To boldly alchemize what no one alchemized before
For all the fame I have accrued in the realm of mental data transfer, for all the knowledge infusions I made, for all the students that also downloaded something from me, perhaps there is some drawback, which may or may not be some mental bottleneck, preventing Memory Rub or Drain Knowledge from enjoying a widespread used, that is related to the power itself and isn't cultural in nature, Janick thought, while having another vision of a potential Drain Knowledge user, and a rather independent one at that. As much as she acknowledged that often visions of this nature were misleading and, more often than not, led to flashes in a pan (like one Raith) she was willing to take the risk especially since there were limited opportunities to make use of such. To perform an infusion and have someone download from her. And yet, she knew that there would have to be something to be smuggled somewhere or else she wouldn't think the mark would take the bait. The most obvious one would be ygmicite, but it was better for her not to reveal everything just yet, even over the ShadowNet. As she prepared herself for another round of cloak-and-dagger adventures...

ATTN: Vytal Noctura Vytal Noctura

I would like you to learn more about some Force-tools that could make learning and teaching easier. It will make your search for information much easier, but also other aspects of teaching easier, and you can even do it painlessly if certain precautions are taken. Please meet with me in the outskirts of Kessil on the Fourth Moon of Utapau...

The dual-prong SJ-X22 flared into the system and swept in over the fourth moon of Utapau. It hadn't been the draw of making teaching easier -- one could hold the libraries of entire worlds in their head and still be reckless and foolhardy -- but the promise of learning something in and of itself that drew Vytal to accept this unusual invitation. The Mandragora sought knowledge in all forms from all sources with no regard for faction or allegiance. Limitations were placed on when and how knowledge was used -- that it be done so intelligently -- not in its acquisition.

Ident of her vessel whose registry happened to be forge was broadcast to any that sought to organize space or flight control in the region. While the Outer Rims and Confederacy governments got along well enough, Vytal knew the Outer Rims were a less well regulated region of space. If someone knew where the Nightmother was they might get foolish notions. Best her presence had low visibility. Fortunately, being an Obsidian Lord of the Knights Obsidian had a few perks such as asking the Confederacy's intelligence community in supplying valid transponder information. Not that it came without stipulations, but whatever information of the places they gleaned from her sensors was well worth it.

After touchdown, the Dathomiri woman with a hood thrown up about her head strode out of the vessel and onto the moon's surface. Her footsteps took her in the direction of the meeting place where this Janick of the Utai Magic Circle had chosen to meet.

These days, most clients that used Memory Rub-powered tutoring services were gullible NFUs, of various intellectual levels, but some people were skeptical of the Circle's claims. So when Vytal Noctura Vytal Noctura arrived on the moon, she was easy to spot in the Force. And, for some reason, the people who could become the best users of Memory Rub and Drain Knowledge would be difficult to find, but once you find one, it was a seed. And once Vytal landed, in fact, she took the direction of the Utapau Alchemy Castle; for some reason Janick could feel that newcomer was receptive to the use of Memory Rub and Drain Knowledge. The tall witch seemed to be absorbed in her memories of the various dark-siders she played host to specifically for these two powers, collectively bundled as "mental data transfer". Brawn and power are all fine and dandy, but sometimes there just is no substitute for intellect. Then again, MDT is very demanding on the users' minds, so I never cold-call people whose intellectual capabilities could be questionable regarding these powers, she thought, while the doorbell of the Castle rang. Upon seeing who was at the door, she looked at another witch whose mind seems to be preparing to absorb large amounts of information.

"I'm Janick, and you must be Vytal; welcome to the Utai Magic Circle"

Slowly Vytal reached up to draw the hood back and reveal her face as the door opened. Her green eyes beheld the woman that stood on the other side of the threshold as she spoke. The one that had sent the invitation had been the one to answer; most convenient. "I am her. Tis a lovely Castle, it reminds me of home." It appeared women of their kind had a similar taste in architecture; or perhaps it was sheer necessity to avoid rampaging hordes blaming a Witch for the ail of the week.

"I admit, I am interested in what you offered. Before we begin, however, might I know more about yourself and your Circle? Most interested as I am, I would not play the role of a Sith Lord that visits merely to extract what is useful only to ignore that which makes the whole." Learning a technique in a vacuum could lack certain subtleties that prevented you from extracting the full potential. How this Circle communed with the wider world might be just as important as how you applied the mystic powers to perform this transfer.

