Objective 1
PROTECT OUR CITIZENS
Following the removal of pirates from Ilum, the band of criminals have been tracked
to Ool, where informants indicate a raid is currently underway on a local Chiss
farming community. The Ascendancy military must step in and protect its
citizens, to stop their stocks and homes from being raided and sacked, and the
Chiss people killed...
Objective 2
THE PIRATE STRONGHOLD
Deep within the Ool forests is an ancient stronghold, which has been revealed by the CEID
as the hideout of the pirate organization. This large structure, mainly hidden underground,
is believed to contain the majority of the pirate's stores and stolen goods. In order to take
the pirates by surprise, and to take advantage of the nearby raid, the Ascendancy must
infiltrate and subdue any guards present, before taking control of the stronghold and
stopping reinforcements from returning to protect it.
Objective 3
IMPORTED FAUNA
In an attempt to occupy their time, the pirates have imported a range of dangerous and hostile
animals from other worlds, hunting them for sport. Not a cruel culture, the Ascendancy has requested
members of the Ascendancy - and hired help - to assist in the capture and removal of the creatures,
so they can be loaded onto transports and returned to their homeworlds as available. Beware, as
some of the species are very hostile, and could prove difficult in detaining...

Ool.

For as long as the Chiss Ascendancy has been in the Unknown Regions, some planets have continued to serve as important resources to its survival. One such planet is Ool, which is a world covered in vast forests intermingled with large farming communities. These farms - while large - are located within cleared areas of forest, with layouts comparable to large crop circles, with each community having housing for farm workers scattered throughout the area. Unfortunately being so close to the forests comes with its own dangers, as awareness of the perimeters of these communities is limited by dense brush and trees. The result of late has been sudden pirate raids, of which there is little preparation to defend against...

According to the latest intel, one of the larger farming communities - Qsor Village - is currently under pirate attack, with the criminals raiding and ransacking in a considerable force. The Ascendancy military has arrived above planet, sending rapid marine and combatant transports to land nearby in the forests where able, with the intent of countering the pirate assault to protect the farmers and their families.

Meanwhile, Chiss Intelligence has discovered a nearby stronghold that has been used by the pirates as their main base of operations for the surrounding systems. From initial scans, the building is mainly underground, with numerous levels containing large storage areas connected by narrow passageways. Since the pirate raid is taking place at Qsor Village, this has left the stronghold vulnerable to infiltration; the goal is for a force of Chiss - and any allies - to sneak into the base, neutralize any guards, and reclaim the stolen goods and supplies to then protect until reinforced by CEMC forces.

Additionally, the pirates seemed bored when not raiding, and have brought several dangerous species to the planet to hunt for sport. These imported creatures are suspected to be small in number, not having had the time to breed or establish lairs, but initial reports indicate they could be extremely hostile. Those capable of hunting and tracking, including hired help under Ascendancy contract, are requested to locate and capture these creatures, to then have them contained and shipped off planet to their homeworlds as available. The Chiss do not want to kill the creatures unnecessarily, so taking them dead should be an absolute final resort.

And finally, for those seeking to find their own way on Ool, there remains numerous opportunities to explore within the vast forests on the world...

X5BpgBb.png
And so, following the arrival of the Ascendancy fleet and force deployment, the fate of the pirates on Ool awaits...

UNKNOWN REGIONS

Above planet Ool; Ool System.
Objective X: Provide system-wide security against pirate forces.
The Vesci arrived in the system alongside the CEDF Second Fleet, positioning above the planet Ool. Defensive in formation, expecting possible pirate fleet retaliation for the move against the system, Mitth'orn'eruod was prepared. Yet, until confirmation of enemy vessels in the region was confirmed, the Chiss fleet would remain in a cautionary state of alert.

"Begin sector scans," The Admiral ordered, as he stood before his command panels. Information was beginning to filter through, filling the screens. "If there are pirates waiting nearby, we do not want to be caught unaware. Also have vessels from Talon Two move into protective formation of the support vessels, creating a screen between us and the planet."

From one of the nearby pit crews, a young officer called out.

"Sensors indicate ships on the edges of the system, sir," She said, working on the control panel quickly. "A sizable force, but initial scans don't have much data beyond numbers. So far a dozen individual craft have been pinged."

