Walk In Shadow

Jairdain had met this person long ago. At a point in her life when she was happy and content. The opportunity had been given to her then to get away from Commenor for a time. Now things had changed for her. Galactic war had happened. The Alliance and now Commenor had fallen prey to the Sith and Jairdain was on Kashyyyk with the feeling of a loss surrounding her.

However, she had a duty to attend to and perhaps it would help take her mind off her personal issues. Kurenai requested to meet her and wanted to learn a few skills. Agreeing to meet on Kashyyyk it was a good thing she was already there.

Waiting in the Jedi Temple they had set up, she waited for her new student to appear.

To say Kurenai needed training in mental force powers was an understatement, such being even more of a kick in the gut if people were to find out how old she really was. So often did many think that she was just automatically good at everything force related or some sort of master, only to be disappointed when someone who using force stasis and similar power could just take her out with a small wave of the hand.

Unfortunately there were very few people among the CIS with the time on their hands to offer training to the run down mercenary, even less with the skill set she had in mind to use. As such, once again Kurenai was now wondering around the home of the silver Jedi Temple, herself waiting patiently in main garden for Master [member="Jairdain"], thankful that the woman was willing to hear her out on the subject, not everyday the Jedi seeming taught someone who was known to be a dark side user.

The call or alignment of a person had never really truly mattered to Jairdain. Only when that alignment actually got in the way of working with people did it actually mean anything. All she knew was what her calling was and the path she was on.

Perhaps this opportunity was a blessing in disguise and would work out well. It would keep her mind off her problems for a time and teach some valuable skills to another. That was one of her purposes...to pass on what she knew. A day would come where she wouldn't be around and the more she could teach, the better.

Kashyyyk was a world full of life and they had agreed to meet in the garden. Just where the garden was could be difficult to find, but eventually Jairdain found what she was looking for. Approaching Kurenai, she nodded.

"Hello, it is good of you to come all the way out here. I hope your journey and welcome here have been acceptable."

[member="Kurenai Yumi"]

Kurenai could feel [member="Jairdain"] signature in the force long before the woman came into eye sight, giving a small customary bow to the Jedi master as she approached. "This is not the first time I have been at the temple, my presence is expected every now and then, have to visit my children every now and then do I not". "Though I would not say everyone is please with my being here, though that is more to past interaction and differing of options then my alignment in the force", a certain Echani high born and the young Padawan of Jyoti being said people.

"Anyways forgetting all that I appreciate you putting time aside to show me some technique on the force, I never had a teacher and more or less just learnt what I know through trial and error". "As such I may have a slightly difficult time catching onto any specific teaching methods you put forward, I hope that is not to much of a challenge".

[member="Jairdain"]

As was the case of too many people, what skills they learned had been done on their own. With no real formal training, they lacked somebody to give them proper guidance. Sometimes it ended up causing more harm than good. Jairdain did not think that was the case with this woman though.

Giving her a nod when Kurenai mentioned visiting her children, she understood. Not yet having any of her own, she did know of the need to visit family. If only she could see her own parents again.

"What are you wanting to learn? Your message indicated mentalism and that I can certainly help with."

[member="Kurenai Yumi"]

Wanting to learn that was a problem, she was unsure of what types of mental force skills there were to learn, out of most of the mental force powers she only persuasion was something she had a grasp of. Though if there was a force power to start off with force stasis would probably be the power that took her out of her most recent military engagement. "I guess a good place to start would be with force stasis, I have been subjected to it before and it seems like a good skill to get my head around, also ways to resist it lest I be taken down by it again". Reverse engineer she had been told by members of the Obsidian Knights, how that works she was unsure or if it was just some sort of motivation. "That is unless you have a better technique in mind to teach someone of my novice nature".

[member="Jairdain"]

The mental abilities were only limited by a person's ability and imagination. Some of them effected a person mentally and others in a physical manner. One thing Jair did not actually know in a formal manner was stasis. The theory behind it was easy, but she had neither performed it or ever been held in a stasis field.

"Alright, we can start there and both learn something. First off, as a general rule physic or mental skills are based quite often on your own willpower. The stronger willpower that you have the easier it is to force yourself on another or break away from it."

Since she had never actually attempted a stasis, she looked at Kurenai with a sense of focus though the Force.

"Please place a stasis hold on me and I will attempt to break out of it just through willpower alone. Now another way to get out of such a hold is to somehow distract your assaulter. If you can perform the basic skill of telekinesis, then lift something heavy and hit them with it."