"The Utai Magic Circle is the business name of the coven, mostly dealing with alchemy. We deal in custom orders, but our mainstream product lines are alchemized electronics. We believe that knowledge should be made accessible and, of course, we feel that Sith may give perhaps an unnecessarily cruel picture of the dark side, in that we are using the dark side for something other than aggression. Which is, of course, why we even market Memory Rub-powered tutoring because then the instructor can teach faster than they normally would. It can be done painlessly so long as they don't infuse too fast for the student's own good"

What is, in my mind, one of the most under-appreciated alchemical devices in today's galaxy, allows Force-users to access the HoloNet with their minds, and it really drives home the Circle's motto: To boldly alchemized what no one has alchemized before, Janick thought, while getting a feel for Vytal Noctura Vytal Noctura 's brain in the Force. She could feel the brains of both women increasing in activity and, of course, some parts of their brains lighting up as a result. Sure Ashara had a fast brain, but Vytal is perhaps the most holistic of the people I dealt with. I think I can get along with both of them, since they are both in this for the long haul, realizing that most of the others were much more transactional in their attitude to learning, no matter how fast they could engage in MDT. Yet, some of the complaints filed by the clients seemed to be about how transactional the Circle's approach seemed to be, but these kinds of complaints were made by people with a certain range of learning styles, a tiny minority in fact.

"What it would mean to an acolyte for whom using Memory Rub on is counter-indicated, such as an Epicanthix, is that they would learn some powers by using them for more utilitarian purposes, such as using pyrokinesis and cryokinesis for cooking, or Force Lightning for recharging power cells"

Business name of the coven? Admittedly, Vytal had thought to give it a business name. On the other hand, the Knights Obsidian essentially purchased most of the surplus material and resources the Witches and Warlocks harvested. SOme went to local of Ryloth, of course. Formalizing the sales of any herbs or other materials hadn't come up before. Obviously, Janick did not have the same arrangement and establishing a legitimate means of distribution and payment had been sought after.

"Are you trying to market the Dark Side as something beneficial to society?" Vytal asked, curious about the way Janick had brought up the Sith. Sadly, most people couldn't be bothered to tell the difference between Light and Dark -- or Jedi, Sith, and Witch. Just 'those people that believed weird things.' It was quite tiresome.

The topic quickly turned toward 'Memory Rub,' which sounded like the mattered that Janick had summoned the Nightmother to bear witness. "These students do not experience any difficulty controlling the power this instilled knowledge might impart? Are they even able to use it at a heightened level, or is there still the practical development of the skill that's necessary?" Knowing how a power should work, and innately understanding it so it did work could be two completely different things. In truth, Vytal would prefer it still took practice to grow in strength. If you could simply instill high-level sorcery in a person... The ramifications could be frightening.

"The dark side could be used for more benevolent purposes, sure. I acknowledge that, while infusing, or downloading, knowledge has its uses, in the context of learning Force-powers, there are some limitations. As much as you could infuse or download knowledge painlessly, I am led to think there's another bottleneck when used in the context of learning Force-powers. In the past, students that I infused knowledge into had a very transactional attitude towards learning, and most of them deemed they only needed a basic level of knowledge in what I infused them, or what they downloaded from me, to be satisfied. Yes, it's entirely possible they could be experiencing difficulties in using the knowledge they downloaded, or got infused, but I believe it also depends on additional factors, including but not limited to, the intellectual capabilities of the people involved"

Ashara was the only one that I remember that got more than simply a basic level of understanding of whatever she downloaded from me, but how much practice using downloaded or infused content required to master it depended very much on a bunch of factors, such as the skill of the source in that specific subject matter, the skill of the user at infusing or downloading knowledge, and it had an inverse relationship to these variables, she thought, while pondering the implications Vytal Noctura Vytal Noctura asked about. To be fair, she never had much of an opportunity to follow up on the subsequent learning curves of the customers, but surely someone at Vytal's intellectual level would have a different learning curve compared to other people. Oh yes, Vytal's brain curves seem to be lighting up from my perspective... and I can even feel her brain curves' firmness! And mine too. I can also feel some pleasurable ichor flowing from her well-toned brain curves to me, but I'm not entirely sure if I have the same effect on her in reverse, she thought, while she was feeling some magicked pleasure driving her on a mental high.

