Appearance:
Twi’leks come in a wide and vivid variety of skin colouration. Vanja is a Twi’lek of the Rutian race, one of the more common subgroups among the Twi’lek population. The different races were all physically identical except for their skin pigmentation. Vanja’s skin is smooth and of an azure blue colour.

Typical of her species, Vanja has little to no body hair, with the only notable exception being eyelashes to aid in keeping out the sand and heat of Ryloth. Similar to other females of her kind she has painted eyebrows in order to appear more palatable and less alien to more base-line humanoid offworlders.

Vanja has a light but athletic frame. Rigorous Jedi training has kept her in good shape. She is both attractive and slender. The beauty of female Twi’leks was well known throughout the galaxy, something which has led to them becoming favourite subjects for slavery and entertainment. Her eyes are hazel coloured. Like other Twi’lek she has sharp claw-like nails maintained at an appropriate length.

Perhaps the Twi’leks most distinct racial feature are their “lekku”, “head-tails” or “tchun-tchin”. Being no exception, Vanja sports a pair of long and shapely prehensile tentacles grown out of her skull. These were in fact advanced organs used for communication and cognitive functions, containing part of a Twi’lek’s brain (as well as simply storing fat). They were also a source of great pride, and depending on its shape considered status symbols. When Vanja drinks too much alcohol her lekku takes on a more greenish colour.

While most male Twi’leks wore long, loose robes, the females typically wore tighter, more revealing clothing to maintain their elegant figures. Similarly, Vanja’s attire is practical albeit somewhat revealing. She will sometimes wear ornate jewelry or leather bindings on her lekku.

Traits and Abilities
Strengths and weaknesses:

Silver tongue: Vanja is good at talking. She is charismatic and can be quite persuasive. She is an effective mediator in negotiations, skilled at defusing tension and signs of hostility. Vanja is not above using Force powers or her beauty to seduce people into giving her information.

Stick ‘em with the pointy end: Vanja shows an aptitude for swordsmanship and is quite capable with a lightsaber. She is nimble, acrobatic and blessed with a fast reaction-rate. Thanks to the Jedi her talents are put to good use, as she’s effectively been bred for combat.

Hands off my brain: A Twi’lek’s brain tails were highly sensitive, and grabbing them forcefully was so painful that it could easily incapacitate almost any Twi’lek. Since the top portion of the lekku near the head housed parts of a Twi’lek’s brain, damage to this part of the brain tails also caused lasting brain damage since the tissue within governed basic motor functions as well as housing repressed subconscious memories.

Laws? More like guidelines: Vanja is a staunch individualist and has little regard for the law or figures of authority. If it feels right she will break it to achieve her goals. Considering authority figures generally have power and don’t look too kindly on the law being broken willy nilly, she has a tendency to run into trouble with both the Jedi Order and local governments.

Languages: Twi’leki (Ryl), Huttese, Galactic Basic, Lekku Language

Personal skills
  • Luck ‘o the Force. Perhaps something natural to those blessed with the Force, Vanja is quite lucky. This may manifest itself in various ways.
  • Many Force-sensitives displayed a great affinity for unrelated abilities. Some had a natural talent for piloting, mechanics, etc. Like many of her people, Vanja is a talented dancer. It’s in the blood, they say. She has a passion for it.
  • While her strengths definitely lie with the Force and lightsaber combat, she is not untrained in martial arts. She can usually hold her own in a fist fight. Vanja is fond of throwing kicks.
  • Although she is not a gambler at heart, she has a lot of fun playing games such as pazaak and sabacc. Vanja tends to win too.
Personality
Vanja can quickly be summed up as a girl with a good heart and a free spirit. She is guided by her conscience with little regard for what others expect of her. Though she follows her own path and her moral compass may not always agree with that of society, she is both kind and benevolent. The young Twi’lek has no qualms about breaking laws in her fight against evil and the Dark Side. Though she is against torture, she is not opposed to “roughen up” someone to get information. Her moral code is similar to that of utilitarianism.

She values freedom and independence above all else. Vanja lacks a respect for concepts such as self-discipline and honour, believing them to limit the freedom to act. Vanja has a tendency to distrust authority figures, and believes that those who seek to rule others are by nature corrupt. Anything that restricts or abridge individual freedom is wrong in her eyes. The inviolable right of the individual to seek his or her own pleasures is one of the cornerstones of society in her mind. Vanja’s love of freedom also translates into interactions with romantic partners, where she values flexible relationships.

Her strong views on individuality and relaxed attitude towards the law has many view her as unpredictable. However, she always seeks to do good where she can. She is not motivated by greed or personal gain. She is pretty easy going, empathic and generally both cheerful and optimistic.Vanja is also quite impulsive and somewhat mischievous.

Vanja has proved in her training to be a skilled tactician. She is both intelligent and a quick thinker, even when put under great duress.

Biography
Pre-RP
Vanja Del’Vaan was born on Ryloth, also known as Twi’lek and Twi’lek Prime. The planet was located in the Outer Rim, known for its harsh conditions and being the homeworld of the Twi’leks. A peculiar trait about the world that made it stand out, was the phenomenon known as tidal locking. This left one side of the planet perpetually facing its sun and the other remained in darkness, giving name to the two sides Bright Lands and Nightlands.

She was brought into a loving family with parents who cared deeply for her. Even so her future remained uncertain and dim. Vanja wasn’t born into splendorous wealth. Her family lived in simple mud brick dwellings that protected them against the scorching heat of their homeworld. The fact that she was born a girl and not a boy meant that eventual enslavement was forever a looming threat. The natural grace and exotic beauty of the female Twi’lek made them a popular target among slave traders, and slavery was the main currency of Ryloth.

Her parents actually legitimately considered selling her into slavery. They were not cruel or driven by greed. Instead they were poor, lacked resources, and feared what life they left behind for their child. Many saw slavery as a way of saving children from growing up in Ryloth’s harsh environment. At least if they sold her they got to have some say in where she went, rather than if some gangsters simply grabbed her on her way home one day.

Fortunately for Vanja she was blessed with the Force. Not even four years old, her Force sensitivity was discovered by a Jedi travelling to Ryloth. The Jedi was permitted to take Vanja with him to be raised a Jedi. Her parents were naturally devastated to let her go, but they rejoiced in the fact that their daughter would grow up to become a Jedi, not a slave or a dried out corpse on the desert wastes of Ryloth.

Once getting over her homesickness, Vanja thrived in her new environment. She was a quick learner, much because of her great eagerness and motivation to understand her powers. The Force allowed her to defy the physical restrictions put on her and become more, better. To her credit she did not grow arrogant or drunk on that power. She angled it towards good before it could take root in her ego. Instead the young Twi’lek developed a fierce sense of independence and love for freedom that frequently saw her butting head with the Jedi Masters who required her to behave a certain way.
