Description: With the Golden Company's meteoric rise to galactic infamy, through the starport massacre at Thyferra and their continued, contractual, service to the First Order, the Supreme Sun Guardian had seen fit to commision a new starship for his subordinates who have earned their place within his organization. To this end, he contacted a smaller, but well-equipped company within the Core Worlds that would see his envisioned project come to life. The initial order would see the shipyards above Coruscant construct a handful of the “Crusader”-Pattern Corvettes, but as by the terms of their agreement, subsequent variants would be produced by other contracted hands. At least until the mercenary outfit had been able to acquire shipyards, and the crews required to maintain them.

The VCC-01 “Crusader”-Pattern Heavy Corvette was primarily designed to be a mobile base of operations amongst the stars, in which the various elements of the Golden Company could be housed and easily deployed from. To this end, much of what would’ve been given over to passengers in any standard, and conventional corvette, were designed instead as an automated armoury and a comprehensive barracks. This allowed for the various ‘Legions’ of the Sun Guard that laid claim to the vessel, to easily clean and maintain their arms and offering automated services in which to remove, or clad themselves in their powered battle armour. To ensure that they remain in control of their vessel, several extending spinal bulkheads were installed at key choke points throughout the Corvette, as well as retractable auto blasters that would aid their masters in repelling boarders.

In addition to the internal defences and comprehensive barracks, the “Crusader” was equipped with a central computer core, that housed a highly sophisticated droid brain that was built with Heuristic processors implanted inside its positronic matrix. This design choice had allowed the Corvette to drastically reduce it’s crew complement, permitting an effective operation in various combat scenarios with fewer sentient hands on deck. As well, the integrated droid brain was able to operate the vessel for a short period of time should the organic crew find themselves incapacitated, or otherwise indisposed. However, as almost every subsystem aboard the “Crusader” was slaved to the central computer core, the vessel itself, would develop a personality of its own over time. Essentially becoming an enslaved artificial intelligence that was bound to serve by the laws of its programming - but never being able to achieve the true self-awareness found in others of its kind.

Naturally, this would later prove to become an inherent weakness in the design, as should a hostile boarding party manage to take control of the Computer Core, they would fundamentally control every aspect of the Corvette.

Furthermore, adding to the vessel’s extremely uncanny ability to adapt to whatever situation it may find itself in, the modular cargo hold had found itself serving as an extension to the hangar bay - in which an entire squadron of starfighters could make their home. Or, more likely as the Sun Guard’s themselves would use it, a base for their Phaethon-class Transports to take roost both on the flight deck and locked in deployment racks above it. With the inclusion of a modular cargo hold, sharing the same space as the hangar bay, much of the total carrying capacity was slashed - to ensure that the vessel was able to safely ferry it’s consignment to their intended destination. However, from this combination came an interesting development. With the inclusion of rapidly deploying cargo ramps underneath the magnetic hangar shielding, the Corvette would be able to carry mechanized and armoured unit’s into the fray - allowing the Sun Guard’s to become more than a simple band of gunship bound mercenaries.

As the “Crusader’s” inner workings have been detailed, now begins the external systems. With an emphasis on speed, over agility, one of the Corvette’s most defining visual features were the three propulsion units affixed to the aft of the vessel. With the larger ionic drive exhausts, the vessel was able to generate more velocity in the cold, blackhearted vacuum of space. However, with such a boon to their propulsion, came the weakness of being prime targets for enemy vessels and starfighters. For every reward, came with a risk. A lesson every Sun Guard would come to learn in the days to come. However, another lesson that both the technicians on Coruscant and the Sun Guard’s themselves were taught, was that there should always be a contingency plan should something go awry. Thus, if the engines were ever destroyed by hostile craft, or through sabotage, the “Crusader” would never be left adrift. Instead, the vessel would deploy it’s retracted solar sails and collection arrays, and sail through the stars like the naval ships of myth.

While this was admittedly a cheap addition to the Corvette, it came with its own list of weaknesses, such as the starship would be unable to take advantage of this method of propulsion, should the system it’s located in not have a star. No solar wind, or expelled photons, and the “Crusader” was dead in the water. Altering their course would require that the solar sails themselves were shifted in their entirety, making the process of avoiding stellar navigational hazards all the more dangerous, and agonizingly slow - in comparison to ionic thrusts. When the sail was deployed, the Corvette would be unable to accelerate to hyperspace, as the large starship would be unable to gather the required velocity and momentum to make the jump - making it all the easier to trap the “Crusader” should their sails be deployed. And finally, the dispersed solar sails were fragile, as the metals used in their construction were delicate and impregnated with complicated lattices of solar ionization circuitry. This meant that the sails themselves would be vulnerable to micrometeorites, and various stellar debris, which would easily tear through the sail - rendering them useless.

