Name: Urko

Designation: Sentient.

Homeworld: Kashyyyk (7th and 6th layers) and migrated to Trandosha

Language: Broken basic, primal grunts

Average height of adults: Varies heavily, anywhere from 1-2.5 meters

Skin color: Various shades of green

Hair color: Usually bald, but can be black.

Breathes: Type 1

Strengths:

Strong- an Urko can be twice as strong as a regular human or humanoid. They are naturally muscular.

Good with their hands- Urkos are hands on, they make great engineers, mechanics, and builders.

Strong immune system- it is very rare for an Urko to get sick.

Not squeamish- Urko's don't get freaked out by violence or pain, making torture on them difficult

No fear- these species has little place for fear in their battle centered society.

Hardy- With strong bones, long endurance, and lethal aim...these guys are the perfect warriors.

Battle Centered- Their entire culture is formed around war, making them the perfect warrior.

Weaknesses:

Stupid- Most Urkos are sheer idiots.

Mentally Vulnerable- A padawan or acolyte wouldn't have much trouble mind tricking one of these.

Battle Centered- Their society is battle centered, meaning death and dismemberment are a daily activity.

Easily Angered- These guys are bombs with short fuses.

Short lifespan- An Urko can live to be 80 or even 100. However, due to the war-centeredness of the tribes their lives are generally cut short by 20 years.

Distinctions: Green, tusks, large teeth, large frames, muscular, aggressive, speaks broken basic.

Average Lifespan: 60 years in a tribe, 80 outside, 100 uncommonly

Races: 3

Warlord: Rare, these giants usually reach 2.5 meters and are the strongest of tribe. However, they are easily the stupidest of the bunch. As assumed by their names, Warlords are usually the best fighters and are commanders. The warlords typically live up into their 70's due to them being skilled at combat. The warlords usually have a council of engineers they seek advice on the more deeper matters of war such as troop placement and where/when to attack. Leading styles depend from warlord to warlord.

Solider: Common, reaching around 1.75-2 meters these guys are the foot soldiers, the front line, and also the most popular. While not totally stupid compared to their big brothers the warlords, don't expect any works of philosophy out of them. It wouldn't be unheard of for a high ranking solider to ascend to a commander position, however it would be uncommon.

Engineer: The smartest and smallest of the tribal caste system, this buggers only reach around 1 meter in height. To compensate they build mechs to help them in battle. They also build cybernetic enhancements for the soldiers and warlords. The best engineers can expect to be given a commander position due to their increased intellect and powerful suits. Thus, it is very common for an engineer to obtain a commander position.

Estimated Population: Several million.

Diet: Meat, meat, meat and more meat. Carnivores.

Communication: Mix of primal grunts and broken basic.

Culture:

War centered and violent to the uttermost, Urkos are fierce warriors and never back down from any fight. The species fights with anyone, Wookies, Trandoshans and even themselves. Conflict can arise over who ate the last of a popular dessert or who misplaced Uncle Gunk's rifle. The species has a long running history or fighting with the Wookies, and have grown to be part time allies with the Trandoshans. Sometimes, breeding can occur between the two species to create a half reptilian half Urko being. They either have the advantages of both or the drawbacks of both.

Life expectancy is low due to the war centered-ness of of their culture, however should an Urko live outside a tribe it could expect to live up to 20 years longer than it would have if they were in a tribe. Wildlife, food, and other things can affect a lifespan, but if you but an Urko on a planet with no hostile wildlife, tons of food and friendly natives it would live to be 80, possibly 100 if they didn't get sick. War requires death, and when you have a culture centered around it, the pale horse of death follows. Conflict is frequent meaning the tribes must always be ready for war. A tribe that has not had conflict in over a month, or is not prepared is seen as weak.

Anything war related, whether is be a warrior, smith, engineer, or combat medic, is seen as a noble and desirable position. The higher your military rank, the higher your rank in society. Dying in battle is also preferable than to be captured as it would be better to die a hero than to be captured and subjugated to the enemy's attempts at torture.

Trading with other tribes is only done when absolutely necessary. Most tribes pride themselves on being independent, as it is seen as a sign of strength to not rely on others. Due to this, most tribes raise their own meat in the form of some type of cattle or animal. While an Urko can eat plants and crops, they detest it and prefer a morsel of meat over an entire garden.

The Urko are not religious folk. With no common religion, war appears to be their god. However, it would not be entirely uncommon for an Urko to be converted to some sort of religion outside their village. It's not that an Urko wouldn't be open to the presence of an supreme entity, it's simply they don't have the time.

Coming of age trials are uncommon as a boy is considered a man when he gets his first humanoid kill. Girls are considered women when they have children, thus old, barren females rank low in society. To find an old Urko male that hasn't had a kill would be highly improbable as they are taught combat tactics early in life.
Technology level: Sub-par

General behavior: Urkos are angered very easily and are prone to burst into fits or rage. These fits can be caused by anything, and usually last quite a long time. During these fits, Urkos yell, scream, swear, and physically harm the enviroment and people around them.

