Draconis would almost roll his eyes at the mention of several viceroys trying to cut to the meat of the perceived problem. All he ever heard people talk about was Confederacy First this, Confederacy First that. That it was a blight upon their society, a black mark on their record. That it was something quite unnecessary and had only done harm to the Confederacy overall in its implementation.
What a load of crap it all was.
Draconis himself was an example of how the executive actions had helped the CIS. An example as to why it was a needed action to motivate people to get out of their oh so comfortable, backwards, and corrupt ways and force them to actually start doing their jobs as viceroys. An example of how the people of the Confederacy should be their first and foremost concern, as the rest of the galaxy had proven their allegiances quite openly and clearly. And why should the CIS drop everything it is doing to bend over backwards to help peoples who not only do not wish to adopt the Confederacy's mindset, but come from places with extremely toxic propaganda about the CIS? Who only wish to run away from their problems and bring them here, rather than start anew and actually give the CIS and her various planetary states the chance they deserved to prove they were not as evil as they were depicted. No, Draconis would argue until he was cold and dead in the ground against the very thought. These people weren't on the borders, they didn't have to deal with the rabble, pirates, and external threats these other nations posed to them. They stood to lose nothing should their blind optimism proved false, meanwhile entire systems like Surric would burn because of their short sighted naivety.
And something rather unexpected happened.
Someone burst the the main double doors of the entrance rather openly and brazenly. Draconis didn't bother looking up, being that this arrangement was alphabetical, he was the furthest to one side on the top row of pods. He wouldn't be able to see clearly without breaking his set, and he sincerely doubted whoever just entered was important enough to warrant that kind of attention. At least until he heard the man speak. The new Lord Commander, Gerwald Lechner. Draconis had a bit of background information on him, and while he assumed that this man would at least have a bit more tact in his approach to addressing the Viceroyalty he did appreciate the direct nature of his actions. And then a single word stuck out to the man, causing his two aides to flinch as they noticed Draconis stop mid curl.
Treason
The rest of the chamber would go abuzz as people began talking amongst each other, some arguing but others mainly trying to ascertain as to just what this meant. A member of the Viceroyalty a traitor? What were his crimes? What did the Knights Obsidian plan to do? Draconis looked up from his seated position finally as the noise started to get to him. It was so bloody loud. So force forsakenly unnecessary and absolutely annoying with these blasted
children gossiping like little girls who have just learned of someone's dirty secret. Rommer spoke once more, that cocksure voice of his ringing out causing a brief silence and then even more of a loud uproar as people began arguing even louder now. He demanded to be tried in front of his peers. That it be done so publicly. Draconis would finally stand with the large dumbbell in hand as his aides took a step back.
This childish act by the chambers ended now.
With a grunt he would slam down the dumbbell into his pod's railing, causing a massive clang of durasteel on metal followed by a booming roar.
"ENOUGH!"
The chamber would become dead quiet as Draconis looked out among his peers, the viceroyalty up in arms over something so unnecessarily blown out of proportion. His next words didn't bother to hide the absolute anger of Draconis from everyone in the room, and would be loud enough that everyone could hear him despite not using his voice projection system in his pod.
"What is the matter with all of you!? A single accusation thrown into this chamber, that someone in our ranks has been accused of being a traitor and you act like schoolgirls who have learned of a fellow student's crush on a star athlete! GET A HOLD OF YOURSELVES! You are viceroys of your planets in The Confederacy of Independent Systems! You are leaders of your people and should have the discipline to save such gossip for your personal time, and your arguments for your designated time to speak! A problem has been presented, now let us deal with it as adults and not as some mongrel pup yipping at absolutely everything!"
He would look back around as he made sure each and every one of them understood how disappointed he was. He would even make sure to nod to the speaker to apologize for speaking out of turn, even if it was to regain order of the chambers. As he finished he would gesture to the speaker, silently asking for permission to continue, a simple nod returning to him letting him know he could speak. He would continue this time, now putting his dress shirt back on as he addressed both
Bastille Rommer
and
Gerwald Lechner
.
"Lord Commander, you bring grave accusations of graver crimes to our doorstep. I am certain you would not do so without the utmost proof and evidence to support your case. That being said, Viceroy Rommer is correct. You would get absolutely worse than nowhere if you tried to take him to a prison to await trial. This is because I'm sure you've noticed his 'guards' are a bit on edge with your accusation but they are the least of your worries. They would attempt to stop you but assuredly would fail, as I'm assuming you also didn't get the position of Lord Commander as a political appointment. Instead you face the fact that not only would no prison be able to hold such a subject against their will, but none would volunteer as they would be subject to his people's rage and undue violence. You would cause riots, and many lives would at least be put to risk if not lost. He must be tried, openly and now. However," Draconis would hold up a finger to display there was a counter point.
"Viceroy Rommer cannot be allowed to represent himself, as such representation would be considered tainted. Being that his livelihood and life is on the line one could argue that a man such as him would say whatever he needed to survive the matter. Therefore he must be represented by one of us. He must be allowed to defend himself properly of these charges, and as much as I hate to say the words," Draconis would pause before speaking
"I shall do it. As a former commander in our armed forces and as the commander in chief of the Surric Local Defense Forces, I have seen more than my fair share of court martials, non-judicial punishments and have acted as judge, jury and executor in such matters. I have proven my loyalty to the Confederacy in her entirety, both on the field of battle and in office of Viceroy of my system. I have stood steadfast in my duties and shall continue to do so. You have my word that I shall be a fair and just representative of not only the Confederacy in this matter, but of Justice. I wish for myself and our colleagues to see this evidence you have. I wish to know what you know, so that we can deliberate if this is actually treason or if this is something lesser and while still possibly punishable, not as severe. I take a threat to every citizen inside our glorious Confederacy's borders as a serious matter Lord Commander. It matters not whether they are of Geonosis, Ra'Katha, or Surric. Whether they be common citizens or Viceroys of planets, they deserve to have their voices heard. So," Draconis now looked the Lord Commander directly in his eyes.
"What say you, Lord Commander of the Knights Obsidian?"