With the inclusion of the “Crusader” into their growing armada, the Golden Company would become an outfit to be reviled and feared across the galaxy. None would be spared from the fury of the Sun

It goes without saying that artificial intelligences are a restricted material. Does this have any unusual abilities typically associated with AIs here at Chaos? Or is this more of a fancy word for basic shipboard automation?

Much like the smaller Phaethon’s that would one day adorn its internal hangar bay, the “Crusader”-Pattern Corvette was equipped with an individual field disruptor, which would alter the harmonic frequency of their projected deflector shield. This would allow the Corvette to bypass through conventional deflector shielding that encapsulates planetary systems, as it would fool the barrier into believing the Corvette was apart of their discharged screen.
This is a powerful ability. Most submissions that have allowed ships to bypass planetary shielding have had a weakness that goes with this ability. This is oftentimes the ship's own shielding going down during this process. I would like to see a similar weakness added here for this ability.

Overall, this ship is also one rating too high.

[member="Gir Quee"] - The implementation of a droid brain with a heuristic processor acts in a similar manner to any droid that goes too long without a memory wipe. Much like R2-D2 in both Legends and Canon, the droid began to develop a personality of its own after years of experience and a lack of routine memory wipes. Without going into the details, as I'm certain you're very well aware of, it is essentially fancy wording for shipboard automation.

I will agree that the individual field disruptor is a powerful ability, however, I'm curious as to your source in regards to the shield going down during this process. I've seen nothing in the Wookieepedia article that suggests such an event occurs, meaning that both of us are going off assumptions of how this vague technology works. I will provide an additional weakness, nevertheless.

However, I disagree that the ship's ratings are one too high, as per the template guideline for every increase in rating decrease the production value, another statistic, or provide another genuine weakness. The latter of which, I've provided three - now four weaknesses to the Corvette that I believe more than justifies a single increase.

It's not canon, as individual field disruptors have not canonically be affixed to starships, or have they every been used against deflector shields (ray shields and energy fences only, as far as I know). Several ships in Chaos previously have been fitted with IFDs for shield penetration ability, and as part of that, have lost their shielding while using it. The in-character rationalization is that these devices canonically have required large amounts of power to pass through shielding in proportion to the strength of the energy fence. While lossing shields temporarily has been the traditional weakness given to its use, I am open to alternative suggestions for that tradeoff.

The weaknesses bit is at my discretion. It has to be a really significant weakness (like not having ray shielding), or a culmination of smaller, practical weaknesses to make up for a rating increase. So let's look at them:

Khonsu Amon said:
Limited Ventral Firing Arc’s. Limited Aft / Stern Firing Arc’s.
Almost every ship has some sort of blindspot or area where they can project less firepower than the rest of the ship. This could be a potential weakness if we knew what weapons couldn't fire in these areas, or rather, what weapons could fire in these arcs.

Khonsu Amon said:
Limited Maneuverability (Slow and Wide Turns.)
Reflected in the maneuverability rating (obviously doesn't count towards the rating offset then).

Khonsu Amon said:
Limited Bridge Viewport Awareness (Narrowed Viewport, Heavy Reliance on Sensors.)
This is fluff that will have almost no impact on the actual RP ability of the ship itself. If it did, it would be all too easy to RP having the ship facing just the right spot so that it wasn't an issue. This is a fine counterpart to a fluff strength though, like the droid brain.

Khonsu Amon said:
Hyperwave Inertial Momentum Sustainer. (Negates Interdiction Fields, Useless after Reversion.)
This is an advanced system. This should not be on the weakness section at all. Please remove this from the weaknesses section.

Khonsu Amon said:
Stunted Anti-Capital Combat Effectiveness. (Weaker versus Frigates and Above.)

This is true for the vast majority of corvettes. By definition, they will almost always be weaker in terms of raw combat capability than a larger ship. This is not a weakness.

Khonsu Amon said:
Lethargic Secondary Hyperdrive Motivator. (Class 10.)
Not really a practical weakness in terms of RP. Even if we used secondary hyperdrives frequently (and I can't say that I've actually seen one used here yet in a competitive thread), there's not really much regulation on how this would effect a person's ability to arrive at a destination. This is fine as a fluff weakness, but again, this has little to no practical RP effect.

Khonsu Amon said:
Agrinium Solar Sails and Solar Ionization Collection Array(s). [Retractable.]
The solar sails are a secondary propulsion system, which as you've noted above is actually an advanced system and a strength. Please remove this from the weaknesses section.

Khonsu Amon said:
Shield Modulation and Recycle, required after the Individual Field Disruptor's been Activated.
Tell me a bit more about this. This could potentially answer the whole IFD issue that we talked about earlier. Depending on what this explanation is, I could see this potentially answering my previous concerns about the inclusion of the technology. Until I know more about this, I can't really count it as a weakness.