"I suppose it depends on how long you keep the mental datachannel open, as well as how skilled one is at Memory Rub or Drain Knowledge. I also remember a few people downloading from me some powers for which downloading it from a practitioner was the safest method to learn it. For someone to actually instill high-level skill at a specific kind of magic, it would require someone with an equally high-level skill at infusing or downloading knowledge, as well as longer periods of time than what people are comfortable spending with someone for that purpose, assuming that the source has a high-level skill in the subject matter to begin with: the infusion/download can only be as good as the source"

So the woman's intent was not to market the Dark Side as being beneficial to society. It could be seen that way, and perhaps might even result in being used that way, but it was not a driving ambition to alter the preconceptions of those that bothered to understand the distinction between Light and Dark powers. The use of this particular power, however, naturally lent itself to such an aim. After all, most that basked in the Dark used their power for slaughter and conquest. Almost every single Jedi in recent history only thought of it as being used for such -- and they were all fools. Some came around, but not nearly enough. If only they could speak with the Nightsisters and learn there was more to the Darkness than warfare or suffering.

Though if you sent the wrong Jedi for such talks there would be plenty of suffering.

Vytal listened to what Janick said and nodded slightly. Knowledge obtained too easily or too cheapily might not be fully appreciated. Nor would it test the capabilities of the person that received it. If they could not retain most of the knowledge what ultimately would be the point?

A spiritual, alabaster snake draped itself about Vytal's shoulders. Its head lifted in line with her right ear as its tongue flicked out for just a second.

The corners of the Nightmother's lips turned upward. Vytal's radiant, green eyes observed Janick as she spoke, and could sense the ichor or aura as it grew with intensity and warmth. Obviously the current topic of conversation was pleasing to the Circle host. Vytal herself could hardly complain; so far they'd had a very fruitful conversation. As things were, she expected it would only continue on a worthwhile path.

To summarize in the simplest terms, "You cannot acquire something from nothing." Was that not the Force? Was that not Magick? Only to an untrained eye. The power wielded by Jedi, Sith, Witch, or any other in the galaxy did not come from nothing. In fact that was the focus of the Mandragora's study -- understanding the how and why things worked. "This could be a beneficial means of sharing simple and complex magicks. As you have said, there are rituals and powers that would be quite difficult to transcribe into words. Some things are more an...resonance to the world around the user rather than a combination of the right words and gestures." Vytal was quite familiar with such matters despite not having been a 'High Priestess' before leaving Dathomir. Being Nightmother had its privileges, and that involved reading whatever book (be it in the Library or the Vault) she desired. Some magicks she had attempted had yielded no results at all; perhaps she did not have the requisite understanding, or perhaps it was something that simply didn't translate well.

"There is, of course, a natural question when it comes to such an ability," Vytal observed. "Who decides what is transferred?" Frankly, there were things Vytal did not want to share. Much as it went against the tenants of the Mandragora she herself touted, there were reasons some things should remain secret.

"I understand that mental data packets can, in fact, come under a very wide variety of formats, much like file formats in computing. Please excuse this, it's just my experience of alchemizing computer equipment speaking"

It's only now that I realize that Vytal is pleasantly surprised and that pleasurable ichor could be flowing from my brain to hers also. Yet, I knew from my experience with Ashara that this sort of magic requires a good working relationship between the people involved. Now Vytal will be getting higher amounts of ichor-induced pleasure from my brain, and the same in reverse, so long as we can keep it up. she thought, while the flow of ichor-induced pleasure from Vytal Noctura Vytal Noctura 's brain made it so that Janick was simply enthralled. For one of those few times when she had access to someone else with the sort of brainpower that could make the average Force-user blush, she needed to cherish that moment. And, of course, the potential implications of the magic they were casting on each other. It may very well mean that the mental datachannel can be kept open for much longer than normal, and it seemed that both ladies' brains would, under the magical effects, be able to work much more intensively than they normally would. And it could potentially increase their mental bandwidth, as if the magic made both brains work as one. This could mean the possible throughput could be as high as the sum of their individual bandwidths (as opposed to the slowest, which would be the case under normal circumstances, even then, Janick could tell Vytal's normal mental bandwidth is still very fast) and the data packets would still flow painlessly between each other. However, since both brains would then work as one, it didn't violate the Fundamental Inequality. In the past, the contents of this conversation would be included in the data packets infused in people: here she was, having this fruitful conversation with the student of the day.

