Wagging the tail

Adaptability. It had been his desire in combat, his goal to attain. Something to keep him alive when everything around him was prepared to end his life. And yet, it had taken him so long to start reaching this goal. So long in fact, that it often seemed unattainable. Of course, he blamed that on the jedi. The self-righteous bastards had restricted him with claims of instability, claims that he’d somehow cause massive collateral damage with some force ability that looked frightening, but was actually quite benign.

At the time, the ability in question had been electric judgment. An ability similar to sith lightning in function, but completely different in ideology and lacking of its lethal edge. As time wore on, Vulpesen had actually learned to harvest both. Now, he had been through fights innumerable. People always seemed to think him weak. Why? For what reason? He had never raised a padawan to knight. He made It clear that any friends he might have had on the council, were either very few, or were not on the council for very long. In truth, he was sure that several of them were his friends no longer. But that didn’t matter. What did matter was that he had reached this point on a tide of blood. His own, and that of his enemies. Vulpesen was a master for the simple reason that he could destroy and fight longer and harder than his colleagues. As for the temptations of the dark side, he understood why the jedi feared him. A man trained by war and not a class room. He had always believed practical application was far better than practice in sparring room. Certainly, the fears were not unfounded. But they were proved wrong. Years among the sith and Vulpesen stayed true to his course. To fight the evils of the galaxy. Years among the sith and while he might have accepted it as a part of him, he had yet to fall to the dark side.

They had feared him. They had restricted him. And now, he was free. Vulpesen had cast off the shackles of the Republic. And he had left the powerful grip of the sith. Now he was his own man. Freedom. A place were true learning could begin. Behind him, his tail flicked, prepared itself. No doubt he would feel incredible amounts of stress on the appendage as he trained this new skill. “I guess its time to begin.”

Closing his eyes, Vulpesen called upon the force, as he had s any times before. He focused the energy, letting it flow through him. To be honest, he rarely meditated and when he did, it was always maddeningly calm, so calm in fact that he almost went insane. He craved action. He needed to run, to fight, but NO. He had to keep still and focus himself. More of the galaxy’s power built up in him, rising until the Tenevi was finally ready.
Further he focused the energy, though this time, he placed it in only one place. He felt it flow into his tail, causing the limb to straighten in an attempt to stay still. Much like when he’d been taught to strengthen his own attacks, he did the same to his tail, letting the power build up in it. As he did this, he signaled to Ace, using his Ashlan bond to call his friend over with a large dummy and a man to carry it. As the object was placed, he signaled once more for them to leave and get out of the way.

“Almost…” His tail continued to strengthen and he forced more energy into it. It felt like his bones had been replaced by durasteel and he felt somewhat sorry for anything that might get in his way. He hadn’t done this before and for all he knew he would break his tail off…. He just really hoped that wasn’t what would happen. To put it simply, he liked his tail.

Further. Just a little further. His tail remained straight and he was afraid to move it. From the outside, there would seem to be no problem as the energy was kept internally, but for him it was like a large press was squeezing the tail. Damn, how long would he wait? If this was to happen, he needed to do it right. But if he released too early, he might release the energy in an either adverse, or useless manner. But if he held it for too long, it might prove more than he could take.

He had to stop worrying. His tail wasn’t going to blow itself up. No, there was something else that would be bursting into pieces. He closed his eyes once more, releasing himself to the force and its whims. With a calmer mind, he felt the power rise behind him until the moment he’d been waiting for arrive. It was then, or never.

The Valde moved quickly, shooting off of his knees and sweeping in a circle. Despite the earlier stiffness of his tail, he allowed it to take on a slight curve, adding to its velocity as it raced for the target. The tail slammed into it, midcenter. A direct it, that was good. But how well had he truly done with his strike. He found out a moment later as hay spilled form the dummy, the object of his attack flying into the air with the bag ripped to shreds. Note to self, get more durable training dummies. Still, he was happy to see his success, and there was no damage, no exploding bits attached to his hind end. He’d done it. Most of it was fairly easy though. He knew the skills. He had simply applied them to another place on his body. And there was still one more variation for him to do. Still one thing for him to make sure that he could do. He had just proven that he could use his tail to club anyone in his way. Now all he had to d was see if he could turn this new club into a sword.

His tail flicked a few times, stretching itself out before he started to focus once more. This time, he allowed the force to flow through his body and into the spine of his tail, reinforcing each vertebrae in preparation for the stress. His muscles coiled around the power, causing the already dense muscles of a zorren to contract even more. "Relax..." His body seemed to calm as the force in his tail spread out, flattening into a new shape. His fur splaying out to show the effect, pure force energy had begun to take its place, a pair of wedges on each side. So, the basic shape was an easy feat. Now all he had to do was focus it in such a way as so that he could use it without having his powers plink off like fur instead of steel.
