The sharp click of heels on the durasteel plate deck echoed in the small corridor. Surprising, to be called in at this hour, though space operations hadn't been operating on a day/night cycle exactly so it wasn't entirely unexpected. What was unexpected is to be singled out at this time of "night". He'd been just reaching the middle of his sleep cycle when he'd gotten the page over the intercom system.

The message had repeated itself once more before the comm deactivated. Seconds later, a short warbling chirp could be heard at the comm panel on the other side of his quarters. In the bunk, beneath the slim cotton covers, Vale Endriss rolled over, letting out a sigh. Quickly, he lifted himself from bed, rubbing the sleep from his eyes. It only took him a moment to replace the covers, making sure they were tight on his bunk before shuffling over to his small desk.
Vale was organized. That, and he liked to be prepared. As a pilot, you had to be. The call to scramble could be given at any time, 'day' or 'night'. He reached down, carefully retrieving his uniform. It wasn't anything terribly complex, somewhere between a jumpsuit and his Class A's. Vale quickly donned it, double checking himself in the small mirror, making sure everything looked in order. Seeing that it was, he turned on his heel, heading out towards Deck 3. He'd been stationed on the carrier for a few months now, routine patrols and daily routine slowly whittling away at his patience. It wasn't so much that he didn't enjoy what he was doing, but he'd joined the Galactic Alliance to do things and so far he'd only been on a few routine patrols with nothing to show except a new collection of views from his cockpit.
His thoughts came back to focus as he approached the cabin he'd been instructed to report to, he didn't know what was waiting for him inside. Taking a deep breath, he pressed the button on the control panel, the doors hissing open and he stepped inside.
Sitting at a durasteel desk in front of him was a grizzly looking man, stubble evident despite the man's apparent attempt at a shave. He was busy inputting data on a console, fingers typing away. Without looking up he spoke.
"Vale Endriss?" Without waiting for an answer, he continued. "Get your kit, you're being transferred. Blue Squadron suffered a casualty, you're going to be a temporary assignment. You will report to your leader no later than this time tomorrow."
The man went back to typing, pausing for a moment as if in thought, and then continued. Vale stood there, entirely unsure of what had just happened. He stood there at attention, unsure of how to proceed. A few moments passed when the typing suddenly stopped. The man behind the desk, an officer, looked up at Vale with an annoyed sneer.
"What are you still doing here? Go!"
Vale uttered a quick "Yes sir!" and turned to leave. It was then that he truly realized what had just happened. A part of him wanted to jump for joy... he'd finally be getting an assignment, even if temporary! His thoughts were interrupted by a gruff voice coming from the cabin he'd just exited.
"By the way... Shuttle leaves the main hangar in fifteen minutes!"
Vale nearly coughed in surprise. Fifteen minutes, he'd barely have enough time to gather his belongings and scoot. In a flurry of movement, his feet rapidly moved him towards his cabin...
Blue Squadron. A grin spread over Vale's features as he gathered his belongings. He didn't care that it was a temporary assignment, it was something new, and exciting!