"As for who decides on the content of a mental data packet when mental data transfer spells are cast, the answer depends on which direction the user is making the transfer. In an upload, the infuser makes the decision. In a download, it's more complex, and whether the transfer will proceed depends on the source's willingness: a common countermeasure magic can result in a corrupt download. Which leads me to other side effects of these spells: when used for infusion, Memory Rub can, unfortunately, create parasitic memories if mishandled, while both alterations and removal of memories make people susceptible to unwanted alterations or forgetting especially when the target has a bad memory"

Computers? Vytal hoped Janick's explanation wouldn't be full of technology jargon. Much as she desired to acquire weapons and shields to defend Dathomir -- in addition to all the knowledge of the many worlds -- she was not a member of the Techno Union for a good reason. Her knowledge of such things had grown over the years, but she wondered if it would be sufficient to relate magick and technology as one might translate between two spoken languages.

Nevertheless, the Nightmother wasn't about to turn around before the effort was made. She would simply do what she expected of any Witch that had come to her for instruction -- apply her intellect, her wits, and her perseverance until the answer presented itself. After all, the creature that loitered never far from her spiritually thought her Willful for a reason.

"A useful tool in the right hands. An insidious weapon in the wrong ones." A soft harrumph followed her summation. "As it is with all things, especially in matters of power and knowledge." That said, Vytal was quite mindful of the dangers involved. Fortunately, there were certain safeguards in place even if somehow Janick's intentions were not as pure as they seemed. Ones the Nightmother would prefer not to invoke given how little their reliability had been tested.

"The exchange is not limited to mere skills. Any memory can be exchanged in this manner," Vytal added to ensure she had not misheard. Actually such a skill could be useful in helping those suffering from amnesia. It would not be quite the same, but any ability to essentially relive a moment might overcome mental blocks -- naturally or unnaturally made. Then, as Janick said, there was the opportunity to learn how the skill functioned to better understand how to counter it. Janick was not the only one aware of this skill; and others may not have the best intentions in mind when they used it.

A small smile spread over her black lips. "And what is it you would enjoy to share this evening?"

"Memory Rub is the first of the two spells; you must have realized by now that obtaining the best results for casting the spell required the user to get a feel for the other party's mind beforehand. Infusion in 3, 2, 1..."

That's how I got started in slicing: it wasn't much of a stretch for me, a regular Memory Rub user, to go from altering memories in people to altering computer memories, she thought. It was readily understandable that Vytal Noctura Vytal Noctura may not have been the most comfortable around computing, just that it was perhaps the analogy that worked best to explain the power to someone else. Now, Janick could feel Vytal's memory was, under the effects of the magic they seemed to be using their brains to cast on each other, a sponge ready to absorb colossal amounts of memories, of which the datapacket of Memory Rub would at most take up a small portion. And then the infusion would begin in earnest, while remaining mindful of the speed at which Vytal's brain actually operated. Hmm... her frontal lobe! So much pleasure at my fingertips, so much that I want to see her use her mind as intensively as feasible... Once the infusion begins, both witches then have the same set of visions flashing in their minds: the process of choosing the datapackets for infusion, the target-related factors that made Memory Rub more effective (if the target has a better memory, infusion will be more effective, while the reverse is true of alterations or forgetting), its bottlenecks, what could cause pain when the infusion, alteration or removal of memories happen. And, of course, the vision of casting the spell itself, with three parts for three distinct uses: the addition of memories, then their alteration and finally, their removal. The latter two needed one to comb one's memory contents first before the spell could be completed.

A small smile turned the corners of Vytal's lips upward. "The thought had occurred to me." Janick had spent a good deal of time probing her mind. Matters of the mind were something the woman of Dathomir knew even if she didn't understand the translation into a computer analog. In fact, one could say the pale Witch knew exactly how to use Memory Rub to alter memories. The Art of Compulsion was a more insidious form of the so-called 'Mind Trick' -- far more powerful, but not without its drawback of requiring physical contact. Janick's power seemed more delicate in nature; more dynamic in its applications. The fundamentals were therefore not so difficult to grasp given her exposure to something similar.

As the other Witch reached out, the alabaster serpent slipped from the Nightmother's shoulders. It stretched out into the infite as it wound its spectral essence about the magic between the two women. While Vytal understood the concept and makeup of the spell, its examination and even defense could not be left to chance. A spiritual guardian oversaw the proceedings though it did not interfere so long as the Dathomiri woman showed no ill effect.