However, they are hard workers and fiercely loyal to a cuase they devote themselves to. A relationship with a Urko takes time to start but grows quickly. These relationships can grow to such devotion that an Urko would lay down his or her life for their friend.

They are also creatures of hatred, once you have offended or angered an Urko it is difficult to make amends. This hatred is so deep it would cause a Urko to become enraged upon seeing the target, and in certain cases even hearing the name of the person. Should this hatred be deep enough it would spur the Urko to commit heinous acts against the hated.

History: The Urkos have been a long standing threat to the people and beings of Trandosha and Kashyyyk. They started out strong in their early days, unified and a major threat. They began a massive genocide on the Wookies, aided by the Trandoshans. However, infighting separated them and caused this coalition to dissolve in a matter of weeks. This division would slowly break 2 major factions down into several dozen tribes. Some of these tribes would join their allies, the trandoshans, on their ventures to and fro. A large portion of the species eventually migrated to Trandosha.

During the Rakata population, the Urko united once more to fight off the Rakata who they saw as invaders They made their homes deep in caves and canyons. The tribes united and started all out guerilla warfare against these invaders. Their fight helped push the Rakata off the planet.

During the Czerka occupation, the Urko were not affected by the occupation. Rather, they were in the process of the unified tribe being split up again. When Czerka offered bounties for the Wookies, this actually helped the Urko when they realized that if they were united they could make a small fortune off their sworn enemies. The Urko were united once again and waged all out war against the Wookies, bringing hides, live, dead and half mutilated Wookies in as bounties for Czerka.

During the revolt led by Revan, the Urko worked hard in conjunction with Czerka to make sure that Revan did not succeed and that the bounties for Wookies stayed up. But alas, Revan's rebellion succeeded and Czerka was driven out. But, this was not without heavy fighting on the end of the Urkos.

After the Brotherhood of Darkness invaded Kashyyyk, Republic forces received heaving fighting from both sides. Outside the trees they had Sith shooting in and from behind them they had Urko shooting at them. This alliance with the Sith was due to the deep ties the Urko held with Czerka, who are a major arms supplier of the One Sith. All it took was to find out that 'Czerka People' sell to the Sith and that was all they needed to take up arms against the Republic. This fighting was not just during the invasion, it was active at all times during the Republic's time on Kashyyyk. However, fighting was most active during the ivasion due to the increased courage the Urko had while the Sith were on the planet.

The Mandolorian Wars did not concern the Urko, they merely shot whoever they came into contact with. These wars were different from the Rakata invasion simply because the Urko were largely unaware of the larger conflict outside of their world. Should a patch of Jedi or Mandolorians come into contact with the Urko they would be shot or engaged on contact.

The events on Kashyyyk during the Clone Wars did not perturb the Urko who were attempted to be contacted by the Republic, but denied these requests. The CIS, ruthless in their tactics, understood the Urko better than the Republic did and did not attempted to contact them. The Urko, naturally, only fought against the Republic and were the largely unknown guerilla fighters of the CIS.

Despite many attempts to enslave their species, the Urko remained free. The reign of Darth Vader and Emperor Palpitine was no different. Due to their hostile-ness towards the Urko, the tribes united for a final time to launch assaults on Imperial camps, slave camps, lumber yards and various installments. Due to the united state of the Urko, their long standing freindship with Trandoshans and the temporary alliance with the Wookies, the Empire was resisted harshly on Kashyyyk making it one of the worst places to be deployed. Even though the Wookies were their sworn enemies, the Urko even liberated Imperial camps holding mostly Wookies.

These beasts survived the Gulag plague without harm due to their resistance to outsiders. Some human traders decide to roll around? Shoot 'em. Weak Wookie pacifists want to make peace? Shoot 'em. However, the Netherworld event would not be so kind. Over 20% of the population evaporated overnight, entire tribes disappeared, only adding the anger of the Urkos. It only took 1 or 2 infections of an Urko due to a dead corpse for them to catch on. During the Gulag Plague, the Urko avoided corpses and other sources of the plague at all costs.

As of currently, the Urko are becoming more receptive to outsiders and thus great leaps and bounds are being made in their technology. Before this acceptance came into play, the Urko usually mined their own materials. Now they are accepting very limited trading. The Urko are also currently unified under a single faction.

Their technology focuses on war machines. Mechs and battle carts are popular among the Urko, and most of the resources are spent on advancements of war and the machines. However, their machines do not even begin to compare to that of a semi-civilized race.

Notable Player-Characters: None currently.

Intent: Bring orcs into Star Wars and set up a species for a mercenary company I'm considering making. company I'm considering making.

