Even the mighty Xarûl and Gorvahn starfighter lines once deployed in recent times could only scout a fraction of the unknown.

The Shadow Hand Darth Prazutis deemed this unacceptable. Power meant nothing without omniscience. Thus the Varnyss project was born. Forged in the laboratories of the Shadow Mind the Varnyx-class was conceived not as a starfighter, not as a shuttle, not as a soldier, but as a listener. A wide, wing-shaped silhouette of black alchemical plating, etched with faint crimson veins, allows the prowler to glide through void currents with minimal signature bleed. Together they form a complete Kainate reconnaissance doctrine, the first true one developed since the rebirth of the Sith Holy Worlds.


Nor was the Varnyx built to be helpless. Twin Abyssal Lash Cannons provide modest self-defense and precision strikes, while the trap-seed systems allow it to shape a killsphere even while fleeing. It is not a dogfighter, but a scalpel: one that chooses its engagements, shapes its environment, and never appears unless it intends to.

The necessity for such a craft became undeniable after several enemy factions learned to avoid direct confrontation with the Kainate's great warships. They hid in nebulae, used civilian traffic as shield, or scattered into a hundred vectors to render pursuit unfeasible. The Kainate responded with the Varnyx, an eye that sweeps through darkness and finds them anyway, a listener that hears whispers they thought concealed.

Now, every major Kainate fleet carries at least one Varnyx-class prowler as a permanent recon asset, and Shadow Mind relies on their data to sculpt entire campaigns.
