AFFILIATIONSSTRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES
  • + With Age Comes...: With age comes more than the accumulation of knowledge, power, or wealth. Over the course of his lifetime, Varesk has become quite the wise, aging Bothan. His council far extends basic common sense and can be quite valuable to those willing to hear.
    .
  • + This Snout Isn't Just For Show!: In comparison to the average Human or Near-Human, Varesk enjoys a heightened sense of smell. With this trait, Varesk can identify an individual based solely on their odor; and can even spot chemical gases.
    .
  • - Mood-Sensitive Fur: As with all Bothans, Verask's mood can be easily identified due to ripples that occur through his fur. In situations where lying spells the difference between life and death, Verask's fur can be a tell that could result in his demise. For this reason, Verask does his absolute best to keep control over his mood.
    .
  • - Old Bones: Having lived half a century, Verask is not as physically strong or swift as he used to. Although it is possible to circumvent some of the affects of old age through the Force, Verask has not yet learned these techniques at this point.

BIOGRAPHY

As the Galaxy continued to recover from the Darkness which had kept the worlds segregated, Verask Fey'lya was born. The year was 786 ABY, and the Bothan homeworld had only just begun its efforts to reunite its colonies under a single banner once more. Born on Kothlis, the Bothan Colony originally settled by his own Clan Alya, Verask was reared in an era of political maneuvering...and backstabbing. Over the course of the Darkness, each colony world of Bothan space had found itself ruled almost entirely by one clan or another. As such, when the Ilya-dominated Bothawui began its efforts to reunite Bothan Space, the clans dug in their heels; for every clan did not desire to see the power they had amassed over centuries diminished in any way. To be raised in such a turbulent time caused Verask to become well-versed in the ways of the political world. He grew to be silver-tongued, quick-witted, and a spitting image of a Bothan following "The Way". Upon coming of age, Verask entered into the service of the Bothan SpyNet and utilized his role to gather intelligence on the slowly emerging nations of the Galaxy...and the other clans.

Upon the eventual reformation of the Galactic Republic years later, Verask was assigned the duty of scoping out the so-called "cradle of democracy". As such, he ventured to Coruscant in order to get close to the action. Weeks quickly turned into months. Months turned into years; and Verask's simple cover as a member of the Senate Building's janitorial staff eventually ceased bearing any useful information. As such, the Bothan found himself in need of a new cover that would get him new and better access to the details; and so, on a whim, he decided to test a new angle: the angle of a Jedi. The plan, of course, required Force Sensitivity and it was by a divine stroke of luck that Verask's midichlorian count was enough to denote dormant sensitivity upon being tested. With this piece of information in hand, the budding Jedi Order of the present eagerly accepted yet another member into their fold. Of course, during his time apart of the Jedi, Verask never fully embraced the Jedi ways of living. To him, they were but a means to an end...yet seeing the Order and its beliefs as simply a cover would soon come to an abrupt end.

Ever-faithful in his duty to his people, Verask diligently reported on all he saw and all the actions his took to Bothawui; yet the years away from his home and people were beginning to take their tole. Before long, he began to ache for the company of his people and could almost not stand being in the heart of such a Human-centric world like Coruscant. However, he took some solace in the presence of his only friend and mentor within the Order: a Zabrak Knight by the name of She'mael. Through this friendship, Verask was able to stave off some of the pangs of homesickness; yet the Battle of Roche would see this relationship come to a close. As the battle between Jedi and Sith raged on, Padawan and Mentor were separated in the chaos. Verask was able to regroup with a cadre of troopers, determined to rush to his mentor's aide...but it was too late, for the Sith had all but hacked her apart. Utterly torn by the loss of his only friend so far away from home, Verask decided to distance himself from the Jedi Order; for his pain was so evident that it would easily blow his cover. Utilizing Clan affairs as his reason for taking a "temporary leave of absence", Verask made a swift return to Bothawui; just in time to take part in the political movement that would become known as the Confederacy of Independent Systems. In an effort to keep the tsunami of self-blame and grief at bay, Verask buried himself in the support of his people as they spear-headed this momentous movement. His role quickly shifted from that of a veteran field agent to one steeped in politics and planetary representation. In fact, Verask had the rare privilege of becoming one of the nation's first ambassadors and utilized his position to improve inter-planetary relations within the Confederacy as its borders grew.

As the pain of grief wore off, Verask was surprised to see just how much his deceased friend had influenced him and his way of conduct. Which he still adhered to the Bothan Way to the letter, Verask realized that he instinctively treated all matters with temperance, careful thought, and a general respect for all; behaviors reminiscent of the Jedi Code itself. What surprised Verask even more was just how valued his council came to be as time wore on, for his peers would actually halt bickering on the political stage in order to hear what he had to say! It occurred to him that this newfound respect for his thoughts was not simply due to the silver mane which characterized him...but because he was actually spouting words of wisdom. For quite some time, "Verask the Grey" as he came to be known, continued to serve his people and the Confederacy admirably. He diligently worked, day in and day out, to ferry the desires of each world that joined the fold to the Viceroyalty in order to ensure that all would be treated with fairness and equality as apart of this new nation. However, events of recent called for a dramatic change in his peaceful lifestyle. With the reinstatement of Ar'Krai against the extra-Confederate Yuuzhan Vong, Verask decided to hone the gift of the Force that he had allowed to sit dormant within him. After all, he might be old...but with the Force he could fight! As such, he looked first to the local Templars and then reached out to a new circle of Jedi. With an education through the former, Verask was absolutely certain that he could hone his powers into an effective weapon for usage during the genocidal war...and through the latter, he hoped to learn more about the Jedi Path walked by his mentor and dear friend.

As time moved ever forward, to be known as "the Grey" did not seem to fit the Bothan any longer. The more he learned about the Light, the more Verask saw only truth on its Path. So then did he fully embrace the Light Side of the Force and commit fully to its ways. However, just as he began to open himself to the Light, so too did the Southern Systems open themselves to Chaos. War swept across the Confederacy like a mighty tide and great atrocities were committed. Verask could not, in the wake of all this disaster, sit idly by and support the new "Systems Authority" which rose from the ashes. Instead, he severed all ties and entered into a peaceful retirement on Bothawui.

Then came the Call of the Force.

Like a gentle, nurturing hand, it guided him out of his stagnation and pointed him in a new direction. It encouraged him to take up the saber and carry a new cause upon his shoulders. The Galaxy needed peace. The Galaxy craved order...and the Ession Reformation would gladly provide. Now, Verask boldly serves the cause of the Reformation and its New Jedi Order, in the hopes of seeing a utopia born through peace and order.

Indeed. The formatting makes me nearly weep in awe of its organization.
It's really cool how you still kept within the rules without automatically assuming that apprentices had to start out young.