So several things that need to be addressed in this submission which will be listed below:
  • I'm curious at the choice of placing this species in the Kashyyyk system, specifically how they came to be there and which part of the Kashyyyk layer system they live in
  • I will say their appearance description immediately evokes in my head the same look as the Orcs from Warcraft, Elder Scrolls, and Warhammer. Not sure if that was intentional or not, but it is an observation
  • Battle-centered is not a weakness by itself, so I would either have that moved to be both a strength and weakness and it would need a little more explanation as to why
  • Lifespan seems odds to me, how would an Urko outside a social structure be able to live 20 years longer than one that is within a social structure? Typically, a being survives longer if they are part of community of some sort compared to being on their own so I will either need this changed or expanded upon about how they are able to do this. Even then, it might need changed depending on the explanation
  • The different sects of the species need to be expanded upon, specifically their roles in society, belief system, etc.
  • Culture needs a little bit more work as I would want to know what they believe for religion, do they have any coming of age trials or events to showcase their strengths in a tribe, do they hunt species like the kinrath and such, and so.
  • If you are setting this species on Kashyyyk, you are missing a huge chunk of history that needs to be filled in. To name a few spots that need added in and expanded upon for the history are: Rakata occupation, Mandalorian and Jedi Civil War and the Czerka occupation, the Sith Wars and the occupation and battle during the New Sith Wars in particular, the Clone Wars and their stance on that, their stance during the Imperial occupation and enslavement of the planet, how they reacted to the New Republic coming in and liberating the planet and its participation in the New Republic, what did they do during the Yuuzhan Vong War, what did they do during the Second Galactic Civil War, and what did they do under the Krayt Empire and the blockade that was enforced on the planet after the Galactic Alliance was defeated by Krayt?
I'll be honest here and say this needs to be expanded upon greatly in several places, and it needs to be very careful in not borrowing too much from orcs of other universes.

So more things that need tended to:
  • So you say they reside on the seventh and sixth layers of Kashyyyk, but say they reside on the lowest level of the planet (Shadowlands) in another section of the sub. Seventh is the highest part of the jungle, where the Wookiees live. So pick one or the other.
  • The point about Battle-centered still needs to be addressed
  • You still need to explain to me how an Urko who lives outside a tribe lives 20 years longer than one who resides within, because given the nature of the wildlife on Kashyyyk, you can bet that life expectancy would probably be much lower.
  • I would like to see the role of warlord expanded upon more, if these are guys are the leaders and yet are mostly dumbest of their species, how exactly can they lead their people into war? How do they lead in general?
  • How do the engineers get access to their technology to build mechs and cybernetics and such if the tribes don't trade with outsiders or the Wookiees? Can you describe how effective these are compared to other such technology in the rest of the galaxy?
  • Okay for the history section, we're starting to get there. However, some things still need to be addressed there such as: During the Rakata occupation, they completed controlled and terraformed the planet and most definitely were on the Shadowlands level as in the game Knights of the Old Republic, there are Rakata ruins and computers and a Star Map on the ground. Another section of history that needs addressed is you left out what happened when Czerka came along to the planet in 4020 BBY. Did the Urko work with them to enslave the Wookiees? How did they react to Revan and Freyyr leading a revolt and liberating the planet? You also leave out the New Sith Wars when the planet was conquered by the Brotherhood of Darkness. How did the Urko react to these occupiers? Did they help them? Hinder them? For the Imperial Era, I need to know more about how they were able to resist being enslaved by the Empire when the Empire were leading full scale invasion forces to take the planet and enslaving anything that could provide strong labor? You also left out the New Republic era, the Yuuzhan Vong War, the events of Jacen Solo's attack on Kashyyyk during the Second Galactic Civil War, the Krayt Empire blockade.
  • For a final point in history I was waiting to address, I find it hard to believe that they didn't come into contact with a Gulag infected being during their wars and raids on Wookiee or Trandoshan settlements. Even corpses would still have the virus, and coming into contact with blood and such that was able to get into an Urko's system is going to infect them.

They resided in the still forming lower levels during the Rakata invasion. Once the Rakatas left, they moved up to the 6th and 7th.

Alright, I'll put it as a half weakness half strength.

Sorry, should have been more specific. To explain better, an Urko outside of his or her tribe can expect to live a life as long as 80 years. However, inside they are subjugated to frequent wars and thus their life expectancy goes down.

This completely slipped past me, edited.

Okay for the history section,
Edited.

So things are looking much better, but I still need an explanation as to how one of these guys can survive twenty years longer than one who lives in a tribe. I'm looking for a solid reasoning here besides they don't live together and participate in the wars, because the wildlife on Kashyyyk would be incredibly deadly for anything that is trying to live on its own. Kinrath, terentateks, giant weavers, katarns and so on would see them as prey, no matter who skilled at battle they were.

I mean like outside of a tribe on any planet, not just Kashyyyk. Wildlife, food, and other things can affect a lifespan, but if you but an Urko on a planet with no hostile wildlife, tons of food and friendly natives it would live to be 80, possibly 100 if they didn't get sick.

Add this explanation to the lifespan section and you'll be good to go

Whilst it has been partly improved due to the diligent work of [member="Taeli Raaf"], I am uncomfortable with how similar this is to a certain setting's greenskins.

I will approve this, but I hope you will put considerably more thought into future projects.

Approved.
