Here, we examine the case of Diana Sheplin, better known as Valery.
The young woman was born on Talravin, to two rather successful business-people. She had a younger sister, Nyla, born four years later. The two of them were very close, and maintain contact to this day, despite Diana's later actions.
There is little of note in Diana's early life. She had a very average childhood, making good grades and socializing with other children. The only event out of the ordinary is an encounter with a wild animal at the age of twelve, where Diana obtained her fascination with nature.
She began to seek out knowledge on the natural world, often spending hours at her local library reading of the untamed worlds of the galaxy, and dreaming about what life what would be like living off of the land on these exotic and wild worlds. While reading these books, she stumbled upon old human philosophers, and instantly fell in love with the concept of living on the road, and traveling to make the most of her life.
In the meantime, Diana began to have arguments with her parents over this. They wished for her to go to the local university, and enter into the business field with them, hopefully taking over the company one day.
Diana wanted nothing to do with it. She argued that degrees meant nothing, that business and capitalism was the downfall of galactic civilization.
They convinced her to take a speeder, though it was old and barely functioning. When she was sixteen, they woke up one morning to find the speeder and Diana missing.
She hit the road, taking the speeder to the nearest spaceport, where she abandoned it, donated all of her credits, and burned any form of identification she had on her. That day, Diana ceased to exist, and Valery was conceived.
From Talravin, Valery caught rides on ships across the galaxy, going where she pleased, in exchange for work to be done once she got to where she was going.
Valery never stayed in once place for more than two months, constantly moving, trying to see as much of the galaxy as she could.
Over the next two years, Valery established many camps and hideouts across the galaxy, constantly moving between them, keeping no possessions she couldn't keep in the backpack she kept with her. She had no money, few friends, and seemingly no future.
And she couldn't be happier.