"Should they begin moving toward us, alert me immediately," Mitth'orn'eruod said, before turning to communications. "Contact the CSD G'enraszert, have them activate interdictor fields. Also prepare fighters and launch them in our sensor shadows, have them maintain position and prepare to engage on command."

And so, while the Chiss fleet waited for action from the potential enemies on the edge of the system, crews began preparing and launching and activating ship-wide systems. Until such time as the pirates engaged, though, it would be a waiting game...

When opportunity knocks, no matter what form it comes it, the Eclipse Consortium was hard pressed not to respond. Their contacts in the CEID got wind of pirates bringing dangerous predators from offworld and bringing them to Ool for sport. While the Chiss Ascendancy wanted the slaughter stopped, the Eclipse Consortium saw credits in this venture. As usual, the criminal organization found a way to satisfy their needs and that of the Chiss Ascendancy. But the Chiss of the Ascendancy did not need to know how the situation was being resolved, only that it was being taken care of…

Of course, the Interstellar Shipping company was there to provide aid for these poor creatures and transport them off of the planet. Interstellar Shipping security teams would work to secure the creatures and bring them back to their natural habitats…

Well, at least that was the story and they were sticking to it. In truth, these creatures fetched a pretty penny in the open market. Discreet, discerning buyers were already lined up for the acquisition of these creatures that were “astray”. The Eclipse Consortium did not care what they were used for—as long as the slaughter ceased within the borders of the Chiss Ascendancy. Such was the way of things…

Malicar walked down the cargo ramp with a large security team. They had taken the time to land far away from any of the pirate hunting camps and were able to track the locations of those camps. The idea was to track the pirates, who were tracking the creatures and then kill two birds with one stone: eliminate the hunters and capture the predators. While the strategy was sound, it would be tremendously difficult. But if it were easy, then wouldn’t everyone do it for the credits involved? It would be difficult, but real opportunities were never given, they were taken…

Aboard the CSB Vesci
Objective 1 - Protect our citizens
CEMC readying to deploy to planet
The Vesci's hangar bay was a buzz of activity as the CEMC was preparing to be rapidly deployed to the surface of Ool. The sitrep was that the pirate group they had cleared from the Ilum system had now set up shop on this Chiss agri-world. Pesky little annoying flies that hopefully they were going to swat for the last time.

Flaz'suz'safis was making sure Theta squad was all accounted for before she would board the Chiss Dropship Transport that was flight prepped to take them to a landing zone in the forests outside of Qsor Village. The farming town had been attacked by the pirates who were raiding and ransacking the goods and terrorizing the villagers. The 9th Battalion would engage in a counter attack to protect the citizens and the food stores.

After the last member of the squad boarded, Theta Six turned around and offered his gloved hand to their squad leader. The armored Lieutenant grasped it as she jumped up into the CDT's troop bay with well practice ease. Flaz'suz'safis was closest to the cockpit and reached in through the narrow opening to tap the pilot's shoulder.

"We're good to go," she said, giving a thumbs up before grabbing for the safety handle hanging down from the ceiling of the transport as the blast doors closed for their upcoming launch.

"Ah yes, tis my favorite Marine. We have to stop meeting this way. People will begin to talk, though I for one wouldn't mind that," the cocky CEDF pilot quipped from behind his helmet visor, then he added a moment later after responding to Flight Control.

"We should catch drinks sometime, eh? My treat of course. I'm a good dancer too. I think you'd like my moves."

"Presumptuous, aren't you?! Well, I'll take that under advisement, flyboy. Now, how about concentrating on getting us down safely to the LZ, hmm? No more showing off please. I don't want Six to throw up again."

"I did no such thing.... Okay, yeah, yeah, but at least not in my helmet. That's like a sin, and I'm no sinner. well much."

Kemm'orak'crotho offered a small grin. The bridge crew aknowledged their new captain, aknowledged who held authority over them. Many of them, Kemm'orak'crotho had grown up with. Many of them had passed through the academy with him. He had personally requested that they join his bridge crew, they had run a number of simulations together and knew each others movements without words. They had developed a bond that took years to develop.

He stepped through the open door.

