OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: Further flesh out the Typhos Clone Family. This character is a clone of Darth Shadow, a long-time antagonist of Siobhan Kerrigan. This submission and its contents have been discussed with [member="Valiens Nantaris"], the character's original writer.
  • Image Credit: Here. Photo of 'Loki', played by Tom Hiddleston in the Avenger series.
  • Role: Clone of Darth Shadow, sibling to Amara and Enyo. Valerian is one of the members of the Typhos clone family. He is an aspiring junior officer and skilled in esoteric applications of the Force. He is intended to become a commander for Archangel's forces.
  • Links: Breaking Elysium, Darth Shadow, Iron Fist Consortium.
PHYSICAL INFORMATION
  • Age: Less than a year since he's a clone. Has the body of a man in his early twenties.
  • Force Sensitivity: Apprentice
  • Species: Cloned Human.
  • Appearance: Human male of average height. Lean in build. Has dark hair, pale skin, a longish face and a prominent nose. Has large blue eyes. He is clean-shaven and takes pride in his appearance. Graceful in his movements. Enyo dislikes his impractical, long locks and keeps telling him to get a proper haircut.
SOCIAL INFORMATION
  • Name: Valerian
  • Loyalties: Typhos Clone Family, Enyo, Amara, Archangel.
  • Wealth: Moderate. Like all of the clones, he receives a share of the family's profits. The pay is on a sliding scale based on experience, rank, merit and so on. Big Sister Enyo is extremely disdainful of crass displays of wealth. So while he gets enough money to take care of himself, he is not rich. He is a bit of a materialist though.
Notable Possessions:

  • Crossguard Lightsabre

  • Copy of 'The Decline and Fall of the Galactic Empire' by Edwina Gybbon

  • Force Illusion
  • Psychometry
  • Force Drain
  • Interest in Sith Alchemy (novice, will develop as he grows in skill)
  • Lightsabre combat
  • Logistics
  • Tactical planning
  • Piloting

Personality: Valerian shares many traits with his template. Darth Shadow always had a good mind for the big picture and details. Much like his template, Valerian has an analytical mind. Rather than acting rashly, he considers multiple angles before deciding on a course of action. Patience and cunning are his primary assets, even without the Force. These traits could make him a good commander one day. Enyo has recognised this and he's been receiving officer training from Tactical Droids and HRDs. Unlike his template, Valerian has a strong interest in military matters.

This is a trait he shares with Enyo, but it manifests in different ways. While the Cyborg has proven herself a capable planner, she is more of a tactical battlefield commander prefers she's the warrior type who'd lead from the front. Being a squishy human, Valerian cannot match her superhuman strength and durability. In contrast to his 'sister', he would probably prefer to lead from the rear where he can control the battlefield. He's demonstrated an aptitude for planning and logistics. That said, he's ready to get his hands dirty. If he finds himself engaged in personal combat, his attitude can be described as that of a combat pragmatist. He's not the strongest or the most durable fighter, so he will use whatever tools or techniques he has at his disposal. This includes retreating when he's clearly outmatched. Like Shadow, Valerian has an interest in Sith alchemy. He's still a novice in the art, but has shown promise.

However, he also has a bit of a superiority complex. Thus he does not react well when others do not share his high opinion of himself. Moreover, he's a humanist and has a tendency to make snide comments about aliens. He finds the non-human-like aliens distasteful. This can get him into trouble. Enyo finds such sentiments tiresome, as she does not care about the species of her minions, just that they do as they do their job well. Valerian enjoys a good battle of wits, but above all he enjoys winning one. He uses his wits as his main method of attack and defence. As he is fond of saying Enyo has her warhammer, and he has his mind and a mind needs books as a sword needs whetstone if it is to keep its edge. While having the virtue of patience, Valerian suffers from the sin of pride. This is another thing he has in common with his template. All things considered, he's quite affable, though very snobbish.

His relationship with his 'sister' Thalia, another member of the clone family, is rather poor. She finds him insufferable due to his tendency to use 'big words', while he regards her as an uneducated rube. Ironically, her template is Phylis Alince, a dedicated scholar and Jedi Consular. His relationship with Thuella, clone of Tempest and resident tech whiz, is pretty good. Both enjoy stimulating intellectual debate, but they have different fields of expertise. So they are not in direct competition and can respect the others' accomplishments without feeling threatened. Alexia, the second clone of Kaelin Isandros, and Valerian both compete for Enyo's favour, each wanting to be her first lieutenant. Enyo finds their rivalry useful because it gives them incentive to excel, but is also irritated by it because she expects everyone to put family first. Of course, this is easy for her to say because she's in charge, which means that she gets to determine what the family's interests happen to be!