Khonsu Amon said:
Enslaved Systems (Control the Computer Core, Control the Ship.)
This is a minor weakness for a very specific situation. On top of that, it's highly unlikely practical weakness given the nature of the Sun Guards and the other Golden Company soldiers, given their elite status and the inclusion of multiple anti-boarding technologies. I'd actually probably consider this to be the proper balance for those strengths, rather than its own specific weakness.

So we currently have that last weakness as the only thing currently going towards offsetting that rating increase, and I'm not even sure if that should count for much if anything given its elite and relatively soldier complements and anti-boarding technology.

[member="Gir Quee"] - I have removed the requested common sense weakness, and have enhanced the wording on several of the weaknesses already in play.

The primary one of note, is the one regarding the IFD, which when activated, would force the shield’s to modulate to the same harmonic frequency of the barrier they’re intending to breach - and collapse after bypassing the shield - forcing the shields to reset, or recycle.

The others have included the turret/cannon limitations if engaged ventrally, or from behind. I’ve based this off the image(s) provided, so I hope it’s sufficient. If not, I can work the numbers a bit more to establish firing arc’s for everything.

The edits are much appreciated. I just need one final clarification before I can stamp this.

How long does this recycling take?

[member="Gir Quee"] - I think it would be fair to say that a corvette of this size would fully regain it’s shield capacity after a period of time ranging from one to five minutes, depending on how thick of a shield it breaches. If that’s sufficient, I’ve further expanded the weakness to include this clarification.

Individual Field Disruptor. (Overhauled to Modern Standards.)
I cannot approve a non-unique starship, specifically a capital ship, that is equipped with an Individual Field Disruptor, especially at the current ratings. Before looking at strengths and weaknesses you are one rating above what would be permitted at this production level, you also have a HIMS, an Individual Field Disruptor.

Looking at strengths, you also have enhanced protection from ion weapons.

To list this out, along with the strengths:
 • One rating over maximum for this production level
 • Individual Field Disruptor on a capital ship, and on one that is not unique.
 • Hyperspace Inertial Momentum Sustainer (HIMS)
 • Enhanced ion protection built into the ship.
 • Shortwave Missile deactivation transmitter
 • Anti-ordnance EM probes
 • An integrated droid brain (which is a negligible strength)
 • Retractable agrinium solar sails (which I wouldn't really consider necessary to list as a strength)
vs:
 • Limited firing arcs/fixed firing arcs (all of these can be consolidated into one weakness)
 • Limited Maneuverability (this is already reflected in the ratings, so I'm not counting this as a weakness that offsets ratings and advanced systems)
 • Limited viewport awareness (this is countered by the fact that this ship has sensors, and viewport visibility is not anywhere near as important as it is in the real world on a boat in the ocean, or while flying something like a starfighter or fighter jet)
 • A class 10 backup hyperdrive (which is more of a strength, as having a secondary, backup, hyperdrive is a benefit. It is extremely rare for a backup hyperdrive to be lower than Class 10).
 • Shield recycling/shutdown after the shield disruptor has already been used.
 • Mention that taking control of the ship's computer core means taking control of the ship.
I've highlighted the strength and weaknesses that aren't significant enough to balance out extra ratings or additional advanced systems to give a better visual of how I'm seeing this.

Those that are highlighted in red are things that will rarely come up in RP, are already established by ratings, or are not substantial weaknesses (which would, in this case, be the backup hyperdrive). That puts us at 1 rating over and 5 additional strengths/advanced systems, with 3 weaknesses to directly counter that.

That's without taking into consideration the ramifications of putting an individual field disruptor onto a capital ship, much less putting it on a submission that already has higher ratings than it should at its given production. You can lower this submission to Unique in order to keep the field disruptor or this submission will not be approved. Alternatively you can rework this into a Starfighter (as in 50 meters and under) submission, for which an individual field disruptor at this production level. Keep in mind that lowering the production to unique will still allow you to raise the ratings on the ship to accommodate the lowered production, even to one over.

As a reminder, your ability to request a second chance is always available.

[member="Nadja Keto"] - Why in my right mind would I rework an entire Corvette into a Starfighter? I’m sorry to say that defeats the whole purpose of why I even bothered making a capital ship submission in the first place. Lol - Anyways, as it seems the IFD is causing quite the ruckus, I’ll be removing it from the template and replacing it with something else, along with adding some more weaknesses to balance things out, hopefully.

To surmise the changes I’ve made, I’ve removed the HIMS and IFD strengths from the submission, and have combed through the wording to make sure there’s no mention of the system being used. I’ve swapped out the mass-driver turret for a twin torpedo tube launcher and have listed the variable payload above the listing for the concussion missile pods. I also added two more weaknesses regarding poor optimization towards longe range and long (time-wise) engagements, and have combined the firing arc's into a single weakness with minor clarifications tacked on the end.

Is this a sufficient enough of an alternative to meet your requirements?