The Voritor had been assigned to him. He was assigned to Mith'orn'eruod, assigned to the 2nd Fleet. He look a moment to look from the viewing windows that surrounded him, admiring the ships that surrounded them. He enjoyed command, enjoyed that behind him sat a group of ships that were his own to command. He would protect them, as was the job of a leader. He would use them to follow out his orders but he would protect them at the same time.

He walked slowly down the bridge, looking at the bridge crew as he did.

He stopped at the apex of the bridge. He placed his hand slowly against the control pannel, looking around the bridge one last time. He was unsure of what to expect, unsure to the reason why he had been called in to assist over Ool. He hadn't heard much about the planet, he didn't know much about it either. He'd make sure to rectify that before anything kicked off, make sure to understand why the planet was so important the Admiral himself had been brought in.

He caught himself staring at the flagship of the 2nd Fleet.

He looked around as he shouted his orders. He wanted to know why he was needed, wanted information on the planet and wanted his fighters ready to launch at a moments notice. It was busy on the bridge as his orders were carried out, a small junior officer running off to get his datapad while another went to ready the fighters for launch. It was showtime, and Kemm'orak, crotho had a reputation to uphold on the field.

"And for those who don't speak the mother tongue. Contact the Admiral, relay his orders directly to me. Keep all of the other frigates steady, ready to move at a moments notice."

His basic was almost fluent. It was one of the things that the academy nailed home. Basic was used across the galaxy, as much as no-one wanted to admit it, it was an extremely useful language to know. Kemm'orak'crotho always found it useful to translate his orders, just made sure no-one missed anything. Those who didn't speak the mother tongue needed to be able to follow his orders too, afterall. It was the only way the ship would operate.

Objective 2

Location: Entry Point for Pirate Stronghold

Hera took a breath as she watched the pirates leave and enter the main entrance of the stronghold. According to all reports, if the Ascendancy could gain the stronghold it would practically end the pirate’s ability to prey on the innocents on the planet. Shouldn’t be too hard to get into the place, at least. If she could just take out a few of the guards, then slowly take out the rest.

Holstered on her simple durasteel armor was a modified silencer blaster along with a viper handgun, outfitted with tranq darts. Sometimes it was easier to simply knock someone out than it was to kill them. And once they had the base under Ascendancy control, the rest should be easy peasy. Hopefully, anyway. Hera wasn’t quite sure how long it’d take for the reinforcements to arrive, but she could hope for fast arrival.

With a deep breath, she slid down the hill she was hiding out on, moving as quiet as a mouse until she reached the edge of the entrance. A man turned, leaving. Just like she had predicted. She wrapped her arm around his neck and pulled him back, dragging him behind the initial building. Heh, they even have card keys. “Surprisingly cultured pirates,” she muttered as she yanked it off. Her helmet luckily kept her alert to any surprises, and so she moved into the base through the front door, taking out one more guard.

Now… Now is where it would get harder, as she hid the bodies and dipped behind a bunch of metal crates.

Objective 1 - Protect Our Citizens
CEMC 9th Battalion
Infil outside village in forest
"Thirty to LZ," the pilot called out to the marines in his troop bay. So far the ride down from the Vesci had been smooth without incident. Perhaps the Chiss flying did really want to make a good impression upon the LT for future endeavors. That thought brought a smirk to her face. Flyboys were all alike.

"Roger that. Nice and easy, hmm?" she keyed back over her helmet's comm, then gave a hand signal for the others to get ready for infi.

"You got it."

"Tomcat" brought the Chiss Dropship Transport in over the tree line with the gunners at the ready, then set it down on its repulsarlifts in a grassy clearing still hot. When the red light turned green and the blast doors slid back on the CDT, Flaz'suz'safis was first out as usual with her squad following right behind their leader.

Theta squad spread out quickly into the forested area as the dropship lifted back off with Theta Six taking point. They were to head directly for Qsor Village and link up with the other squads from 9th Battalion. The CEMC were going to hit the pirate raiders who had been pillaging the local farming town, then secure the area.

Hopefully these pirates would go down as easily as the ones on Ilum, but for some reason Flaz'suz'safis had a bad feeling about this.