His opinion on Enyo, Amara and Alexia can be summed up in the following quotes:

"Well first there is dear Enyo, the mother of our dysfunctional family. Fierce and determined, Enyo by name, Enyo by deed. Do not let her appearance fool you, she is no dilettante noblewoman dressed in silks and fawned over by courtesans and catamines. No, she is a formidable warrior, and shows commendable strength."

"Second you have Amara, poor naive Amara. The term 'there's one born every minute' comes to mind for one so obsessed with pretending she is not Kaelin Isandros that she will do the silliest things to prove it. Her dedication to her small crew of misfits in endearing I'm sure, but rather sad considering she seems willing to sacrifice herself rather than her minions at any opportunity.

"Ah yes, my dear sister Alexia, who feels she is somehow qualified to be second to Enyo. For some reason her delusions are indulged. I suppose she is fortunate to wear Amara's face. It would appear even my big sister is not wholly immune to sentiment."

COMBAT INFORMATION
  • Weapon of Choice: Lightsabre, pistol, his mind.
  • Combat Function: Valerian relies on finesse rather than strength. His preferred lightsabre style is Makashi. He's very elegant and fluid, but not one for blocking blaster salvoes, leaping around or hammering opponents through brute force. He considers firearms primitive and crass, but Enyo insists he keep a pistol or a hold-out blaster on his person, just in case. He is not a good rifle shot and not trained in the use of heavy weapons. Valerian has a strong Force connection and is adept in the use of mental powers and in draining another being's life force. He's a decent pilot, but not a dogfighter.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION

Valerian is one of the Force clones that were liberated by Enyo Typhos and [member="Amara Zarides"] when they destroyed Archangel's secret base with the aid of the Contingency. While the clone is young in years, the history of his template, Darth Shadow, is a long one. It also happens to be tied up with that of the templates of several of the other clones, including Enyo's herself.

Darth Shadow was born during the reign of Vitiate, prior to the Sith Empire's invasion of the Republic. He joined the Sith order, rose in power and status and grew to be become a devious, powerful Master of the dark arts. Like all Sith he sought power and to this end he created various artefacts. His biggest mistake was challenging Vitiate, for he believed that the Sith Emperor was a fraud the Dark Council used to keep everyone else in line. So he assembled a coalition of like-minded Sith lords and masters. They conspired to confront the Dark Council and force their demands on them, unwittingly following in the footsteps of Darth Lokess’ failed coup.

Alas, Vitiate turned out to be real. After beating the renegade, he locked him an oubliette. This turned out to be an unintended blessing because it allowed Shadow to outlive both the Sith Emperor and the Empire itself. He awoke during the Gulag Virus. Suffice to say being asleep for thousands of years had a negative effect on his sanity, but he set to work. He used a more primitve version of the Sith Emperor's ritual to prolong his own lifespan, feeding off the death the Gulag Virus had inflicted upon the Galaxy.

He twisted a young woman, Kaelin Isandros, into becoming a sadistic assassin called Darth Keraunos. Siobhan Kerrigan and her master Adril Tythorin encountered Shadow, foiling a project of his to create a zombie army loyal to him. In retaliation, he sought to possess Adril. When this plan was thwarted, he infested Siobhan's mind. Waiting many months, he seized his chance when she was estranged from her master and in a vulnerable place. Using his powers of suggestion and illusion, he twisted her mind, compelling her to murder two Jedi and steal a holocron he had craved. While he was ultimately banished, the Jedi exiled her.

Their rivalry would continue even after Siobhan had left the Jedi order. Stakes were raised when Shadow collaborated with Moira Skaldi to lure Siobhan Kerrigan into a trap, which ended with her being spaced. However, ultimately their enmity would prove to be his undoing, as Shadow's physical body was destroyed by Siobhan in a brutal duel on Bosph. Whether the Sith's spirit will be able to return again due to backup plans he had in place remains to be seen.

