OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: Flesh out VCH's starfighter development program and create a possible setting for future company-related roleplay.

SETTING INFORMATION
  • Structure Name: VCH Test Site "Onyx Empyrean"
  • Classification: Test Site
  • Location: Murninkam
  • Affiliation: Vandiir Consolidated Holdings
  • Accessibility: Due to the nature of the work carried out in the facility, or rather the corporate secrets that flow through it, access is heavily restricted, with any trespassers assumed to be corporate spies and treated accordingly unless proven otherwise. As per standard VCH policy, this typically involves being thrown in the brig pending interrogation and/or transfer to a VCH black site. There are no balconies and no easily breakable windows; anyone seeking to enter will have to do so through the landing pad entrance, the hangars, or by breaking through the walls. The latter course of action would, of course, trigger an immediate facility-wide lockdown unless the security system is fooled or disabled.
  • Description: Rising forth from the rolling seas as if in defiance to gravity itself, the dark grey spire that is "Onyx Empyrean" is built in a sleeker version of traditional Imperial Brutalism. While seemingly precariously positioned, the structure is, in fact, incredibly stable. Built from turadium-reinforced duracrete, the towering structure is able to resist virtually anything Mother Nature can throw at it, though sufficiently powerful manmade armaments is a different case altogether. While the exterior features only a small number of viewports, all made from thick glasteel, the interior is spacious and surprisingly comfortable, a reflection of VCH's belief that a happy workforce is a productive workforce.
POINTS OF INTEREST
  • Control Tower: Rising up from the landing pad is the sleek control tower, partially inspired by Serennian architecture. Dominating the topmost floor is a bridge-like room with thick glasteel panes on all tides, giving it a panoramic view of the nearby terrain. It is from here that flights are controlled, the nearby area monitored remotely through Augur Drones, and communications routed. At the top of the tower is a quad laser cannon and an extensive communications array, though the former is concealed within the structure itself when not in use.
  • Landing Pad: At the apex of the tower stands an expansive landing pad, which is primarily used by freighters bringing supplies and prototypes to and from the facility. That being said, the pad is also used as a starting point for many a test flight, though any actual defensive forces would be launched from hangars in the sides of the structure.
  • Personnel Quarters: Spaciously decorated and featuring a decent level of privacy, the personnel quarters are well-protected in the event of an attack and features all the amenities one would expect; from the basics such as refreshers to an exercise room and a holocinema. This section is also home to a well-stocked armoury, though access requires both biometric authentication and a code cylinder with sufficient access privileges.
  • Hangars: Built into the sides of the upper part of the tower and protected by thick turadium blast doors, the hangars hold two full squadrons of combat-ready starfighters, a few shuttles, and a varying number of prototypes.
  • Workshop: Taking up much of the middle and upper middle tower is the workshop, where any necessary adjustments to prototypes are made. This facility is also capable of producing some limited components, though more complicated items are shipped in from off-site. This is also where prototypes are stored when testing is not imminent.
  • Data Vault: Amongst the most heavily guarded parts of the facility is the data vault, a massive databank near the centre of the tower containing numerous corporate secrets and prototypes designs. Due to its valuable contents, it is protected by thick walls, numerous failsafes, and a contingency protocol that will purge the databanks if a security breach is detected. Should a standard system purge be impossible, the databanks contain thin strips of baradium, allowing more drastic measures to be taken in a worst-case scenario. It should be noted that while the walls are thick enough to contain the blast, anyone inside the vault at the time would likely not be as lucky.
  • Facilities: Built into the lower-middle and bottom of the structure is the facilities section, an uninviting and unlit maze of corridors where few organics ever set their feet. Completely deprived of viewports and packing formidable security measures, this section holds everything from climate control to the power generator, as well as the Master Control Unit for the facility's automated defence system.
SECURITY

[*]External Security:
  • [7] Concealed Quad Laser Cannons
  • [4] Concussion Missile Launch Tubes

[*]Starfighter Complement:
  • [2] Starfighter Squadrons
  • Up to 3 Combat-Ready Prototypes

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
There was little of interest on Murninkam. It was far from any major Hyperlanes and the planet itself was lacking in natural resources. It was, however, perfectly suited for VCH's needs.

Murninkam itself might be nothing special, but the system held abundant resources for those with the funding to extract it. Its location might be remote, but that was nothing that could not be amended through sufficient investments. Not to mention that its distant position, shielded from the rest of the galaxy by the bulk of the Sith Empire, provided a sense of security and stability that was well suited for establishing a lasting foundation. Most importantly, the planet was uninhabited save for a small colony of pirates. When all was said and done, all that remained of the pirate settlement was a small swathe of pockmarked wasteland and an overly cheerful incident report sent to Sith-Imperial authorities. Murninkam was once more an uninhabited world ready to be claimed by anyone equipped to hold it.

It on this virgin world that Onyx Empyrean was constructed, the first step of a much larger project. The imposing duracrete edifice quickly became a key part of VCH's starfighter development program, with frequent test flights taking place in atmosphere, in space, and in the nearby pair of asteroid fields. While fairly lightly staffed, with only a hundred or so organic employees present at any given time, the facility boasts a cadre of highly skilled pilots and engineers, as well as a high level of automation.

In typical VCH fashion the Omwati head of engineering, Doctor Phima Zax, is also formally its administrator, though more down-to-earth affairs are typically handled by the site's head of security, currently Nicram Falbow, a Jaemus-born ex-Legionnaire.

What sort of prototypes are we talking here exactly?
Any combat-ready prototype starfighters that happen to be stored in the hangars; there would likely be as many unarmed prototypes and even more stored in the Workshop due to not being ready/scheduled for imminent testing. It's hard to say how many and how effective of a fighting force they would be, but unless the site happens to be testing a squadron of stealth interceptors in a live-fire operation the very day it's attacked, these prototypes would be unlikely to act as anything more than a supplement to the two squadrons assigned to defend the site. (Of course, no prototypes would be used to defend the site unless the situation is desperate, but that goes without saying.)

If you put a hard limited number on that, I will be more comfortable with it. Something like '2-3 combat ready prototypes'.

"~2-3 Combat-Ready Prototypes"

Will this be sufficient, or would you prefer, e.g., "Up to 3 Combat-Ready Prototypes"?