Ool, Chiss Space, Unknown Regions
Objective 3 - Safari
[member="Malicar"]

Ool; Too hot, too Green, too.. teeming with life.

The necessity of the agriworlder’s efforts to the Ascendancy was not lost on Bella, billions of mouths needed to be fed across Chiss space and some noble souls shouldered that burden so that people like Vhirr’bel’laminis never need set foot in a farmers field or trek through a maze of endless forest. She knew in her heart that it wasn’t the fault of the Oolian Chiss - this pirate invasion - but she resented it all the same.

She had been there, to help to rout the pirates at Illum. Perhaps, Bella mused, if they had been more thorough in eradicating that threat this side trip to Ool might never have needed to happen. But it had happened - and the powers that be had ordered the assets of the 3rd fleet to assist in a non-combat capacity.

As Commodore Vhirr’bel’laminis was still waiting for the final tests of her new fleet command vessel to be completed she found herself temporarily without an official posting amongst the vessels of the 3rd fleet; Who better, Command had surmised, to coordinate planetary efforts than rising star Bella.

The admiral sat back on the bench of a CEDF Marine lander, her legs up on on the next bench as she watched the verdant canopy of countless tree’s flashing past her viewport with monotonous repetition. The world was undeniably beautiful, she allowed as a vast lake broke the illusion of endless forest for far too brief an interval, but who would choose to waste a life lived here on the outskirts of society and culture?

She looked to her datapad again for the fiftieth time in an hour, checking for the next update, the next emergency call from colonists terrorised by exotic monsters the bored pirates had chosen to seed around the forest world for their entertainment. Already that day she had supervised the collection of half a dozen Nexus, a pair of Bohreks driven wild by shock collars and sub-dermal pain stimulators - even a Gundark that had taken to living in one of the many vast grain silos of Ool’s megafarms.

It wasn’t work traditionally suited to the CEDF, but the Marines often boasted that they were prepared for anything. It had been tiring work too. Far easier and more efficient would have been to simply shoot the creatures and be done with it, a course of action suggested by Vhirr’bel’laminis and though not rejected outright by the Admiralty, had been ordered as a last resort.

So here she was, in the late afternoon on a forest hunting trip with 20 tired marines and a growing sense of boredom, when the comms system came to life with a call for aid.

“This is team Theta-four reque - … …-ort at grid 11, urgent request, please respond.”

“Team Theta-four this is Theta-one, report,” Bella answered, sitting up and paying attention once again as the static buzzed in response momentarily.

“Theta-one, - questing backup. Thi - … - ngs huge -” the reply was choppy and the signal took another moment for the comm officer to clear up. “ .. - a bull Rancor, we are keeping it back but require immediate backup.”

“Understood Theta-four, we are on our way..” she nodded to the pilot to confirm her wordless order before speaking to the comms officer again. “Open signal to the recovery teams, This is Theta-One under the command of the CEDF, requesting support from proximate assets to Grid 11. Reported contact with a Rancor. Theta-One is en route.

How big was a Rancor, really? She asked herself, as the lander vectored off toward the new destination.

Above planet Ool; Ool System.
Objective X: Provide system-wide security against pirate forces.
Mitth'orn'eruod maintained careful observation of the sensors at his command panels, watching the pirate fleet that closed the distance. From the more thorough scans that had taken place, there was now more information on the sizable force, including starship types and possible armaments. A single destroyer operated as the flagship, painted with a bright orange in a pattern that resembled a coiled reptile. There were several frigates, a number of corvettes and some support craft. The enemy would present a trying battle, even if they were ultimately under-powered in comparison to the waiting Chiss fleet, but given the severity of the situation for the pirates, there was potential for drastic action.

"Begin moving Talon Two toward the following co-ordinates, I want to draw them in," Mitth'orn'eruod said, as he moved a gloved hand across a representation of the system on the panel before him, indicating locations for the warships under his command. "Their commander is moving full ahead, wedge formation, and is likely to meet might against might... so we must adapt, alter our plan, and prepare to allow them the chance to box themselves in."

Still beyond visual perception, the small dots of the pirate vessels continued to move forward, even as the Chiss starships began to shift and adjust locations, preparing for the engagement to come...