[member="Kurenai Yumi"]

Kurenai cocked an eye brow, from what she knew froce stasis was a fairly novice force users, even so she knew the basics about it, only problem was if her attempt would have any effect on [member="Jairdain"] herself. Still practical lessons were always the best. that was something the two could both agree on to some extent, even if their methods were very different. "Hmmm willpower, if I know that then that little Echani boy would probably not be alive... alright I am ready to go".

Taking a stable stance Kurenai called the force forwards, trying to work her way around and into the mind of Jair, trying to make her still, induce some form of drowsiness to make her weaker. Though a strong force user Kurenai was not very refined, her attempt though perhaps being strong probably lacked the pin point accuracy or ideal form to properly effect the Jedi master in any way.

What some people might consider something fundamental others did not. This stasis hold was one for Jairdain, nobody had taught it to her and she had never given it a thought. Until now. Once she understood the basics, she would learn it quickly and then be able to teach it to others.

She fully allowed Kurenai to dominate her in this part of the lesson. Feeling the sense of the hold around her, she wondered if it might be a variation of a choke. Something to look into certainly and explore that possibility. The attempt at making her drowsy did not work, but the hold certainly did.

Taking a moment to focus her energy and willpower, Jairdain essentially made a push or argument against Kurenai's own willpower in her attempt to break the hold. Since this was not a combat situation, she did not follow this up with any form of attack.

[member="Kurenai Yumi"]

Half of her attempt was guess work, but it seemed to be taking effect, Kurenai noticing [member="Jairdain"] becoming still, letting herself be enveloped but never the less remain motionless. The attempt to make her sleeping being a small push that she herself had been subjected to when the power was used by her last force sensitive opponent. While keeping the Jedi master motionless Kurenai started to get a better feel for the force power, perhaps another time her attempt would be more refined.

Keeping the steady hold she awaited Jairs attempt t break free, though was honestly not sure what to expect, a physical attack had force behind it, more over you could see it coming, but a mental attack? She'd get her first taste of it as Jair broke free of her hold, Kurenia's mind being assaulted, pushed, it was strange but at the very least she knew what to expect now. Unfortunately the resistance had caught her off guard, the stasis hold being broken just as easily as it had been set up.

[member="Jairdain"]

Nodding at the results, Jairdain would return with an attempt of her own to place Kurenai in a hold. It might be easier for her to do the fine details on the hold because of her connection to the Force. There was no pain involved, but if Kurenai attempted to move physically there would be a firm resistance to her doing that.

"I'm not going to fight you much in your attempt to break free. But do try to do that with just your willpower alone. A baseline of resistance will be there, but nothing empowered."

After this round, she would show other ways to break free that did involve using the Force.

[member="Kurenai Yumi"]

Kurenai gave a nod, getting into a relaxed stance as Jair started her 'attack'? what ever it was refereed to, soon feeling a strong hold wash over her body, though much different from a physical hold, almost as if her body refused to move, no so much couldn't move. 'Okay... willpower... mental strength, what drives me'. It took a moment or two but slowly Kurenia started to push back against [member="Jairdain"]s stasis hold, her will to push forwards her will to get through even the strongest of oppositions, if she was able to survive this long, through some of the galaxies darkness hours she could break this stasis hold.

She was unaware of how powerful her attempt was to break the hold, not having anything to really scale against, most likely putting more force into it then she should.

The Master was patient with her student and gave her the time she needed to accomplish breaking free. Time was lost on her and Jairdain did not know how long it took before Kurenai made her push against her hold. Since she wasn't really resisting the last out, her hold broke quickly and the other woman was freed quickly.

"Very good. Now in a battle, it's obviously not at all calm like it is here, so you're going to have to think fast quite often."

Even though they were in the garden here, Jairdain had made sure to have a few training supplies brought in. Since this was training, they were pillows. Motioning to them, Jairdain continued where her thought was going.

"Go on and do that same hold again on me. This time I will attempt to find a way to distract you and get out of the hold."

[member="Kurenai Yumi"]

Kurenai let out a small breath as she broke from the hold, knowing [member="Jairdain"] was going easy on her, but a little confidence boots never the least, perhaps she'd be able to attain the rank of a master this century... 80 more to go. "Yes I know that in battle I'll need to be a bit hasty, though to be honest combat does not tend to make my anxiousness anymore, the middle of a war zone is often were I feel the calmest, if that I something you can understand".

Either way constant practice would be the key to furthering said skills, all to do now was find a regular sparing partner to tussle with and test her progress on, though for the moment, just get the basics down. Shaking her hands a little and returning to her original stance, getting ready for the second part of the tutorial, "okay here I go".

This time thing may be a little different, though not use to mental combat anything physical Kurenai could resist... within reason. Extending her hands one more the dark Jedi worked her way around Jair, attempting another stasis hold, full focus on the target itself.

