a sense of ease to perforate his being. This contrast was that of a simple Nautolan mercenary gaining heart to steal away for a passionate defense of a woman whom he had just met only a few weeks before.

The power of emotion was something rather foreign to Kalous outside of the realm of sporting competition. It's true that Kalous was a bounty hunter--a competitor hunting the highest levels of prey--and a former star athlete before that, but this newfound emotion that was seemingly radiating from his mere presence was a drive, a desire, to fulfil his contract by allowing himself to be throw into the ring to test his mettle and risk becoming the very prey that he had been hunting for a time. Crossing that line between the shadows and the light was a decision that somehow came so decidedly easy for him at this moment and that crossing allowed a small sigh to escape his lips--dancing around the voice regulator on his helmet--before being dressed with a few words in response to his foe.

Flannigan Mcnash said:
"I will not fight a living joke that the spaces gods have decided to mock me with, I'll fight squid head. Afterall Kay, if I destroy your boyfriend in front of you, well you might just think next time instead of acting on impulse to annoy me."
"Squid head, really," he replied rhetorically with a slight shake of his head and a slide of his right foot just behind him to balance himself. "At least come up with something original!"

Lady Kay said:
"Boyfriend? He's no more my boyfriend than Cadan is yours."

"Regardless," Kalous decided to pile on to Lady Kay's words with a slight motion of the crown of his head toward her. "I'm sure he has the same perfectly innocent thoughts I have including metal bikinis, chains, and a Hutt costume, but that's neither here nor there."

Smirking under the protection of his helmet; Kalous stood at the ready. Kalous was dressed in his usual combat gear-- his chest, forearm, shoulders, and boots covered in armor--with all of the bells and whistles he would need to feel moderately secure in his own safety. He possessed his two bluebolt blaster pistols--one on each hip--his favored ARC-9965 blaster rifle slung across his shoulder, one thermal detonator on his left thigh, a collapsible stun baton on his right thigh, a grapnel launcher on his left wrist, and a hidden razor in his right gauntlet. All of these tools--accompanied by his helmet with a full HUD display that just screamed that he was cooler than you!

"So, what's the deal," he inquired with a shrug of his shoulders. "You run at me with that oversized toothpick and I shoot you before you get to me. Game over. I win. We all go to a strip club and help pay for some university tuition, or at I missing something?"