Janick's spell appeared quite efficient at its task. There wasn't much ritual involved, and the effect was felt almost immediately. No doubt the other Witch had a clear mind when it came to the task at hand; Vytal could appreciate that. What was shared was done at a brisk pace. Whether that was the 'top speed' she was capable of would be a matter of discussion. There certainly seemed no reason to hastily see the process concluded, and it was an experienced best examined at length.

"Quite interesting... Have you ever transferred the same thing twice to the same person? Did that increase the retention of what was shared?" Those with a memory that could recall the slightest detail would benefit -- or suffer -- from this the most. That was true regardless of effort to share information between people, however.

To boldly alchemize what no one alchemized before
"I never infused the same thing twice to the same person. As much as Memory Rub-powered tutoring touted guaranteed satisfaction or a free repair, my repeat clients always wanted to have different knowledge infused. I could surmise that repeated infusion would increase retention, however: all it really does is put information into someone for their minds to process. Retrieval and consolidation would likely happen the same as with regular memories"

The Circle's current liabilities are fourfold: old-fashioned accounts payable, unearned revenues, current tax payable and, of course, warranty liability. The Circle does not take out loans, nor does it lease anything, much less issue bonds on capital markets, so there is no need for a "Current portion of long-term debt" on the Circle's balance sheet, she thought, while believing that infusion mostly amounts to an accelerated process of encoding memories and that how the consolidation happens with infused memories would be the same as with regular learning. Janick was conscious of the need to maintain a minimum level of mental energy in Vytal Noctura Vytal Noctura for what is to follow, and hence the infusion at what amounted to a brisk pace. She could tell that Vytal's knowledge of the spell was simply refined in the end. However, even if one could infuse at a sustainable speed, it would still cost the infusee some mental energy. Not necessarily proportional to the infusion speed however. The similarities between Memory Rub and Drain Knowledge were striking to them both.

"And the same would go of downloading as well"

It was quite different to hear a Witch speak of guaranteed satisfaction or material compensation. The business transactional nature which the Circle relied upon to finance its operations was effective; nevertheless, it being a necessity was one of the reasons Vytal had sought to placate Sisters and Brothers that thought the Mandragora should break away from the Confederacy. To date none demanded anything of them -- and Vytal would hardly roll over should they try -- so the benefits continued to outweigh the perceived slights.

"That makes sense," she replied to Janick's observation about downloads being similarly affected.

It would seem things were as Janick said about the transfer requiring time as well. It was interesting to think of it as some form of data stream being sent from one location to another. Vytal was not technical, but she understood the content of data being like a series of tiny objects flowing from one computer to another. This knowledge them which Janick sought to impart behaved similarly, but between two people. And it did take a toll on the body or the mind in question. Even so, Vytal had endured worse and wouldn't wilt here.

"I welcome the opportunity to learn, but I am curious what future do you see between us, Janick?" Live in the present, but not at the expense of the future. Today would end. What would tomorrow bring? Vytal expected the other woman would have a notion in mind. Some form of continued dialog, or merchantile transaction if it would sustain the flow of information.

To boldly alchemize what no one alchemized before
"I have to say that it's just a starting point. What I can say is that future interactions with you would revolve around magic on some level, or alchemy. If other Nightsister or Mandragora members want to learn more about what we discussed today, I can certainly attempt to arrange a time for them"

That being said, Vytal Noctura Vytal Noctura was unlike most other people Janick taught Memory Rub to: she did not download anything from her, but again, Vytal had a grasp of the techniques involved. Parasitic pain was distinguished from induced pain by the ability of the user to control its source. Parasitic pain was not controllable, and good examples of that would be caused by unintended forgetting. Induced pain was usually two-fold: acting too fast on someone or someone wished to infuse/download painful memories. Not that one was worse than the other, but it was something to think about.

"And even for research purposes"

A smile crossed Vytal's dark lips. "Research. I'm certain we can arrange a means of knowledge sharing between our two organizations. There is too much to learn about the galaxy to do so alone." Even if they wouldn't join the Mandragora that did not mean they could not work along side them on certain matters. The Nightmother saw no reason to establish a scholarly fiefdom to lay claim to the title of 'wisest' or 'possesses the greatest library.' She'd not complain if given such prestige, but being too secretive held the Sith back.