The master nodded at what Kurenai was saying. When she had been holding her with the stasis, she had only had the resistance of what a normal person would in such a situation. It would be up to the other woman to get stronger on her own. Jairdain was just teaching her the basics that she could think of.

"That is really good. So many people just seem to have vapor lock in combat. They loose control or are unable to do anything. If you can believe it, I was once the kind that would freeze up. At least when it came to physical combat. I'll tell you about it some time over drinks."

When she said she was ready to try again, Jairdain stood waiting for the grip to take a hold of her. Once that was done, she picked up with the Force one of the pillows. Aiming it directly at the face of Kurenai, she hoped the example she picked would be enough to break herself free from the hold.

[member="Kurenai Yumi"]

"I know that feeling too,during my first fight, something that you can't be trained for more just attain over time, but less talk about the past and more on training shall we". Last thing Kurenai wanted was to make a slip up as they talked and reveal just how old she is, could cause many problems for her children. "A drink later would be nice... though do you mean tea or alcohol? either if fine".

Waiting for a response Kurenai would again attempt the stasis hold, this time being a little faster then before, mind more focused on what was to be expected and the possible ways to resist [member="Jairdain"] attempts to break free. Over all a futile goal but goo practice never the least, bet try and fail with a master, would make those of lower strength much easier to deal with when the time came.

"Oh whichever. Lately I have been drinking some alcohol, but in the past I've usually had tea or juice."

Turns in life had taken Jairdain down a slightly darker edge. Not within the Force, but with her mentality. These had lead her drink now and then, but she was not yet so far gone down that path that it showed in what she did.

As she answered, she felt the Force grip her. It was much smoother this time and it was clear Kurenai would only improve in her ability to use this skill. Allowing herself to be wrapped up, it was good she did not actually need to motion with her fingers at the pillow to make it move. It might have been one of those blessings for being physically blind. So many things those with sight needed to accomplish things and most Force users did such things.

When the soft pillow smacked Kurenai in the face, that hold was lifted and Jairdain considered returning with a hold of her own right away. Changing her mind, she studied the other for a moment with the Force.

"Are you able to perform telekinesis without moving?"

[member="Kurenai Yumi"]

"Hmm, well it sounds like an enjoyable outing, but at the moment I can't drink any alcoholic beverages due to my latest... uh well it's a littler embarrassing to say, you know.... baby". Dammit why did those thinks always make her feel uneasy. Returning concentration forwards Kurenai focused on her hold, looking as the pillow hit her face, for that small moment her eye sight on Jair failing and for some reason also loosening the hold? "Hu, does this power require constant eye sight? or was it because I shifyed attention onto the pillow instead of you"? The latter was probably a more realistic view, but she'd wait for the master Jedi to explain why. The next question though was something she well, not entirely sure how to answer, "well I believe so though it is not really an aspect I practice much due to my role in the military, moving ones arms and staying vigilant in a fight is often a requirement".

[member="Jairdain"]

She had no children of her own, but understood why Kurenai couldn't drink any alcohol and nodded.

"That's okay. You can always have juice, tea or anything else. Eventually you will be able to drink alcohol again."

That hold took her and when the pillow conntected, it let up enough for her to be able to move. On the battle field it would have been enough to allow an enemy to attack, but it went back into place around her.

"I am blind, Kurenai. If this skill required eye contact then it wouldn't be something I could ever do. No, it's all about your focus. So yes, when you watched the pillow move at you, it would have allowed that enemy to attack. Now the reason I ask about your hand is simple. If it is something you need to do and you are being held...well you wouldn't be able to pick up anything and throw it at the person holding you. Give it a try."

Nodding, she would place a hold on the other woman and make sure it was just tight enough so she couldn't move her hands or fingers.

[member="Kurenai Yumi"]

"Tea would be the most preferred for myself thank you very much", even if she'd probably just wind up making it herself, she did own a tea shop after all with over 700 years to perfect the art. Relaxing a bit she listened to Jair explain her predicament, all about focus, though had to resist face palming upon forgetting that the Jedi master was unable to see. "Ah yes, sorry I forgot about you being blind, my daughter mentioned it enough times for it to become permanent memory".

She gave a short nod as the new little exercise Jari had in mind was elaborated on, a test for her to use just the force, no limbs or anything of that matter. As the hold came around her she once more was locked into a motionlessness position, Kurenai closing her eyes, letting the force flow around, trying to imagine some sort of tendrils that would do her bidding, the same pillow that had just been thrown starting to rise, all but slower then she was usually capable or, hovering in mid air for a few moments before being flung towards [member="Jairdain"]s chest.