However, his clone survives, as he'd commissioned Archangel to create one for him. Perhaps Shadow intended to use him as a host. Or as another pawn on the chessboard. But since the Sith Lord was, to all intents and purposes, dead, the HRDs simply decided to make use of the Force clone themselves. Just as they had made of the DNA sample of Kaelin Isandros. Hopefully this clone would be more loyal than Enyo and Amara, respectively the clones of Siobhan and Kaelin.

Valerian was given the best conditioning and flash memory induction that Archangel could produce. This ensured she would awaken knowing everything he needed to know, and could be trained to be an asset to the machine cult. Unfortunately, as Archangel were already well aware of, organics were extremely difficult to control. They have a tendency of not doing as they're told, even though their mechanical overlords know better.

When Valerian awoke, he found himself not in an Archangel laboratory, for it had just been blown up, but on Enyo's and Amara's ship. He was also informed that virtually everything his flash learning had told him about Archangel and their plans to make the galaxy great again was a lie. All things considered, he took it rather well. Composed, curious but also wary, he requested evidence, studied and then, after a reasonable amount of time, concluded that it was probably accurate. He was not the type to angst about things. It did not escape him that in another life Amara had been his minion. Later on, he met Enyo, who had elected herself as 'brood mother' of the clones. No one was in a position to contest her claim. It probably helped that she was tougher than the lot of them put together.

Much like his template, Valerian soon manifested a curious, analytical mind with an eye for detail and the larger picture. Enyo took notice, though she disliked his snobbishness and xenophobia and put him through some harsh training to teach him some humility. It did not eliminate these traits, much to her annoyance, though it taught him to keep them in check. What pleased Big Sister was the interest he displayed in military matters.

This gave them something to bond over, as Enyo has a warrior mentality. So she took the lad on a number of raids and assigned droids and grizzled mercenaries to teach him about warfare. The shelves in his room were soon filled with maps and military history books. Being an autodidact with a somewhat disparaging view of book learning, Enyo made sure he gained practical experience; in other words, participated in her syndicate's raids and got blood on his hands. She also taught him how to use a lightsabre. While he was occupied training, Valerian also took an interest in online strategy games and become very good at them. He claimed it was training, but Enyo found this habit annoying and believed he was wasting his time.

It did not take long before he got the chance to gain some practical experience. Enyo expected her siblings to be self-sufficient and prove their mettle. So she sent them on little missions to test their skills and reliability based on what she wanted them to become when they grew up. Ori'vod knew best, after all. In Valerian's case, he was dispatched to a science conference about nanotechnology Fondor to uncover an Archangel spy, who happened to be an HRD.

Since Enyo did not want him to fight it alone, she sent an operative called Johanna Tyrone, her own undercover agent, to assist. Valerian's deductive skills helped them unmask the droid. The fight was messier than Enyo would have liked, but the HRD was destroyed and the pair recovered its chip for her to study. Valerian also managed to steal some technical data that had been the subject of the conference. Later, he accompanied Enyo to Alderaan to participate in the Sith Empire's assault on the planet, as her group had been hired to assist. Their target was the city of Juranno. The Iron Fist Consortium paramilitary forces linked up with Sith troops commanded by the Sorceress [member="Matsu Xiangu"] and the ancient war droid @Six-O.

While the Maenan Last Fathers and the Iron Fist Consortium's vanguard assaulted the Juran mountain peaks, where they engaged in fierce combat with Alderaanian mountain troops, the city itself was subjected to a relentless artillery bombardment. Valerian played a minor role in organising the logistical side of the assault and helped supervise the artillery bombardment. He kept his nerve when the Iron Fist's self-propelled artillery came under aerial assault by Alderaanian bombers, taking control of an anti-aircraft gun and rallying surviving artillerists.

Counterattacks by Alderaanian patriots forced him into close and personal combat, as he was ordered to join the main assault with a force of reserve soldiers. Being more than a little arrogant and self-confident in his command of the Force, he suffered injuries from shrapnel and blaster fire during the fighting. Finding some cover, he was able to turn his inherent talent for illusions into a force multiplier by confusing or distracting enemy soldiers, helping his comrades gain an edge.