And the Nightsisters.

"Is there something I could download from you, Janick? To test this new skill you have 'taught' today." There were plenty of people she'd not be adverse to using this on without their permission -- depending if it could be done without their knowledge. To do so on the woman so generously offering it however, and a continued relationship after this day, would have been foolhardy. Vytal would be gracious enough to let the woman decide what was appropriate. "One should always practice an Art with another that understands it best. They will notice any imperfections in its utilization." Practicing alone without any outside input was a delicate process at best, and reckless at worst. Seeing how Janick was available, now was as good a time as any to try it out.

To boldly alchemize what no one alchemized before
"If you are interested, you could either download the basics of alchemizing electronic and computer equipment or the basics of cybersecurity"

Given what Janick knew, there was just so much Vytal Noctura Vytal Noctura could even think of downloading. But it was best not to make assumptions about what Vytal knew and what she didn't. The most obvious areas would likely have to do with computing on some level: it was clear to her that Vytal still had a lot to learn about electronics and computer equipment, be it on a hardware level or on a software level. Yes, she knew witches were not usually the kind of people to know about computers in-depth and only know about very basic notions in most cases. Just enough to get by in society, but not much else. Yes, she knew that learning is a lot better when there is some supervision. Yes, she knew about the pitfalls of learning and practicing without outside input. Just that the Circle's memory Rub customers seemed to be perhaps overly trusting, seemingly treating Memory Rub as some sort of magic bullet, if a topical one. It was the reason why the Circle sees fit to add a disclaimer section about the Circle not bearing any responsibility for subsequent use of the material so infused or downloaded.

"Alchemizing electronic equipment?" They were objects like any other, but the thought of somehow empowering a computer with magic... They already seemed so complex that doing such a thing seemed practically unworkable. However, perhaps there were ways it could be used. If Janick was offering, Vytal would certainly be interested in learning. Cybersecurity might be a topic of another time; the Mandragora used systems, but the Confederacy was sure to supply enough security for the limited use of such things.

Vytal nodded and sought to reach out as Janick had instructed. This trip was well on its way to proving most enlightening, which was of a surprise to the Nightmother. With little information offered upfront anything could have happened; thankfully, a more beneficial outcome was within reach.

"Your Circle seems to be well established in this Art. I commend you in your effort to improve the world, albeit slowly," and within the confines 'civilized' society allowed. To say nothing of certain parties outright rejecting any of Janick's efforts. Some refused to believe. Others refused to change. It was a very turbulent existence.

To boldly alchemize what no one alchemized before
If Vytal thought alchemizing computer equipment was complex, alchemizing life to make creatures of one's own was even more complex, or at least a different kind of complex. She could always download from me as fast as she could handle it and I would hardly suffer any adverse effects, Janick thought, while Vytal Noctura Vytal Noctura was mentally preparing for the download. In fact, she feels that, even at the fastest bandwidth the guest of the day could attempt downloading the fundamentals of alchemizing computer equipment, the pain Janick could endure would be mostly parasitic. But these were bandwidths not many people would have on hand, and Vytal would do well to remember that. Now, the download started, and then some basic notions of electronics, such as computer components, of how to make ichor mesh with the electronics, and what conditions would be best suited to obtain which property from computer components, would flow from Janick's brain to Vytal's. For example, it was recommended to alchemize wi-fi devices, such as HoloNet transceivers or routers, to get alchemical effects related to data. To be sure, it was very fast, and in Vytal's eagerness, it almost seemed that she let her brain absorb knowledge as fast as it could.

"Just don't go around thinking you can download this fast from everyone: downloading from a normal person at that speed would cause intense headaches"

Vytal chuckled at Janick's warning. "I don't think you need to worry about that. Like any 'spell,' I plan to get well acquainted with this ability before using it freely." The woman of Dathomir smiled for a moment. "I can't have people turning this against me, after all." One must be prepared; if you form a connection with someone -- the right someone -- it might be less of a way-one transfer than you would expect. There were too many secrets to keep for that.

As for Janick, well, the Nightmother had been monitoring the pulse of the situation as it were. More to the point, however, the woman was too intellectual to use the circumstances as an excuse to probe her mind. Could the secrets be of use? Was the risk worth it? And the fallout for such an enterprising Coven? Yes, Vytal felt in this scenario there was a certain decorum in place to maintain their relationship.
