DESCRIPTION

Developed after the fall of the First Order for the newly independent government of Verkuyl, the VArCo-56 is the first notable blaster designed and manufactured on the planet since it regained its independence. Rushed into production to fulfill the need for a new service weapon, the VArCo-56 has seen service with multiple military forces across the Unknown Regions, most notably with the armed forces of Verkuyl and Bakura, which had adopted it as their standard-issue infantry rifle until the annexation of the two planets by the Eternal Empire.

As the standing armies of Verkuyl and Bakura were disbanded and replace by Settlement Defense Force contingents, many of the former servicemen and women of the two planets' militaries defected to the Eclipse Rebellion, taking much of their military equipment with them. As such, the VArCo-56 has become the de-facto standard issue service rifle for rebel infantry, also helped by the fact that the weapon is fairly common throughout the Unknown Regions, creating a high availability of spare parts.

Because it was rushed into production, the rifle features several notable drawbacks. Its stock is fairly crude and suffers from notoriously poor recoil mitigation and the rifle is fairly maintenance intensive, requiring extremely frequent cleaning in order to prevent stoppages and other malfunctions. However, the VArCo-56 also has an innovative power cell design, increasing the amount of ammunition and it also features very good ergonomics, minus the recoil mitigation problem, being a very balanced rifle. It is also equipped with an optical sight which, although rudimentary, it gives a small accuracy increase in comparison to regular iron sights. The rifle can also be fitted with a single shot Underbarrel Grenade Launcher, a modification which can be performed fairly easily in the field, although by default it is equipped with a flashlight and it also features a bayonet locking lug.
