SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Force Sensitive
  • Lightsaber Crystal
  • Natural Glow: The crystal has a natural aura to it while growing, but the glow fades once it is removed from the parent structure.
  • Focus: The Crystal can be used as a focus for Force Imbuement, offering the item it is incorporated in with a variety of benefits, depending on the Imbuer's intent.
Strengths:
  • Lightsaber Crystal: Arguably the true calling of the Vylmiran Crystal, when used as a lightsaber crystal, it allows the wielder to freeze their image, while entering a state of total visible concealment. The effect is active for up to two seconds, after which the image will evaporate, and the energy visibly move through space to the wielder's physical location, making them visible once again.
  • Force Sensitive: The crystal resonates with the Force, allowing its properties to be altered when not installed in a lightsaber.
  • High Kinetic Resistance: The crystal is highly durable to blunt force, requiring special gem-cutting tools to cut.
  • Cutting Edge: The crystal increases the cutting power of the Lightsaber that houses it.
Weaknesses:
  • Minimal Physical Resistance: While the crystal is highly resistant to blunt force, blasters and lightsabers can destroy it with extreme ease.
  • Rare: The Crystal is only found on Vylmira, and thus is quite expensive to procure, particularly to those outside the Confederacy.
  • Component: The crystal serves little purpose on its own, save for decoration. It is a component for lightsabers and alchemy/Imbuement.
  • Siphon: Born of the Darkness, the Crystal's innate ability siphon's the wielder's life force to charge the ability, meaning that frequent use will kill the user. Using it too often in a small span of time will induce nausea, dizziness, and can potentially cause loss of consciousness.
  • Meditation: The crystal cannot function as a lightsaber crystal without the creator first bonding with the Crystal. The lightsaber is unusable by anyone but the creator. This meditation also prevents any other effect from being imbued in the crystal.
  • Blowback: When used as a lightsaber crystal, the Crystal bonds so deeply with its creator that an actual Force Bond is created. Should the crystal be destroyed, the wielder will be subjected to a considerable amount of psychological (And possibly physical) trauma.
  • Force Ghost: While the Lightsaber effect grants "Total concealment," the individual is still very much detectable by Sensors or The Force. This effect is visual only.
  • Kinetics: While the crystal is resistant to kinetics, any attempt to convert this to a usable defensive material will weaken the crystal to an unusable degree.
  • Dark Side: These crystals were born of the Dark Side. Only a skilled Saber Smith will posses the skill required to purge them of the dark, and maintain its inherent attribute.
  • Cutting Edge: Though this crystal can offer increased cutting edge capabilities, it does not enable the lightsaber to cut through materials it could not previously cut through, only enhances existing ability.
DESCRIPTION
Originating from the colony world of Vylmira, the aptly named Vylmiran Crystal first appeared around 1540 BBY, during the Sith Incursion. Though the crystalline structures occurred naturally before the Incursion, the advent of the Force Nexus changed and warped the crystals, the primary deposit of which was located deep beneath The Great Temple. The resulting structure was a crystal highly attuned to the Force, and very suitable for the construction of Lightsabers.

The Sith Incursion happened in 3653 BBY when a restless Sith Spirit took control of a young Miraluka, and returned to Vylmira disguised as his host to subjugate the planet into a ritual to restore his own vitality. The resulting skirmish killed hundreds, and drove the remnants of the Luka Sene from the planet. Though the Miralukan was freed from the Sith's grasp, his plan was already in motion, and another, more suitable host was found. Through the years, the Sith was thwarted by the remaining members of the Luka Sene, and the Vylmiran Council. But he could not be defeated. Through an ancient spell, now lost to time, the Sith bound the planet to a single point within time.

As the spell began to affect the planet, more and more effects began to emerge. The Force was now everywhere, binding the planet in its prison. Tainting the very essence of the place they called home. The Dark Side ran rampant, and for thousands of years, it was uncontested, save for the valiant efforts of the Vylmiran Council, and the Hunters that called themselves her allies. And so, the Force found balance; Ever in struggle, always in turmoil. The changes were subtle at first, centered around the Great Temple. Hardly noticeable. But as the Force coalesced into a Nexus, the Force began to mold the planet into the shape given it.

The powerful Seers of the Force, by their actions, bent the Force to their image. Sight. The basis of the Force. And Evil is never truly evil. Simply a perversion of good. The Crystals, buried deep beneath the Great Temple, heart of the darkness that plagued Vylmira, were the first such to become infected by the perversion of sight. To bend the reality, and betray the senses. But dormant they sat for millennia. Until the fateful day when Vylmira was freed. Only then were the crystals discovered. In time, the saber smiths determined their applicability, and discovered the perversion within. The ability to bend the very fabric of perception.

Experiments were run, tests conducted. The crystal, very much a product of the darkness, sought to maintain its own balance through nefarious means. As energy was expended from the crystal, it would consume energy from the one holding it, to fill its own void. The results, however, could not be argued with. The ability to seemingly dance across the fabric of reality was a heady notion. And one that certain beings took to quickly. The findings were brought before the Council, and the command was issued. This newfound weapon could prove beneficial to the realm of war. The High Councilor took a crystal of his own, and vanished to his retreat in the mountains. Those responsible for the collection of the crystal did so, as instructed by their lords, to move Vylmira, and her host nation, to a new era of bladesmanship.

And so, time spins on. From the cataclysm that created them, more perversions of The Sight are sure to come. Some occurring already, some not to occur for another millennia. A day may come when the Force will correct itself. When a Chosen One will rise again. To erase the perversions and the pure, and destroy the disparity, returning the galaxy to formless ash once again. Until then, the perversion remains. A reminder of what once was. And a weapon against what may yet be...