However, the ripples this left in the Force caused other Force-sensitives to take notice and so he was confronted by a Jedi, a Twi'lek female. She was not the type to preach in the middle of a battlefield and make ineffectual attempts to convert a man who was obviously on the other side and trying to kill her allies. So both engaged in a duel. Valerian had not faced another Force-user outside of training duels and was somewhat xenophobic. Thus the fight would be a lesson for him since the Jedi was more experienced. Valerian was able to get some good hits in initially. His prowess with illusions also helped him weaken his opponent by playing with her mind. However, rather than press his edge advantage, he made the classic villain mistake: Taunting and gloating. This backfired on him horribly, for the Jedi smote him with the power of the light. Valerian defended himself furiously, but the tide of the duel had turned against him. He sustained severe burns on his right forearm and wrist, and a nasty gash to his abdomen. Having been deprived of his weapon, he was saved from sure death at the Jedi's hand when Enyo intervened by shooting his opponent with buckshot and breaking her leg.

Suffice to say the Cyborg was very irritated with Valerian's conduct. He'd been served some humble pie. Medics took care of him, but at Enyo's instruction, he only received minimal attention because she wanted the pain to be a lesson to him. Indeed his Jedi opponent received more aid because Enyo respected her prowess and decided to 'save her'...by indoctrinating and cyborgising her. Valerian got the chance to redeem himself on subsequent missions. When a pandemic broke out in the lower level of Coruscant, where the Iron Fist Consortium operated in, he displayed a cool head, though he and his team were cut off from Enyo's main force. Enyo approved of the harsh methods he utilised to try and contain the outbreak in the district he was stuck in. These included sealing up the houses of plague victims - with the occupants still inside! - and shooting rioters. Harsh quarantines were imposed when members of the gang displayed signs of sickness.

Around this time Valerian developed a rivalry with Alexia. She was the second clone of Kaelin Isandros and on the fast track of becoming Enyo's favourite. She and [member="Farah"], a Sith knight and clone of the Rogue Master Joza Perl, discovered the laboratory where the virus had been manufactured. This gained Alexia some credit, and Valerian felt that his own efforts had not been acknowledged enough. Being siblings, they competed for the 'brood mother's favour. For her part, Enyo alternated between being irritated by their behaviour and encouraging a certain degree of competitiveness because she figured it would provide them with additional incentive to do their jobs well. However, she sent Valerian to Vorzyd, where he could make an impact by accelerating the Iron Fist's attempts to wrest control over the criminal underworld from the more established cartels, under the supervision of one of Enyo's HRD minions.

His efforts pleased Enyo and he was brought in from the cold and given a role on what passed for her 'general staff'. He helped plan the final phase of the campaign against Archangel. When an unexpected counterattack from her creators forced Enyo to radically accelerate her timetable and muster all the allies she could find for the final assault on the machine cult, a portion of the Iron Fist's troops were placed under his control. He got an HRD to advise him on matters. Knowing where his skills lay, Valerian elected to coordinate matters from the rear, which is where an officer should be, as it allows him to oversee things better. Controlling his sister's small 'fleet' and some of the ground forces, he organised deployment. He kept his nerve during the fierce fighting, while Enyo led the main assault in person. When the battle ended its hottest phase, he deployed his sister's savage Kraal allies.

As he later told Enyo after the battle, "Sweet sister, the Kraal are frothing beasts straining at the leash. I pointed them to the point of greatest danger and told them 'yonder lies the hottest fight and deadliest foe, strike now for greatest honour'. Naturally I had to repeat myself using smaller words, but they got the clue in time. Now the survivors are puffed up and gloating, their lizard brains inflamed by victory. Doubtless they will return home to their dirt warrens and boast about their great victories." Casualties were heavy, but he considered this to be a necessary loss and thus did not lose sleep over it. Archangel's bastion fell when Enyo took control over the machine' cult's droid army after confronting her clone duplicate. With their Creators both destroyed, the clone insurrection had succeeded.

In the aftermath of the fighting, Enyo and Amara had a parting of ways. While both sisters loved one another deeply, their morals were not compatible. However, their separation was an amicable one. Amara was joined by the two clones Thalia and Chiyoko. She also took along an HRD Enyo had insisted serve as a bodyguard and not so secret spy. Valerian was free of the moral scruples of Amara and decided to stay with Archangel.

Seeing as Valiens liked your sub I can take that as proof of permission. I remember seeing Sadow around, so this was an interesting read. Apprentice-level forcer, not grossly imbalanced and reasonable in their skills, I don't see any issues with this.

Nicely done, pending secondary approval!
