OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
- Intent: To introduce a comedic yet capable sapient species inspired by a hyper-animated annelid-in-a-suit archetype, designed to fill roles as eccentric mercenaries, unlikely heroes, inventors, and chaotic wildcards in Star Wars RP.

GENERAL INFORMATION
- Name: Vermisapiens
- Designation: Sentient
- Origins: Varmis Minor – a temperate, high-gravity Mid Rim world known for unstable tectonics and dense megaflora.
- Average Lifespan: 70–95 standard years
- Estimated Population: Planetary – Approx. 480 million
- Description: Vermisapiens are elongated annelid-like beings who evolved in subterranean ecosystems before developing powered exoskeletal suits to operate comfortably in open air and high-gravity environments. Though physically unassuming outside their armor, they are energetic, loud, daring, and often possess exaggerated confidence. Their culture prizes bravado, improvisation, and theatrical heroics, leading many off-worlders to underestimate them, often at their peril.
PHYSICAL INFORMATION
- Breathes: Type I atmosphere (oxygen-nitrogen mix)
- Average Height of Adults: 0.4 meters (unarmored, upright extension)
- Average Length of Adults: 1.2–1.6 meters
- Skin color: Pink, mauve, reddish-brown, or pale beige
- Hair color: N/A
- Distinctions:
Vermisapiens possess segmented, muscular bodies covered in flexible dermal ridges that aid in burrowing. They have no arms or legs. Approximately one third of the way along the length of its elongated body is its face. They have two visible eyes in the Human sense but also have clusters of tiny dim-light-sensitive ocelli and vibration-sensing cilia around their anterior segment. Their mouths are circular and filled with fine sharp denticles suited for both soil filtration and tool manipulation.
While physically capable on their own, most adults wear customized bipedal exosuits, humanoid frames that enhance mobility, allow manipulation of standard galactic technology, and amplify their already dramatic personalities. These suits often feature exaggerated shoulder plates, oversized boots, and expressive helmet visors.
There is minimal sexual dimorphism; females tend to be slightly longer and thicker in mid-body segments. Aging Vermisapiens develop duller coloration and reduced regenerative capacity. - Races:
— Deepburrow Clans (paler, adapted to low light)
— Redcrest Clans (darker pigmentation, stronger surface tolerance) - Force Sensitivity: Standard
Strengths:
- Exceptional resilience and regenerative ability; capable of recovering from injuries that would cripple many humanoids.
- Highly adaptable problem-solvers with strong mechanical intuition and creative improvisation skills.
- Both ends of the body are considered prehensile and capable of fine manipulation with physical strength comparable to a strong human.
Weaknesses:
- Physically vulnerable outside of protective exosuits in open environments.
- Culturally prone to recklessness, overconfidence, and unnecessary theatrics.
CULTURE
- Diet: Omnivore. Originally detritivorous soil-processors, modern Vermisapiens consume nutrient pastes, fungi, root vegetables, and protein-rich invertebrates. Highly acidic or desiccating foods are harmful.
- Communication: Speak Vermic (a rapid, expressive language filled with dramatic tonal shifts) and Galactic Basic. Their speech is often loud, fast, and punctuated by exaggerated metaphors. Body undulations convey emotional subtext.
- Technology level: Comparable to standard galactic technology, though heavily specialized in exosuit engineering, mining equipment, and exaggerated high-caliber projectile weaponry.
- Religion/Beliefs: Many follow “The Grand Spiral,” a philosophical belief that life is cyclical and dramatic struggle is necessary for growth. Heroism, particularly improbable survival against absurd odds, is considered spiritually affirming.
- General behavior:
Vermisapiens are theatrical, thrill-seeking, and fond of bold declarations. Clan-based family units raise young communally in subterranean hatcheries. Youth are encouraged to tinker, invent, and engage in competitive storytelling that often exaggerates real events.
They are natural engineers and explorers, fascinated by surface life and off-world cultures. Many leave Varmis Minor to become bounty hunters, mercenaries, mechanics, or independent adventurers.
Despite their humor and bravado, they are fiercely loyal to clan and companions. Betrayal is met with dramatic (and often very public) retribution.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Vermisapiens evolved in the tectonically unstable sub-crustal layers of Varmis Minor, surviving frequent quakes and lava flows through rapid burrowing and regenerative biology. Their early civilization developed around geothermal vents, where they first experimented with reinforced mining shells that would later evolve into powered exosuits.
Contact with the wider galaxy occurred when prospectors discovered Varmis Minor’s rich mineral deposits. Initial misunderstandings fueled by off-worlders mistaking unarmored Vermisapiens for non-sentient fauna led to brief but explosive conflicts. Once the species demonstrated intelligence (and surprising firepower), formal relations were established.
Since then, Vermisapiens have gained a reputation across the Mid Rim as unpredictable but effective allies. Their larger-than-life personalities and dramatic combat style often turn minor engagements into legendary tales retold with increasing exaggeration each cycle.
Today, while most remain on Varmis Minor, a growing number travel the galaxy seeking glory, invention, profit, or simply the next spectacular adventure worthy of the Grand Spiral.
